It is now 1940

January 7th 1940

A cordon of U-boats is set up running across from South America to Africa. This cordon sinks a few British and Dutch convoys sprinkled all through the period. The level of sinkings is sufficiently modest that I have not bother to collate them all as it does not seem necessary. My 7 spies (later on) in the Netherlands territory report that they have no land units to supply (can this be true?) so this suggests the Dutch convoy must be resources from Paramaribo to Batavia. This is probably irrelevant to them anyway but does result in a few convoys going down.

I cannot estimate the impact of this level of losses on the UK’s convoy stocks so there is probably little point in counting them. It becomes apparent after a while that there are large numbers of escorts available for these convoys and I get many occurrences of “convoy to heavily protected”

A survey of the Cap Verde Islands effectively confirms the Portuguese situation with no supplies being transferred to the island.

A foray into the Mediterranean discovers the same situation for Malta. Sooner or later the Italians will be able to take it and this may then encourage them to look a little further a field. This is not due to my anti convoy action but is presumably due to Italian success in North Africa.

Having explored the North Atlantic looking for British presence I have discovered that Iceland and Newfoundland are undefended. I have no desire for an allied base so close so I have ventured out to retake Iceland. I will not take Newfoundland at this time as it is convenient if it stays British and inactive. I do not want to get into any overseas entanglements and shall withdraw immediately once Iceland has been captured.

The locals try to interfere with the landing but have forgotten to bring enough ships with them. The landing continues regardless.

Another attempted intervention results in the Canadians actually losing ships. My division is now ashore and ready to occupy the whole island.

February 13th 1940

An important technology for the summer offensive has been researched. I have been running a major supplies surplus for some time as production wound down through the autumn. This development puts this in reverse gear as the entire army rapidly upgrades. With my settings this does not take very long at all.

I now have a two level rocket site. There is still some time to go before it is level 4 and I can efficiently start the rocket research. There is no hurry for this as my real objective is just jet aircraft. I need to collect several secret weapon inventions for this so it is not a good idea to leave it too long but later in 1940 will be fine. The rocket research should then run through at a fantastic rate.

No change in oil level at the Cap Verde Islands but 3 divisions have disappeared. All good as far as I am concerned. I have no intention of taking it when depleted. It can stay as a tempting garrison point for anyone who wants to land there. Remember – no overseas entanglements.

Current technological research. The Kampfgruppe doctrine will bring major improvements in combat events, 1943 HQs and improved HQ supply bonuses (minor). Improved medium tank will give something like a 10% improvement in armoured firepower. This only represents something like a 3% improvement in applied firepower allowing for both other units and the expected higher engagement levels of my armoured divisions. Not totally insignificant but also clearly not excessively important.

May I be Chief of Research? Sounds exciting.

I would love to help you, Mein Fuhrer...

And I apologize, I want to start reading this, I like the screens though.

This is representative of a whole stack of factories completing. This will be covered by the full report of national situation in early May.

I am now heavily spying on a significant number of countries. This is a useless doctrine but stealing it from China means it is off the list for stealing from other countries (Soviets).

The current intelligence report says it all. I’m not sure how much I believe it but my suspicions are that this is an underestimate, especially the air force. They seem to be behind me in direct combat related research for this year. I already have deep logistics and have be flying improved fighters for what seems like forever.

The Portuguese come to take revenge for their convoys and inflict some pain on the U-boats. Elsewhere I am getting my own back on yet another French fleet. Where do they get them all from.

March 6th 1940

The next day the main Kriegsmarine carrier fleet turns up and punishes the Portuguese properly.

I'd like to know where am I at the moment. And what am I doing? Still sitting idle with the 3rd Fallschirmjägers in London? My exp, if there is any, would also be nice to see. Battle record contains two (2) battles this far, right?

Another useless doctrine but this takes us 1 more blueprint closer to something useful. There is little else to spend the money on so this is going to keep up for a long time. With only one country in my alliance I need to boost research somehow.

And another useless doctrine. We are fair raking them in now.

For some reason this ends the narrative until the review in early may. Due to losses from enemy ships and the withdrawal of the surface fleet I have withdrawn all u-boats as well. This has left all secondary fronts inactive except for some naval bombers. These are covering the Azores area and the Gulf of Morocco. The AAR will now continue with some review material.

May 1st 1940

Accumulated naval losses since the last report are rather low and include rather too many German units. This list looks far more balanced that what we have been seeing before. I shall now withdraw until naval intervention in the Russian war has become irrelevant. Due to the very high Soviet force levels I am quite keen on being able to achieve a –65% shore bombardment modifier.

Sure thing, welcome to the team. I'm afraid the position may be a bit of a figure head position a this stage but your it.

Time has flashed by and you are now in Konigsburg in the east with 95% of everything else.

Master, your wisdom has shone on me so brightly that my brains have melted, which makes me unable to understand the latter part of that sentence of yours.

EDIT: Oh, right. Damn I'm stupid sometimes :eek:o

Why oh why are my idiot scientists researching Hunter-Killer group doctrine! As if the Soviet Union will ever even use ships. Obviously a more thorough purge of the scientific community is needed.

congratulations, Kanitatlan, on 50,000 views! ! :D

My guess would be too much spying. They have stolen the blueprints and are researching it because it is so much easier than researching something useful. I must arrange for some more useless blueprints to be left out for the spies. Unfortunately I will have to arrange for this in another country sees there are no Soviet spies in Germany (let me get my reply in first "No there aren't")

Herr Kanitatlan:

I have been presented with the opportunity to engage in an "exchange" of sorts. I will be visiting our fascist brothers in Italy for about a fortnight. Although I do not expect to learn anything useful regarding our Luftwaffe or their airforce, I may be able to determine some of their weaknesses so that they can be easily overcome when the time is right. I shall report in when I return. Until then, Long Live the Reich!
