Map Editing Tool, general modding...

The map is indeed readily accessible and changable, although such changes require coordination between many files, and a lot of information.

Every province has xy coords for it's city, port, and text size/orrientation.

Add that to the fact that you have ~2000 province, and I am practically certain that there exists in-house map editing tools for the map over at paradox, especially since EU3 will be their new codebase for the next generation of games.

So what is the deal here? Will the devs give us those tools? I don't particularly care if they are unpolished, so long as a txt file explains everything that is not obvious and what to expect.

Also of note is the use of DDS gfx files. These are made to be directly usable by the gfx card as textures, which makes it harder to mod since we weren't given the source TGAs that are available for loadscreens for example.

The actual engine seems completely moddable as every dialog is dynamically built from textfiles. Perfect!

DDS files are accessible through Photoshop 8.0, as well as utility converters

I'm using v8 (CS), and had to get a DDS plugin. Even then, the plugin doesn't do alpha channels.

Any better plugin you might have?
