New Map: Korea

For the map of Korea, I suggest using the EU2 Asian chapter as a guideline. The provinces they have are historically accurate, as Korea was divided into those eight provinces during the EU 2 timeline and unchanged for hundreds of years, though their names have. They were formed 1413 and lasted until 1896, so just right for the EU2 timeframe. The names given on the EU2 Asian map are the modern ones, adopted in the late 19th century. Here's a list of more historically accurate names for the EU2 time period:

Modern/Asian EU2 name-->historic regional name (provincial capital)
Chungcheong-->Hoseo (capital: Gongju)
Gangwon-->Yeongdong (capital: Wonju)
Gyeonggi-->Gijeon (capital: Hanseong)
Gyeongsang-->Yeongnam (capital: Daegu)
Hamgyŏng-->Kwanbuk (capital: Hamhŭng)
Hwanghae-->Haesŏ (capital: Haeju)
Jeolla -->Honam (capital:Jeonju)
P'yŏngan-->Kwansŏ (capital: P'yongyang)

The new roman transcription of Korean names no more includes " ' " (P'usan is now Busan) nor accents.

XIth century

XVth century

The EU2: Asia Chapter map itself is...ugly. As sin. It looks nothing like Korea. The eight provinces sound right, but what is needed right now is a map of them. I will go searching for one.

I agree that visually speaking, Korea is pretty ugly with the other map. There must be a better map that can be used if we're modifying the current one.

8 provinces sound about right for Korea.

The problem is finding a map to work from. I can't find any that give a decent approximation of Korea's paldo (eight provinces).

There are plenty of Japanese sources that call it Ezochi and its official name was Ezochi. It was changed from Ezochi to Hokkaido in 1869. What other evidence do you need?

The modern provinces are based on splits of the older provinces. Just merge the new ones and you'll get the old borders, except for Gangwon

Alright, I've come up with a working map of Korea based on XieChengnuo's template. I need somewhere to host it, though. Any offers?

And yes, they are all clickable. I've tested them with both army and city icons.

I think those are the names? Or do you mean the characters? All the sources that I've found use those names for the paldo.

From memory:
Japanese invasion in 1592 and 1596
Manchu invasion/conquest in the 17th century

Hamgyeong: 함경
Pyeongan: 평안
Hwanghae: 황해
Gangwon: 강원
Gyeonggi: 경기
Chungcheong: 충청
Jeolla: 전라
Gyeongsang: 경상

If anyone is interested, this is the Hangul of each province. I don't know if I can do the Hanja.
