Geography Lesson

First of all, let's situate the nation of Cambodia in the EU universe. The proud Buddhist nation of Cambodia consists of two provinces: Cambodia & Khmer. Cambodia has 8.000 inhabitants, produces chinaware, is of Cambodian culture () and is the capital of Greater Cambodia. The second province, Khmer, is another tale. It produces ivory, has 8.000 inhabitants as well, but those inhabitants are of the Khmer culture, and somehow I feel that those Khmer will sooner or later become a grave danger to our country (and O boy, did history show that)

To our North, lies the nation of Vientiane, possessing the provinces of Laos, Sarakham & Mekong Delta (capital). To our South is Champa, a small nation, holding Mekong (capital) itself and Da Lat. To our East & West are two somewhat bigger nations. East is Dai Viet, they hold Da Nang, Tanh Noah, Lao Cai and their capital province Hanoi. West is Ayutthaya with Bangkok (capital), Phuket & Kwai.

The whole region trades through the Center of Trade in Malacca, a smaller, three province (Kualu Lumpur, Malacca & Johor) nation south of Ayutthaya.

In the very north is China, the juggernaught of the neighbourhood and powerful enough to wipe out the while SE Asia in one fell swoop. A giant at rest, that's what China is.

Starting Stats

We start with around 25.000 soldiers in total, holding camp in our capital. 5.000 of them are horsemen.
Our country has +2 stability, 200 ducats in treasury and can raise 10.000 men at the moment.

AAR: History Log: 1419-1450
I will only tell the important stuff about our country and the most important foreign things, minor thingies will not be told

Cambodia is a small country in the middle of mess that is South East Asia. Warring lords are ruling the lands and their hardly is a coherent whole. In the North lies monstrous China, waiting to annex all those pittiful little states. Union is required should we once stand up against the Big Chinese. But possibly, that Union will be a bloody one.

Let me first introduce myself. My name is Kim Seang Poam, a vendor of shrimp crackers in the city of Phnom Penh, capital of the Khmer province and loyal subject of the Cambodian rulers.
My father is a legend in this country, a commoner he was, but he rose to greatness in the armies of our majesties. But I, the coward I am, decided NOT to follow my father, much to the disgrace of my family. I did not want war, aggression or trouble, I wanted peace, a family and I wanted to be a happy man...
But, no longer... Our country was about to be immerged in trouble. And all this, all this because of the new ruler... A family that came out of nowhere, and took the trone by arms. A family that had big plans for Cambodia without seeing the consequences... a family that was mostly known for their nickname: the Vultures. Vultures, scavenger, praying after the dead, loving the dead and death. Cambodia was about to face its destiny.

It is January 1, 1419. The new rulers have only just established themselves and have already opposed new laws. Next to that they have started a reformation of the army. It is told that they wanted a professional army, not a demoralized rabble. Therefore they have already made the first arrangements (DP slider one step to QUALITY)

Somewhere halfway through the year, messenger arrive in the city, sent by court. They bring tale of how our neighbours, the Dai Viet, declared war upon Champa. The messengers also tell that our rulers demand that every man, able to fight prepares himself. War is upon US as well.

One month later, our country declares war upon Champa as well. I guess Big Vulture wants his piece of the cake as well. And I, after my father, am in the army as well. I didn't have a choice... The will of Big Vulture is the law. The international fame of our monarch has decreased as well... Warring with someone without a reason is told to be not a nice thing to do. I, together with some 17.000 other recruits am sent to the Champa capital in Mekong, another part of our army is heading for Da Lat. We arrive in Mekong and lay siege... It is halfway through September.

At the end of the month a small Champa detachment is slain by our armies in Da Lat. Word is also received that Dai Viet armies, lead by a fierce leader are heading for Da Lat as well.

At the start of the new year, Vientiane enters a military alliance with Taungu. The sieges are still proceeding well.
Because the Dai Viet claimed the siege in Da Lat, our regiments there have headed our way, to aid the siege here. They arrive on May 6.
A few days later, Ayutthaya enters an Alliance with Pegu.

Mekong is giving in....

On August 15, Mekong falls to our armies.
A while later, Dai Viet concludes peace with Champa, taking Da Lat, which they had captured recently, together with 142 ducats.
Few days afterwards, the Big Vulture concludes peace, and annexes the remains of Champa.

A peaceful year is upon us... I can return to my family. But still, a grim shadow, a shadow of hate, war & blood hangs above Cambodia.


On a shiny fall morning, somewhere in September, I am awakened by the galloping of horses. When I look out of the window, I see that it are mounted soldiers, heading in the direction of the capital. I succeed in stopping one. In a hurry, out of breath, he stammers that the Dai Viet have declared war on us. My face saddens.... Hmmm, the behaviour of our bloodthirsty monarch can not go unpunished apparently.

The Cambodian army arrives in Da Lat, laying siege on October 28, 1421. Another army of ours, arrives a month later in Da Nang and starts a siege as well.
The siege goes well and for the first two months, the Dai Viet doesn't react, apparently. But on January 29, the army in which I too serve, the army in Da Lat is attacked by a big army of Dai Viet, 25.000 man strong, lead by Le Loi, the fiercesome (5/4/5!!!) leader of the Dai Viet armies. The battle rages for several hours, but the tactical supremacy of Le Loi is soon shown, we are sent routing, we flee back to our capital province. However, Le Loi's armies, lead by some 10.000 mounted samourais chase us. Ten days later, we battle outside our capital, and again we incur massive losses, once more we have to flee. Le Loi armies stay in the province and lay siege upon our proud capital

On February 23, Dai Viet armies arrive in Mekong and besiege that province as well.

The remains of our army, those who are not sieging in Da Nang, gather in Khmer. After all armies are gathered, we set march for Da Lat, AGAIN.


May 1, 1422 : Vientiane is now granting Dai Viet military access to their country.

May 4, 1422 : Cambodian Army has arrived in Da Lat.

May 4, 1422 : We have initiated a siege in Da Lat.

May 25, 1422 : Cambodia entered a Military Alliance with Taungu and Vientiane.

On August 2, Dai Viet sents ANOTHER detachment to besiege Khmer, my home province. I pray that my family is allright. Parts of our sieging army are detached and sent to liberate Khmer, but on the 22, they lose the battle and flee to here again.

November 5, DAYLIGHT... The city in Da Lat has surrendered, and we march into the city. We start to feast on the food found in the city. Pigs, that's what we are.
Big Vulture meanwhile tries to conclude peace with Dai Viet, but two times he is dismissed from Dai Viet court.

A new year starts with bad news, on January 16, 1423 our capital falls to the great Le Loi. immediately afterwards, the man heads to Khmer.


February 13, 1423 : Portugal became Vassals of Castile.

April 2, 1423 : Cambodian Army has arrived in Cambodia.

April 2, 1423 : We have initiated a siege in Cambodia.

Halfway through the year, Dai Viet decides it is time to liberate some of their provinces, on August 14, the sieging army in Da Nang is beaten soundly on the field.

But on December 2, we re-conquer Cambodia... This war seems endless.

December 4, 1423 : Vientiane refuses to grant us military access.

February 5, 1424 : We entered a Royal Marriage with Vientiane.

March 9, 1424 : Cambodian Army has arrived in Da Nang.

March 9, 1424 : We have initiated a siege in Da Nang.

March 11, 1424 : Vientiane refuses to grant us military access.

April, 25 1424... Hurray... Big Vulture has concluded peace with Dai Viet... Our country has paid Dai Viet 25d, but not on single soldier cares... This war has taken too long.


July 21, 1424 : We entered a Royal Marriage with Taungu.

March 3, 1425 : Vientiane is now granting us military access to their country.

March 25, 1425: Cambodia left the Military Alliance she had with Taungu and Vientiane.

January 12, 1426 : We entered a Royal Marriage with Pegu.

August 25, 1426 : We entered a Royal Marriage with Ayutthaya.

Court has decided that we need allies and therefore they have already sent money to Pegu to improve our relations with them. On June 6, 1427, we enter an Alliance with Pegu & Ayutthaya.

March 20, 1428 : Taungu declared war upon Myanmar.

March 20, 1428 : Vientiane joined the war on the same side as Taungu in their war against Myanmar.

May 1, 1428 : We now have a trade agreement with Ayutthaya.

September 9, 1428 : The peasants in Cambodia are revolting!
--> Random event (dunno which anymore)

September 26, 1428 : We won a battle against Rebel Scum in Cambodia.

February 16, 1429 : Cambodia broke the Royal Marriage she had with Vientiane.

April 24, 1429 : Pegu declared war upon Taungu.

April 24, 1429 : Ayutthaya joined the war on the same side as Pegu in their war against Taungu.

April 24, 1429 : Vientiane joined the war on the same side as Taungu in their war against Pegu and Ayutthaya.

April 27, 1429 : Cambodia joined the war on the same side as Pegu and Ayutthaya in their war against Taungu and Vientiane.

May 15, 1429 : Cambodia Regiment has arrived in Laos.

May 15, 1429 : We have initiated a siege in Laos.

June 7, 1429 : Cambodian Army has arrived in Sarakham.

June 7, 1429 : We have initiated a siege in Sarakham.

July 30, 1429 : We are attacked by hostile armies of Vientiane in Sarakham.

August 2, 1429 : We won a battle against Vientiane in Sarakham.

February 12, 1430 : We are attacked by hostile armies of Vientiane in Laos. We won a battle against Vientiane in Laos.

March 27, 1430 : Cambodia Regiment has arrived in Mekong.

March 27, 1430 : We have engaged hostile armies in Mekong.

April 8, 1430 : We won a battle against Vientiane in Mekong.

April 8, 1430 : We have initiated a siege in Mekong.

May 12, 1430 : Our stability dropped.

Today, I hear that one of the most important nobles of our country was assassinated in the court of Big Vulture himself. This assassination has caused great turmoil amongst peasants

August 2, 1430 : Burgundy annexed Brabant.

September 4, 1430 : Pegu accepted peace with Taungu on the following terms : Taungu pays 42$ in indemnities.
--> DARN... No land grabbing this time

March 4, 1431 : Taungu accepted peace with Myanmar on the following terms : Myanmar pays 150$ in indemnities.

This Vulture kid is UNBELIEVABLE... we have only just got out from a war and once again he decides it is time to start another.
On June 13, 1432, the councellors of the Dai Viet receive a letter... our Declaration of War.

June 13, 1432 : Pegu joined the war on the same side as Cambodia in their war against Dai Viet.

June 13, 1432 : Ayutthaya joined the war on the same side as Cambodia and Pegu in their war against Dai Viet.

July 9, 1432 : Cambodia Regiment has arrived in Da Lat.

July 9, 1432 : We have engaged hostile armies in Da Lat.

July 13, 1432 : We lost a battle against Dai Viet in Da Lat.

I myself am heading for Da Nang with the majority of our troops. When we hear of the losses in Da Lat, the army saddens

July 16, 1432 : Cambodian Army has arrived in Da Nang.

July 16, 1432 : We have engaged hostile armies in Da Nang.

July 19, 1432 : We won a battle against Dai Viet in Da Nang.

July 19, 1432 : We have initiated a siege in Da Nang.

However, we strike back in Da Lat, with new recruits, march is set again to the dreaded province and on September 9, the army arrives there, beats the local Dai Viet garrison and lays siege upon the city.

June 17 1433: I am a happy man... Without much trouble, Da Nang has fallen to us. Not a single Dai Viet army was seen to liberate the province... If all wars were this easy.

However, in the meanwhile our allies have dropped out of the wars... DAMN TRAITORS... Pegu received a small 22d bribe, while Ayutthaya did it for a Status Quo.
After the feastivities, we head to Tanh Noah, where we innitiate siege on July 14.

October 6, 1433 : Dahomey became Vassals of Benin.

November 17, 1433 : We captured the province of Da Lat from Dai Viet

November 18, 1433 : Brittany became Vassals of England.

December 2, 1433 : Ragusa became Vassals of Venice.

The army that was victorious in Da Lat has now headed for Hanoi. They arrive there on Feb 1, 1434.
1434-01-00 : February 1, 1434 : We have initiated a siege in Hanoi.

April 15, 1434 : We captured the province of Tanh Noah from Dai Viet. Victories come in quick succession now and we head for the last Dai Viet province, Lao Cai.

June 11, 1434 : Cambodian Army has arrived in Lao Cai.

June 11, 1434 : We have initiated a siege in Lao Cai.

August 7, 1434 : Naples became Vassals of Aragon.

August 16, 1434 : We are attacked by hostile armies of Dai Viet in Lao Cai.

August 26, 1434 : We won a battle against Dai Viet in Lao Cai.

September 11, 1434 : We are attacked by hostile armies of Dai Viet in Hanoi.

September 21, 1434 : We won a battle against Dai Viet in Hanoi.

October 3, 1434 : Tanh Noah has been besieged by Dai Viet

November 6, 1434 : Navarra became Vassals of Castile.

January 16, 1435 : France annexed Provence.

April 12, 1435 : We captured the province of Lao Cai from Dai Viet
Only Hanoi remains...

May 9, 1435 : Cambodian Army has arrived in Hanoi.

September 9, 1435 : We captured the province of Hanoi from Dai Viet.

HURRAY... The Dai Viet is under our complete control, and the notorious Vulture heads for the negotiation table a happy man. He gets the most out of it. Cambodian territory is enlarged with the adding of Da Lat, Da Nang & Tanh Noah. We also take the remaining 205d from the Dai Viet treasury.

December 19, 1435 : We entered a Royal Marriage with Malacca.

December 19, 1435 : We entered a Royal Marriage with Assam.

sorry to have to say this ....but this is hardly the most exciting AAR I have read recently...it would be nice with just a bit of editing of the history log and perhaps a bit of comments regarding strategy, domestic sliders etc....but otherwise, well I always welcome more AAR's so keep it up....although it would be appriciated more if u would do a bit of the above!

Ok to answer your questions:

MAP

Yes the SE Asian map is redrawn, but so is the whole map. Of course a lot of TI and PTI removed. More inland provinces are there, more provinces in general and a lot of them are renamed. Tibet is there for example, which is quite inland
I shall give you a list of the nations from India's easternmost border till the Chinese border. Last Indian nation is Bengal, then we arrive in the mess that is SE Asia From left to right and bottom to top, we have Arakan, Assam, Myanmar, Tibet, Pegu, Taungu, Malacca, Ayutthaya, Cambodia, Vientiane, Champa, Dai Viet, China. And then I forget a lot of the possible revolters, for example Luang Prabang (sp?) & Khmer.

Further to the north lie, apart from Tiber, the Chagatai Khanate (in a corridor spanning from Uzbek territory till Chinese border), Korea and Manchu (both north of China).

On the different Indonesian islands we have Atjeh (capital = Ajeh), Mataram (Bali), Brunei (Brunei) and Makassar (Makassar)

RELIGION

Cambodia is buddhist as are most of the SE Asian countries. One is Hindu (Champa) and some others are Moslem (Malacca and some of the island nations). My sliders are set as follows: Christian & Konfucian all the way to the left (not tolerated), Buddhist all the way to the right (tolerated), Moslem & Hindu divide the rest.
