Duke --> King prestige from Counts?

The FAQ says:

Quote:
12) When you upgrade yourself from duke to king, it's likely that your count vassals liege remains your original duke title (which you hold too when you become king). So don't give your original duke title away, unless you are giving it to your last count vassal or you have no counts as vassals at all. This is corrected when your first king dies and his heir succeeds.

So, as a 16 year-old, newly crowned King of Bohemia (just created the title...), it would appear that I do not receive the prestige from having 4-5 counts as vassals, and so only receive +.4 prestige per month for being king (and not having any dukes as vassals as I hold all titles) I did save and reload.

So, according to the FAQ quoted above, does this mean I'll have to wait for my 16 year old king to die, and his heir to inherit before I receive the prestige from my count vassals?

No, as a king, you only receive extra prestige from having dukes as vassals. You don't get extra prestige from counts.
But in the case of Bohemia, if you have no other provinces outside your country, you can just grant the title of Duke of Moravia first and then Bohemia. That way the two provinces of Moravia remain under a different duke.

im sure what the faq was trying to say was that if you want your former count vassals to stay under your direct rule (for what reason i couldn't guess, you'd have to keep your ducal title after becoming king.

Fortunately that isn't the case though, right? Pass on your ducal title for the prestige boost.

What the FAQ is trying to say is this.

You start as, f.e., the duke of Bohemia and you start conquering all kinds of counties until you have say 20 counties as vassals plus some more duke titles. If you then make yourself king and give away, as your first new created duke-vassal, the duke title of Bohemia to someone. All those 20 counts will then become the vassal of the new duke of Bohemia. So it is best to give away your first aqcuired duke-title the last when you become king.

I have a hopefully related question. Can I give a title, say Duke, to a vassal who is already a count? When I hit the Grant Title button the only names I see are my courtiers. I'm playing 1.05 as Denmark by the way. My present collection of courtiers are a real truckload of turkeys except ones I need to keep as Chancellor and such.
Thanks.

Select the county, then click 'grant title' from the county screen.

BTW, you can only grant titles to your direct vassals and current courtiers. So you can't dukify a Count who's technically a vassal of one of your Dukes.

But you can double "dukify" a current duke.
