An Unused Map Zoom Out Level

On several occasions while playing Victoria (and HOI2 sometimes, for that matter) I manage to stumble upon a zoom out level higher than the usual. I must remember to take a screenshot next time it happens, but it is quite rare. To be specific, it occurs precisely once every blue moon.

Anyway, I like this higher zoom out, cause it really lets you see a more "global" picture. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know how I can make this unsed zoom level available all the time?

I have done it quite a few times, but alas, it was purely accidental.

I've never done this but I have always wished Vicky had one further zoom out level.

Aye, but it does! Question is, why did Paradox disable it?

An additional zoom out level would be nice indeed!

I wonder if this futher zoom out level could be enabled? It would be quite useful. It's probably not changeable by modding though or someone would have already pointed it out.

Yes, it is curious. I have no idea why it has been disabled in the first place. IMHO, the map looks gorgeous when viewed at this "verboten" zoom level. If it happens to me tonight, I will try to remember to take a screenshot and find some free web host to post the pic.

You mean this level:

I got it one time and took that screenie... never got it back.
It was in '1280' mode but since then I only have 3 zoom levels in that resolution...
That is indeed a nice view though.

Yup, that'd the one! Tis a nice view indeed. Evidently there is code for it, but for some reason, it has been masked. Wonder if anyone (official Paradox or otherwise) could let those who want this extra zoom know how to enable it.

I believe that happens when the resolution of the game is changed under
Start>All Programs>Strategy First>Victoria>Configuration.

The top bar becomes smaller and the left bar gets smaller. Thats the case with all higher resolutions.

A 1280x1024 Resolution looks a lot like that, but I cannot remember if the map changes.

Nope, that's not what's happening. I always play at 1280x1024. What's happening here is, rarely, players are getting access to higher zoom level than is intended. See the screenshot above and compare that with what you see on your screen set at 1280x1024 when at the max zoom level. The difference should be apparent. Why this higher zoom out level is not intended for players is beyond me, as I think it is quite "snazzy", and let's the player get, as I said before, a more "global picture".

Yup, you're right about the zooming. I cannot zoon that far out, and never have. Maybe its a simple glitch that some players get.

Don't you think this view could be handy? It pretty much lets you see the whole of any one continent on the screen at once! Very good to get a "big picture" view of the global political situation. I (as it seems others do too) would like to figure out how to get this zoom mode available in the game permanent-like, not just as a random hiccup.

My thoughts exactly!

Please, Paradox, give this treasure to us!

Have you noticed any problems with this "big picture" zoom? Does the game get much slower due to more updating? That's the only reason to disable this zoom level I can think of.

Hmm, I have not experienced any problems... since this thread was started I was able to get this zoom level a couple of more times, but I fail to recognize a pattern of when it becomes available...

I also find it 'funny' that there has not been any comment in this thread by any of the 'big guys'...
