Prologue ( Great Depression )

Prologue ( Great Depression )

Great Depression

The Great Depression was a worldwide economic recession that began in the late 1920s and persisted until the end of War in Europe. All countries were affected, especially the more industrialized nations like Great Britain, France, Japan and the United States. Rural areas, likewise suffered from the Depression as prices of corps dropped and decreasing demands for raw material resulting in lower price devasted the Mining and Lumber industry.

Wall Street Crash

Quote:
"Anyone who bought stocks in mid-1929 and held on to them saw most of his adult life pass by before getting back to even
Richard H. Salsman

The Wall Street Crash of 1929 begins on October 24 and continued through October 29 when share prices on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) collapsed. The Stock Market Crash did not plunge all Americans into instant poverty. Indeed, about one third of the population was seriously hurt by 1932; the other two thirds (who were employed) were hurting but not nearly as much

There are many explainations for this huge crash, Keynesian, Monetarist, and Austrian economists agree that the Crash followed a speculative boom that had taken hold in the late 1920s, which had led millions of Americans to invest heavily in the stock market, even borrowing money to buy more stock. Banks lent heavily to fund this share-buying spree. The rising share prices encouraged more people to invest, as they hoped the shares would rise further, thus fueling further rises, and creating an economic bubble. On October 24, 1929 (with the Dow just off its September 3rd peak from at 381.17), the bubble finally burst and panic selling set in. 12,894,650 shares were traded in the space of one day, as people desperately tried to dispose of their shares before they became worthless. The banks which had lent heavily to fund share buying found themselves saddled with debt, which caused many banks to fail. While millions of people lost their savings, businesses lost their credit lines and customers and were forced to close, causing massive unemployment.

Many commentators view the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act as a consequence of the Crash, since the act was not signed by President Hoover until June of 1930. However, supply-side economists argue that stock-market prices anticipate future profits. The Crash reflected investors’ rational expectations that tariffs would raise prices for U.S. consumers (both final consumers and manufacturers that used the imported products as inputs) and reduce firms’ future profits

Whatever the reason, the stock market took 25 years to recover its 1929 high value.

Dust Bowl

Dust Storm Approaching Texas

The Dust Bowl was a series of dust storms in the central United States, caused by a massive drought and decades of poor farming techniques. Beginning in 1930 and lasting until 1941, this ecological disaster caused an exodus from the Oklahoma Panhandle region and also the surrounding Great Plains in which around 300,000 to 400,000 Americans were displaced.[1] Topsoil across millions of acres was blown away because the indigenous sod had been broken for wheat farming and the vast herds of buffalo were no longer fertilizing the rest of the native grasses It covered parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, and New Mexico.

Why reply with criticism ? This is probably his first AAR. If anything you should incourage him. If there are mistakes tell him nicely. Not *Write more then this otherwise don't bother to update.* Thats mean. Sry for going of track from the AAR. Good start, like to see another update soon.

As the author has only made two posts, both of those in this thread, it would be a shame if he's given it up. Five paragraphs isn't really enough to tell anything about this tale and its relative abundance or shortage of plot so it does seem a trifle premature to judge it.

In passing I must confess my curiosity as to why on earth he put a on the end of the criticism. Most confusing.

Back to the subject at hand, don't be disheartened and carry on to the meat of this AAR.

I like this, and ignore that criticism. It might have been intended as poor sarcasm.

Here's a wakeup call. These people are not professionals and write AARs because they wish to share their gaming experience. AARs, no matter the quality, are encouraged and will not be subjected to unconstructive criticism or mean-spirited rudeness. If you have nothing constructive to say, then don't.

Why exactly is speed such a virtue? If someone can produce rapid fire quality updates that is excellent, but I'd rather have quality not quantity.

Additionaly I do hope that your advice wont be on spelling, punctuation, grammar, manners and general politeness.

Then do so in a constructive manner. There is no need to be inflammatory. People post here for fun, not to have their work needlessly savaged.
