hmmm.....i can't seem to attack anyone

hello all,

i am meticulously making my way through my first ever doomsday campaign (germany '36). it is now january '38 and i've not made war with anyone. just been building up my forces and researching techs. and a little spying here and there.

well last night after saving my game i decided to attack an adjacent polish province just to see how it went and to get a feel for the planning of an attack (i.e., just for kicks). i selected a corp of three inf and right-clicked on an adjacent province with about five polish divisions in it. when i right-clicked all i got was a red 'x' inside the target province, then nothing else. hmmm. i then tried to order an attack by using the orders box over on the left-hand side of the screen. well i got the orders box to say 'moving to attack' but nothing ever happened, even after two months. i ended up trying with several other corps, same results. i can't even MOVE into an adjacent undefended enemy province. i can move around in my own country, no problem.

what's going on? how come i can't attack anybody? it's making me sad.

thanks in advance, and please excuse my ignorance if there's some simple solution that's on like page 2 of the manual.

Well, the first that comes to my mind is: did you declare war on Poland?

Our friend who attacks countries without a war declaration ( ) give me the opportunity to refer that is completely unrealistic to be forced to declare a war and invade after this.
If I wanted to occupy a region of another country I could invade and occupy this region and then go to negotiation with the defender (a very common tactic in rl). It is not necessary to declare a war and ruin your relations with the defending country and the other countries (ok is reasonable to have a crisis in your relations, but not to -200).
The demand territory option is limited to certain areas and you can use your armed forces to demand something.

I doubt this could / will be modeled in HoI2. Can you imagine what amount of belligerance you would have to get from this one (just as in RL where you can't just do this unless you don't care about how other nations will react). You could do it to one country with one province possibly then you are spoilt.
