United States - A Wolf in Disguise

This AAR will be from a historical perspective from a 3rd party Author in the future. The style will be based on a book by I believe Donald Sommerville who wrote "World War II - Day by Day". I liked the style of that book and you will pickup on it rather quickly. The difference here is this will be only from a United States point of view with limited day by day accounts from the rest of the world.

I also forwarn you that I have only played this game for about 1 month and have only played upto about 1943 and never saw any combat. So while we go on this journey you will also witness a person learning the finer details of war, diplomacy, and economic policy. It may end up that I lose a few battles from my lack of preparation and thus will provide for some entertainement.

I will not provide much in the way of pictures except for major operations, but should have plenty of updates once the fighting starts.

Below is my first installment of updates.

Jan 10th 1920 - Treaty of Versailles is ratified by the League of Nations.

Oct 24-29 1929 - United States Stock Exchange crashes and taking with it savings of millions of Americans. The shockwaves can be felt far away as the world economy moves into depression.

Summer 1932 - Bolstered by Adolph Hitlers and his National Socialist regime in Germany. The National Socialist Party of America makes moves to gain grounds in senatorial seats and a shot at the presidency. Their propaganda a govt for the people and the rights of the American people to be strong grabs the attention of a few people.The difference between the National Socialists in the United States and their Nazi brothers in Germany is the lack of a racial scapegoat. The Untited States being a hodge podge of nationalities would make it impossible to run on a single race superiority platform. Thus they tout the American Race platform as anybody outside the borders are sub humans worthy of colonization, including Nazi's, for the betterment of the people. This hits home hard with people digusted by the failures of promises and hopes made in the 1920s wanting somebody to blame.

Nov 1932 - A depression ridden US public votes into office FDR who immediately sets forth his "New Deal" proposal. the victory is rather bitter sweet as his power will be contained somewhat by a strong showing by the National Socialist party taking 65 seats in the house, Republicans took 152 seats in the house and Democrats took a slim majority with 218. In the senate the final totals ended up being 8 National Socialists, 40 republicans, and 52 Democrats.

1933 - FDR's new deal is hamstringed but passes with concessions made to the Republican and National Socialists. FDR upset at his proposal being marginalized goes into hiding in disgust.

1934 - The new deal fails to live upto its name. With unemployment nearing 30% the house elections made things worse. In the house elections the national socialists based on a strong national pride campaign capture 174 seats in the house in a landslide victory, leaving the republicans with 109 and the democrats 152. Senatorial races the national socilialists make take it in a landslide, they capture 20 of 30 seats up for grabs. This leave the final tally for 1934 at 28 national Socialist, 34 Democrat, and 38 Republican. The worst hit in this election cycle are the Democrats who are seen as weak on just about everything including the ability to provide for the people.

1935 - With new found political capital a leader for the national socialist emerges for a presidential run named John McCormick. A fiery decendent of Irish immigrants he has the stature to command audiences and sway voters. The national Socialists are in for a fight with the Democrats for pushing the govt in their direction. The year ends with a walkout by the national socialists who blame the democrats as obstructionists of the will of the people. The depression worsens with unemployment reaching into the low 30s.

1936 - Berlin, Germany - The nazi regime showcases their economic rebound while hosting the Olympics. American Jesse Owens wins multiple Gold medals which infuriates Hitler. The NSPA embraces the win as a sign of American superiority and asks why the American people havent seen the economic rebound the lesser people Germany have seen?

Nov 1936 - FDR loses in a landslide to John McCormick for presidency. In the process the NSPA captures a resound majority in the house on a platform promising a return to glory through a strong state run industry. the final tally in the house is 303 for the National Socialists, 45 for the Republicans, and 87 for the Democrats. The house is equally as brutal on the two standing parties. The national Socialists capture 22 of 32 seats up for re-election bringing their total to 50 in the senate with republicans at 20 and democrats 30.

1937 - McCormick wastes no time pushing legislation through to nationalize the oil, coal, steel, energy, banking, and parts of the manufacturing industries. The democrats and republicans fail to stop the measures as some of their own walkout in protest. These programs leave the property under the control of private industry but force them to adhere to strict govt control. Govt programs are erected to build 250 factory centers around the country dubbed as the "New American Dream", McCormick proclaims this is the indstrial might the American people will ride on their way to history. Little did the population know that FDR had a similar plan that was already in the works and had already started to provide relief to the economy by late 1936.

Surprisingly one of the first acts as President it is to scrap older warships and anything smaller than a battleship or carrier. McCormick passes this off as dropping the deadweight of liberalism in America, saying our fighting men will have the finest equipment our hardwork can buy for them when traveling the seas. He sets out to update designs in the light cruiser, carrier, and destroyer class of warships. He has a plan to use the carriers as the basis for the fleet with a screen of smaller ships to stop submarine attacks and close ranged combat.

FEB 28TH 1937 - Production Planning - The navy submits and approves plans to lay keels for 10 Class IV carriers. These will be laid two at a time and launched as sister ships. Further orders are expected once industrial capacity is freed up from domestic projects.

Mar 16th 1937 - Production Planning - The Navy submits and approves the last 5 keels bring the total to 15.

Aug 1937 - Industrial Output is increased by the opening of 25 new complexes that will employ thousands of hardup workers. The effect is nearly immediate as the economy grows.

Oct 12-13th 1938 - The first Class IV Carrier is commisioned and called the USS Enterprise. The timing couldnt be more perfect for the National Socialists with a mid term election coming up. Her sister ship was delayed by just a day and launched on the 13th of October, named the USS Wasp.
It is believed these new classes of carriers will become the mainstay of the battle armadas of the United States.

Interestingly enough central planning did not order aircraft to go with these ships and thus are little more than floating symbols of power. Training will be conducted on land for these ships.

Oct 28th 1938 - Right before the election John McCormick steams into Norfolk on the newest Carrier named Hornet with a cover of aircraft. The spectators go wild with pride.

Nov 1938 - The election is a landslide victory for the National Socialists as their economic promises have started coming true. With unemployment dropping an amazing 14% in the 2 years since they have taken control and recent patriotic events as the 3 carrier launchings the house ends up in total control by the NSPA. They capture an unbelievable 361 seats in the house
and bring their totals to 63 in the senate.

Feburary 1939 - Politics - With new found power the NSPA puts forwards bills that will allow for the suspension of the bill of rights under circumstances such as war or emergency. It passes without issue and is signed into law on Feb 21st.

April 1939 - Politics - An attempt on John McCormicks life by a left socialist group prompts the president to suspend the 2nd amendment right to bear arms. Lawsuits are filed by the ACLU which prompts investigations by the FBI with raids on their offices. The house and senate agree to terms on a law limiting ideologies that do not conform with the national interest
determined by sub committees populated with NSAP members.

May 1939 - Politics - In an attempt to head off a Supreme Court battle over the suspension law. The House and Senate agree to pass a law that will allow for the legislative and executive branches to superceed the judiscial branch if a strong majority is reached on the proposals. They then promptly vote for suspending 2nd amendment rights with a super majority. A state run
radio and newspaper are erected.

June 5th 1939 - Far East - Japan declares war on the Soviet Union and hostilities commence immediately.

June 16th 1939 - Home Front - With the invasion of the Soviet Union by the Japanese, Europe on the verge of war, the congress votes to get the nation ready for possible hostilities and nationalizes more industry for central planning. This brings the total IC under the control of the NSAP to 346.

July 1st 1939 - Politics - With huge disapproval among the social left in the media the senate and house vote to suspend the 1st Amendment right of freedom of the press with a super majority and move to have the FBI investigate any activity deemed harful to the country. A review committe is formed to view all editorials and stories and censor anything they deem harmful.

The population seems for the most part indifferent to the changes as they have for the first time in nearly a decade a bright outlook on the future as the economy keeps rolling in double digit exapansions and unemployment has almost reached 15% of the country.

Sept 2nd 1939 - Central Europe - Germany declares war on Poland and immediately invades.

Sept 30th 1939 - Central Europe - With hostilities dwindling between German and Polish forces, Germany officially annex's Poland.

Nov 1939 - Politics - A series of laws are passed which place penalties on drug running and outlawing many drugs. The army and navy are given duties to stop the flow of narcotics into the country. Laws are also passed effectly killing the free press in the United States. The FBI is being used to subvert the opposing parties through trials that slander the opponents.

The US surpreme court ruled the laws allowing the suspension of laws under times of war or emergencies is lawful under certain circumstances but didnt warrant the current situation an emergency and issued orders to override the current situation. The FBI issues investigations into the Us Surpreme Court judges backgrounds and financial situations.

Dec 1939 - Home Front - The NSAP erects several govt programs to get people into employment. These programs are mundane work but pay well. Most of it is cival service or working in govt run industry. But it works to continue to drop the unemployment rate.

Jan 1st 1940 - Production - The final in the series of govt run industrial complexes come online and the base IC is raised to 407 by the 12th of the month with useable IC at 432.

Jan 21-28th 1940 - Planning - The Army and Navy meet to determine long term rearmament plans. Army, Fleet, and Air Armada sizes are determined with a generalized plan for priority production runs.

Feb 1st 1940 - Politics - The FBI issues arrest warrants for all the justices on the Supreme Court for acts of fraud and swindling. A citizen review board is setup to but them on trial. The board is filled with NSAP members. In the absensne of the highest court in the land a Federal review committee is setup to handle all complaints of constitutionality. The board is
filled with NSAP members and starts taking cases for review immediately. The first case is the ACLU grievance on suspension of constitutional rights. It is overturned and the law is placed back into order.

Feb 6th 1940 - Planning - The Navy moves quickly on their proposal to rearm and submits and approves a proposal to lay 20 Light cruiser keels, 10 at a time, and 40 Destroyer keels 10 at a time. The expected production run is going to be about 350 days and will leave the navy with 4 surface fleets consisting of 5 Light Cruisers, 10 destroyers and 5 carriers each. From there they will determine building quota's based on performance.

Feb 8th 1940 - Politics - The house and senate move quickly to strip the Surpreme Court of its powers due to the ethical nature of the current crop of justices.

Feb 10th 1940 - Planning - The Army submits and approves production for 20 Fighter Wings and 10 CAS Wings.

Mar 10th 1940 - Planning - The Army issues orders to raise 200 infantry divisions over the next 2 years.

May 2nd 1940 - Europe - Germany Declares war on Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxemborg.

May 8th 1940 - Europe - Germany Annexes Luxemborg

June 10th 1940 - Europe - Soviet union declares war on Latvia

June 11th 1940 - Europe - Soviet Union Declares war on Lithuania

july 12th 1940 - Far East - The Soviets Annex Manchukuo

July 13th 1940 - Politics - The Trial concerning the US Supreme Court judges gets underway. The presiding judges are all NSAP Party members.

July 20th 1940 - Europe - France Falls to the Germans and a puppet state is erected by the Nazi's called Vichy France. Free France is exiled to England. Latvia is annexed by the Soviets.

August 15th 1940 - Europe - The Soviet Union Annex's Estonia

August 25th 1940 - Europe - The Soviet Union annex's Lithuania

October 19th 1940 - Europe - Italy declares war on Greece

October 20th 1940 - Planning - The final orders are issued for the armed forces. When all is complete by Sept of 1942 the United States armed forces will have gone through a revolutionary facelift. It will consist of 200 infantry, 20 armored, 35 Mechanized, 20 Fighter, 10 Close air support, 15 Carriers with CAG, 40 Destroyers, 10 battleships, 20 Light Cruisers.

Nov 1940 - Politics - The elections come and go without much incident. Through the use of the FBI to investigate the opposition thus keeping them out of the elections the NSAP sweeps the elections in all state, local, and federal elections.

It is now considered a defacto dictatorship. Freedoms of the press, speech, expression, arms, and the 4th amendment. There are rumblings of legislation to be passed suspending state rights, disbanding state govt and bringing it all under the control of the central govt. The Supreme court trial fades into memory as they dont convict anybody but have marginalized and
erased the power of the judicial branch.

March 2nd 1941 - Europe - Germany Declares war on Yugoslavia

March 3rd 1941 - Europe - Bulgaria declares war on Yugoslavia

May 9th 1941 - Europe - Bulgaria has annexed Greece

May 21st 1941 - Europe - Germany has Annexed Yugoslavia

June 22nd 1941 - Europe - In the Early morning hours Operation Barbarossa commences with over 3 million German troops pouring over the Soviet border.

July 3rd 1941 - South America - In a surprise Peru declared war on Ecuador and a land invasion commenced shortly there after.

Aug 1st 1941 - Politics - The United States arms its southern border to stop the illicit drug trade that has brewed since the outlawing of drugs. An entire US fleet is moved to base in Miami to interdict any boat traffic while the 43rd Combined Arms Shock Army, 3rd Combined Shock Army, 1st Mechanized, 1st Calvary, and the US 1st Corps are sent to the border. With plenty
of air support to stop the trade.

December 1st 1941 - Politics - In a vigerous speech John McCormick warns the leaders of Mexico to close their border to drug traffickers. He also warns central and South America to clean up their act.

Ok the united States is on the brink of war. I will end this post with a little info and player recollection.

I found playing a national socialist upto this point rather interesting. The economy appears to be a bit oppressed like it should under a centrally planned govt. This caused me on many occasions to have to trade for rare materials, metal, and energy. It really got me into a trading mode in the 30s using my excess supply as cash. Once my factories were up and running
it is unbelievable the amount of points I have to throw at a problem. I believe right now without being in a war my base IC is about 420 with a 468 use rate. My tech tree is heavy into CAS doctrine, Mobility ground, and carrier task forces. My plan is to use mechanized and armor divisions to punch a hole and infantry to plug that hole with CAS to disrupt and kill enemy formations, while gaining total air superiority with my fighters.

Through this AAR you will see unit designations.

These are

Fleet - 4-5 Carriers, 5 CLs, 10 Destroyers, any BBs left over from the purges.
Transport Fleet = 10 Transports

Ground
Recon = 1-2 Infantry Divisions
Light Armor = 3-4 Mech Divisions + 1-2 Armor
Mech = 10 Mech Divisons
Combined Arms Shock = 4 Armored + 6 Mech
Armored = 5 Armored
Heavy Armor = 5 Armored + heavy Brigades
Army\Corps = 10 infantry Divisions
Light Infantry = 3-5 Infantry Divisions

Air
Fighter Wing = 4 Fighters
Close Air Support = 4 CAS
Bomber = Strategic Bombers
Tactical = Tactical Air

I hope you guys have as much fun reading this as I am making it.

At this point Mexico was more or less a training excercise for me. This is the first combat I have seen in this game ever. I think after Mexico I will turn my attention to the Pacific or Asia. Think I will leave Canada alone as I built two big bases on Attu and Kiska to move troops to Asia or interdict naval traffic.

April 10th - Mexico - Tampico- The US 3rd Combined Shock meets up with the same forces they routed in Monterrey on the 7th of April. April 11th - Mexico - Tampico- The Mexican airforce shows up to challenge the air superiority of the United States. In a fight they manage to scare off an inflict some casualties on US the dive bombers. This is the first time they have challenged for the skies.

April 13th - Mexico - Tampico - The 3rd Shock Army officially captures this province and begins making preparations for a small rest.

April 15th - Pacific Ocean - Off the coast of Mexico the Battle of Bandera's, the 4th Fleet meets up with a couple of light cruisers and quickly dispatches when from range using aircraft.

Mexicali - The 12th Light Infantry caputures the province without firing a single shot. They will camp for the next two days and begin their movement down the baja.

April 16th - Mexico - Puebla- The 3rd Combined Arms ran into stiff resistence from 3 divisions and fought a pitched battle through the entire day. Finally the Mexicans made a fighting retreat around 11:00 PM under the cover of darkness. American casualties were light.

April 20th - Mexico - La Paz - The 12th Light Infantry runs into a light fighting before the mexicans surrender. The Baja is now in American control.

Mr. President, I thought you would be overjoyed at the prospect of the idea of an Imperial USA catching on with the Paradox community.

First the Paradox forums, then the world.

Anyway, excellent AAR so far.

April 22nd 1941 - Meixco - Hermosillo - The meixcans retreating north ran into elements of the 103rd Light Infantry. The battle didnt last long as the Mexicans didnt have much fight left in them. They surrendered after a 2 hour battle.

April 26th - Mexico - Mexico City province - The battle for the capital starts with a coordinated attack by the 1st mech from the north and the 3rd combined shock from the east. The battle rages all day with no clear victor. The skies are filled with fighters from both countries in what proves to be the most intense fighting to date. Casualties are heavy on the Mexican side with moderate on the Americans.

Acapualco - The 48th Light Armored runs into fierce fighting in this province eventually beats counrterattack after counterattack back. At the same time the Mexican fleet came out of port to challenge the 4th Fleet but were sunk rather easily.

April 27th - May 5th - Mexico City - Major fighting is reported through the entire week as the 3rd Combined Shock pushes forward from the east while the 1st Mechanized moves from the north. There is light to moderate casualties taken by the Americans while the Mexicans take a heavy toll. Eventually the fighting moved to the city where it was more evenly matched. But the overwhelming force brought by the Americans eventually pushes the remaining Mexican forces to the South and they capture the capital.

Acapualco - The 48th Light Armored runs into heavy fighting as they continue to push across this province.

May 7th - 20th The 48th Light Armor has a running battle as it pushes the mexican forces east. The week long fighting is starting to take its toll on the equipment and men. Exhuastion is starting to set in as they chase the mexicans.

As of the 20th Mexican forces have been pushed into the two most Eastern provinces.

In the North there is occasional fighting when the 103rd Light Infantry and the 1st Cav conduct mopup duties. the 12th Light captures La Paz during this time, putting the Baja under American control.

What I'd like to see in a Fascist USA AAR is them having a shitty campaign against the Mexicans which they win only by numbers.

Trivial details I say. We must expand by any means necessary. Once you are in power, Mr. President, you can do as you wish and crush those evil ideologies once and for all.

Certainly you understand the politiking of this matter.

Maintank, could you give us some more specifics as to your armies in Mexico, and in general?

For example, you have many different types of corps: like a "recon" corps and a "Light Infantry" corps. Could you explain the specifics of their organizations? As well as larger formations like your "Shock" armies.

Great so far!

I have that info in the first post, but I will repost here.

Ground
Recon = 1-2 Infantry Divisions
Light Armor = 3-4 Mech Divisions + 1-2 Armor
Mech = 10 Mech Divisons
Combined Arms Shock = 4 Armored + 6 Mech
Armored = 5 Armored
Heavy Armor = 5 Armored + heavy Brigades
Army\Corps = 10 infantry Divisions
Light Infantry = 3-5 Infantry Divisions

Air
Fighter Wing = 4 Fighters
Close Air Support = 4 CAS
Bomber = Strategic Bombers
Tactical = Tactical Air

These may change over the course of the AAR
