Demo stuck on "Loading Sounds"

hello
Since the game is not yet available in Canada (and GamersGate/PayPal doesn't like any of my credit cards ) I wanted to play with the demo to see how it will run

Unfortunately it doesn't - The game gets stuck on the load screen saying "Loading Sounds..." and CPU usage goes to 0

there is no error messages coming up (I left it running like this for over 30 minutes at one time) and the logs say nothing of use
setup.log says
...
Setup[eventmanager.cpp:105]: Events loaded events\TimeOfTroubles.txt' #8
Setup[eventmanager.cpp:105]: Events loaded events\Westernisation.txt' #3
[EOF]

system.log says it had some errors loading cursors ? but it had no problem with creating the graphic device

any help would be appreciated

spec:
dual core 6600, 2GB ram nVidia 7900 256MB ram - dual monitors (is this a problem?) driver version 9371

tried: set using the settings file provided in the forum, disabling second monitor, running in a window, change refresh and resolution to match desktop

one good thing is it does work on my laptop so i'll play there - but it would be nicer on here

thanks

Possibly your sound card driver needs updating? Or conceivably a corrupt download or installation. I can't think of any other good reason why the game would freeze on loading sounds.

hmm... I re downloaded the demo and re-installed it - still same problem
updated my realtek drivers but no help there either

is there any way to get more debugging info into the logs as the demo loads up?
- at least if it crashed I can try to figure out whats causing it - when it just sits there its a bit unsettling ....
