Malta!! Air assault?
I'm playing as Turkey. I joined the Axis and I've conquered everything down to Alexandria and Italy has everything west thereof. I've liberated Israel which has actually built a few divisions for me but otherwise I'm rebuilding the Ottoman empire.
![]() I'm having trouble with Malta though. I've gotten all other islands in the Med. except for Malta. I've been bombing them with my whole airforce! Two TAC to kill their Infrastructure, another two TAC to bomb their Anti Air, four CAS to reduce their ORG and I still don't seem to be making any progress. I think Germany will go to war with Russia soon so I need these forces back at Ankara ASAP. I actually have an air transport and one paratrooper if that makes any difference. I tried landing a paratrooper on Crete earlier but he seemingly disappeared and the transport came back with 1% org. I'm assuming the transports got blown up by AA before they could drop? Anyway, what does it take for air assault to actually work? Oh yeah, one of Israel's divisions is led by Mj.General Sharon! |

best way to take Malta is amphib assault + shore bombardment with plenty of interdiction performed beforehand by your tac bombers..

1. who controls Gibraltar and Suez? if it is axis then you are in great shape as the maltese defenders will be running out of supply. 2. do you have the latest air doctrine, its in operational destruction path. there is a doctrine that will increase airborne assault. 3. are there any coastal forts? how many? 4. do you have the navy to back it up? any ships to shore bombard while you simultaneously amphib land and paratroop. (only use the paratrooper if it will bring victory. it stinks to waste a div for failure) 5. Air units, use all tacs to installation strike to take AA to 0 (like you have been doing) then switch up to logistical strike to decrease infrastructure, then go for interdiction. they will have a harder time raising org if infrastructure is 0 or very low. use you CAS to convoy raid while tac do the other work. (not 100% about CAS and the ability to convoy raid but they have been buffed for sea attack in 1.3a so they should have the option. i typically have NAV bombers or subs for it) have fun storming the castle! |

I hadn't thought of shore bomardment as my navy consists of a three transport ships. I could take military control over Italy and use whatever they have to shore bombard. Italian ships will shore bombard if I just move them next to Malta? If I remember correctly they've got four coastal forts. Is there a way to destroy them from the air? I've managed to get their AA down to 0 and their infrastructure down to ~2%. I had been using my CAS for interdiction without making much progress but blowing up their supply lines seems like a better use of them. I will try that! I will also research operational destruction path. I only have two research teams so I stopped researching that branch as soon as I got battlefield interdiction. I've got the blueprints from the Germans though so it should go fast. ![]() @Jemisi: Thanks! I actually had to try the invasion of Iraq three times before getting it right. All that effort just made it more satisfying to finally encircle twelve British+French divisions at Kuwait City. When I go to war with Russia I will storm up to the other side of the Caucasus and use the mountains to full advantage while soaking up all the oil from Baku + Maikop. Then I'll wait untill the Germans *hopefully* advance to Stalingrad and make a united front with them. If they don't manage that I will... um
