In the heart of Vienna ; An Austrian AAR

First, I have to say that this is my first AAR and I'm no expert in HoI2 so maybe I'll do some political or other mistakes. Also, english is not my native language so expect some gramatical mistakes in the text also.

If you find the style similiar, yes, I took something from this AAR and something from that AAR, I hope their autors won't be angry.

Okay let's get to the game:

I'm playing Normal/Aggresive as Austria, starting in 1936.

1st January, 1936

Our fatherland:

Our army:

I. Korps - General Beyer - 5 divisions - one 1936's HQ ; one 1918's cavalry division ; three infantry 1918's divisions (one with artillery brigade)
II. Korps - Mj. General Hickmann - 1 division - one 1918's infantry divison
III. Korps - Mj. General Barger - 1 divison - one 1918's infantry divison
IV. Korps - Mj. General Hammer - 1 divison - one 1918's infantry divison (with engineering brigade)
V. Korps - Mj. General Bassler - 1 division - one 1918's infantry divison
VI. Korps - Mj. General von Wittas - 1 division - one 1936's mountain infantry division

(I hope those details don't bore you)

Our army generals recieved order from Wilhelm Zehner (Chief of the army) to rearrange the army. They weren't very happy about that, (especially Herr Beyer didn't look happy) but an order is an order. After few moments it looked like this:

I. Korps - General Beyer - 4 divisions - two 1918's infantry divisions (one with engineering brigade) ; one 1936's HQ ; one 1918's cavalry division
I. Armee - Lt. Genral von Schönburg-Hartenstein - 2 divisions - two 1918's infantry divisions (one with artillery brigade)
II. Armee - Lt. General Kubena - 2 divisions - two 1918's infantry divisions
III. Armee - Lt. General von Jansa - 2 divisions - one 1918's infantry division ; one 1936's mountain infantry division

Mj. Generals Hickmann, Barger, Hammer, Bassler and von Wittas gratefuly accepted the vacation with smiles on their faces.

Meanwhile in the residence of Wilhelm Miklas:

"Sir, what project would you like to assign to our research teams?"
"I don't know, what do you reccomend Eduard?"
"Our armies really need improved weapons and equipment, those we currently have, are simply not sufficient." replied Eduard Baarenfels.
"If you think so, you have my support." nodded Herr Miklas.
"Right, if you'll excuse me, I will right now pay a visit to the Hirtenberger company. Good day." said Baarenfels and stood up.
"Good, and please, before you leave, tell my butler Hans to bring me some tea, thank you."

Nearly at the same moment, another order was assigned to Austrian army.

I. Korps - Stay at Vienna
I. Armee - move to Graz
II. Armee - move to Salzburg
III. Armee - move to Innsbruck

Also, recruitment of new troops began, trying to form a new infantry 1918's division.

Chapter II.

Claiming the Power

January - April

The research of Early Infantry Division was threatened in the beginning of January, because there were no money to fund it. Austria needed more factories, more workers and most importantly, more resources. At the meeting of grand Counsel of Austria:

"We definitely need more industry in order to keep running. If we don't get enough resources in this month, the recruitment of infantry and research of their equipment will be gravely threatened. Either we'll have to establish trade connections with Germany or Italy, or find another source." said Wilhelm Gebauer.
"And what other sources do you mean?" asked von Jansa.
"Right now, I can't think of anything. Maybe a war. But that is very dangerous at the current situation of our armies and supplies."
"War? With who? Germany? Italy? They would crush us! Czechoslovakia has far more divisions and has them better equipped too! Yugoslavia has support of Soviet Union and Germany. There is a slight chance we could defeat Switzerland, but their provinces aren't very materiel-rich. And Hungary has support of Italy." replied Alexander Löhr.
"If we could persuade Italy, to allow us to invade Hungary, the way would be free." said Gebauer.
"And how shall we explain our hospility to other states?" asked Schusnigg.
"Hungary isn't important. At least for states near us. I'm telling you, persuade Italy and we can declare war on Hungary!" said Gebauer angrily.
"I can send a letter to them..." said Wilhelm Miklas quietly.
"If you would sir. In the name of Austria, do it." encouraged him von Jansa.
"If anyone has anything to say, say it now, or be quiet forever."
Not a single voice was heard and the letter was ready in few moments.

Meanwhile, various events happened in the world:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ten days after the meeting of grand Counsel of Austria, a letter from Italy arrived:

Herr Wilhelm Miklas, President of Austria from the will of God,

We considered your requirement and came to this conclusion. We will not interfere in your war with Hungary, if you will join our side if the war with Great Britain shall start. That is the only condition. Think of it. It would be prosperous for both our countries.

Regards, Benito Mussolini, Head of Italian Government

The answer was clear. Yes. Yes, we will join you if the war shall start and we will fight side by side against pagans.

The way to Hungary was clear.

Invasion of Hungary was given name "Fall Schwarz". It's commander was Alfred von Jansa. All divisions were positioned on the borders with Hungary. All divisions were waiting for the command. For the command to launch attack.

Györ and Pocs were lightly defended and Austrian armies captured them quickly. In Györ was established the HQ of the army. Next target was the Hungarian capital, Budapest.

Austrian soldiers 5 kilometers from Budapest

The plan was to capture the suburbs of the city first, then head deeper in to the city. Everything was going according to plan until one Hungarian division broke the encirclement of the city and got away. Austrian soldiers, weakened by this blitz attack, were not able to stop two other Hungarian Divisions from escaping too. Rest of the resistance was finished quickly. At least the city was ours.

Hungarian soldiers, weakened from the previous attacks, were easily defeated by fresh reinforcments from II. Armee and pushed to Szeged. When the soldiers reorganized, an attack was commisioned on Szeged. After about a day an half, Austrian soldiers were defeated due to the lack of food and ammunition.

Two days later, von Jansa gave order to again attack the city. This time, with fresh supplies, Hungarian soldiers were easily defeated.

Last Hungarian stand, Debrecen laid in front of Austrian soldiers. It was only a matter of time, when the city was captured. "Fall Schwarz" was at end.

The only remaing thing to do was to annex Hungary:

Wilhelm Miklas officialy declaring annexation of Hungary

At the last days of March, troops were ordered to guard the captured provinces, in order to avoid revolt. One freshly recruited division was attached to the army.

P.S: Thanks for your replies. I will take a pause now, third update will come on Monday. (I hope)

Ah, Austria, one of those countries I can't get enough of. Are you going to rebuild to pre-1918 borders or just expand as necessary? Either way, good luck!

Yesterday, I planned to update, but because not much people replied, I thought there isn't interest. Yes, making an AAR for meself or for one or two good spirits is fun, but that just isn't the right satisfaction.

So, people and non-people, tell me, do you want me to continue on this?

Thank you for your replies.
