Problem with convoy routes
I read in the manual that it was possible (and smart) to make convoys go from A to B, then B to C, C to D, and so on, making more efficient use of my convoys and giving the enemy less to hunt for...
I wanted to try this out with UK, making a convoy from Portsmouth to Gibraltar, Gibraltar-Malta, Malta-Alexandria, Aleksandria-India and so on... Problem is, when I want to make a supply convoy, I have to choose a port in Britain as the source province... I should be able to select provinces with supply depots as a source provinces, it would give those annoying Italian subs fewer convoys to hunt for in the Mediterranean... |

I'm having the same problem myself, so I'll give this thread bump.

The question would be something like:
Why can't I have supply convoys between two provinces, when neither of those provinces have a direct land route to the captial? (an example would be making a supply convoy between Pearl Harbour and Midway Island in the Pacific) The manual says it's possible, it even recommends it... Is it something I'm doing wrong, or is this not possible in the game at all? It should be possible, it's a much smarter and safer way of supplying far-away places... |

The manual is wrong about this. In the original HOI, this was possible, but supply mechanisms were changed a lot for HOI2 and this is no longer possible. Probably a last minute change which made that part of the manual incorrect (manuals are usually written before the gold version of the CD that is sold is fixed).
You can only send supplies to areas that you control from your homeland. Once enough supplies are sent, you can not send more until that supply stockpile runs down to a threshold number which triggers the next supply cycle. You can not send supplies from one island to another in a supply convoy chain. Just try to set up supply convoys manually and you can see what your choices are. They often are bizarre as far as I am concerned, but that is what we are all stuck with.

The really annoying part is that you can't run convoys to someplace your allies control. Especially annoying as the U.K., since you've got a lot of Commonwealth troops under your command.
I once forgot about this and took Sardinia with a Canadian invasion force. Nice place to operate aircraft from, if the Canadians ever bothered to run a supply convoy in there. They either didn't want to or couldn't. Fortunately, they eventually sold it to the US. |

It's one of the really bad changes they made to the convoy system! I don't know why they did this, and there is a bug connected to this also.
