EUII OscAAR Redux III - Nominations for Best Completed AAR, July - Dec. 2004
The Very Old - Part II
I have to admit, I was a little worried that the first poll for Ye Olde OscAARs was less followed and voted upon than the more recent works being looked at in CK and Vickie. But I think a good deal of that has to do with that very thing - the more recent work is more in the memory and thus more easily recognized and appreciated. However, one of the prime reasons for doing these contests is to try our best to look back at worthy work of the forum and detail as best we can the best work done during each period. With that thought in mind, I hope the members try as much as they can to look at the eligable AARs and nominate those that stand out. At least in that phase, I think we have been mostly successful. Still - I'd love to see more activity in this nominating thread if possible. These good folks certainly deserve the attention, I know that much. And with that said, let us now take a look at the period between July of 2004 and December 2004. No less rich than the previous period but seeing fewer AARs finished, hopefully those that stand out are perhaps easier to spot. And as has been the case, please feel free to let me know if an error was made with inclusion/exclusion of what I term eligable. As in the past, I went through every work during the period and tried to list it as finished if it was actually finished, died from computer error and effort was made to conclude the work or if it was abandoned but finished up later. Bring it to my attention and I will take another look. The nominations round will last until October 31st. At such time, I will tabulate the votes and choose the top five AARs recieving nominations. Each of you has one voice to either nominate or second, third, etc. someone else's nomination. And as I have suggested before, I hope that you appreciate this look back at earlier work and enjoy it now as much as the members did at the time of writing. Each and every one was given much love from the writer and I think they should have the very same from us as the reader and member of AARland. Let's show them our support. The list of eligable works will follow in the next post. Happy reading.

List of eligable AARs: Crescent over Ishpania, a Granadan AAR by Arilou A Distant Mirror by CatKnight Kongo - breaking the isolation - a mini-AAR by doktarr The Other Big White Blob: a Mombasa AAR by Farquharson The morning star of Alhambra by Fodoron God Save the CzAAR: Novgorod as Russia by Judas Maccabeus A Spanish Shopping Spree by jwolf Meet the Habsburgs by Lord J. Roxton Wilhem Wonker and the Chocolate Factory by Lord J. Roxton The Double Cross and the Golden Bull: A Kingdom of Hungary AAR by Machiavellian The Walls of the City - Snapshots from Constantinople by merrick The Moorish Rescue - Granada AAR by The Impaler Fields Of Orange by Van Engel Throne of Heaven - the Story thread by Wyvern (Multi-Player) The EMPIRE STRIKES BACK by Yippeeyippeeyai I Smell a Longshot: A Cologne AAR by zacharym87 * * * You may use your voice to either nominate one of the above, or second, third, etc. someone else's nomination. The top five AARs will move on the OscAAR round (depending on participation in the nominating round - the more the better.) Notes: 1. You do not need to read the entire AAR in order to nominate it. Reading helps to be sure, but a snippet is enough to know if it's worthy. The nominating process should weed out the contenders from the pretenders. 2. Though it is natural to nominate work by people that still inhabit the forum, I'd like to make sure that the older works by people no longer here still get attention. In the end, I hope these awards to be a look at the best work of the period and that means considering all of them. 3. As mentioned, there are a large number of AARs listed here. The more discussion of these works the better. In the past we have seen stnylan and others do smal mini-reviews. Feel free to do the same if you have time. But mostly, let us know why you nominated the work. Now let the nominations begin...

One nomination so far. We have until the end of the month, but I hope we see just a bit more activity in this thread. Any more nominations?

The Double Cross and the Golden Bull: A Kingdom of Hungary AAR by Machiavellian
This is my choice, and it is a wonderful story by Machiavellian that surely deserves such a nod....

That is a good one, Amric, to be sure!
I myself would like to nominate jwolf's A Spanish Shopping Spree. Man was it creative and I had much fun trying to comment in the same style. It's certainly a keeper!

We are just over half way through the month with only three nominations. I know there is enough work above to get us five if not more. Take a look at each, even if just the first few posts, and nominate the one you think stands up the best.
And just to note - we only have 11 votes so far in this month's current OscAAR poll. Don't forget to cast your vote in the stickied thread above.

Well I'd like to nominate Arilou's AAR "Crecent over Ishpania". I read Machiavellan's Dubble Cross and found it very interesting, but since it has already been nominated to the list, I wanted to make sure that the brilliant Grenada AAR was also added! I find the way Arilou tells the story, as if you sit by a fire some late night without any modern stuff and to make time go the old man with a huge beard tells you a story of ancient times. something that has been passed down many generations. It all felt so gemütlich! So I felt I just had to cast my vote on Arilou. I've only read the first three chapters (which was enough for me to decide) so now I'm off to read some more!

There is just about a week left to fill out the nominations. We have four already and I can think of a few other names from the list that would be as equally worthy of standing with the current four.
Any more nominations? Now is the time to do it before it is too late.
