It has come to our attention<Coz1, Alexandru H., and myself> that the original idea of having people discuss the Gazette in the various fora bAARs hasn't really taken off. Therefore this is the place to discuss, comment, and generally give feedback on the Gazette!

So feel free to comment, critique, and discuss anything you've read in the Gazette. Whether it be an AARticle from one of the EditAARs, or one of the featured columnists, or even one of the interviews that will be ongoing, such as the Free Company Interviews. Plus there will be interviews with various membAARs from the various AAR forums!

So here it is! Make yourself at home! There is plenty of seating here, and there IS a smoking section of course! So don't be shy, speak up!

To help people dive in, I shall post the official index of the Gazette.....

<===== =====>

Don't forget, the next issue is on Sunday...Don't be late :)

And I might add that as much as we love compliments and such :D, we would like to keep this area for discussions more than just "Great job guys" and the like. We certainly hope you enjoy what has been written so far and this is intended for folks to share exactly what they liked and disliked and/or agreed and disagreed about the features that have been written so far and will be written in the future. :) So step on in the room and let the discussions begin!

Oh, crap, I was going to write something!!

*rushes off*

Well, I can only write an "atta-boy" comment here. It's great. I like to read it and will read further issues. That doesn't really help, or does it? :)

I hope you'll go for more detailed views on comments and writing styles as that is the most interesting part for me.

Perhaps you could give somewhat of a starting help in one of the next issues. How to write an AAR for Dummies. Kind of an excerpt from the SolAARium...

I think just limiting the Gazette to the AAR domain is a bit to narrow a remit. I think there is real scope for broadening its horizons to get people in touch with all the things going on round the forums. Multi play would Im sure furnish many an interesting article, whilst the various scenarios and mods provide scope for review.

The various RPG games would I'm sure benefit from some exposure without having to delve through all the threads in their respective areas. There are many exceptional posters who have, wit insight and great powers of explanation which could even cast a satirical eye over OT and even history, God knows, it erects the scaffold for you.

You could even feature an uninterupted debate between two OT heavy weights, I would surely tune in for that.

Interviews of paradox staff would interest me, even some of the more colourful support staff on the forum would be worthy of some copy :D

Though there were some well written articles in the gazette Im not sure that this alone is sufficent to maintain interest which is a shame because it is a great idea which if broadened and some of the great and the good give some of their time to submit articles im sure it would be a positive beacon for Paradox.

Those are good ideas, Smirfy, and thanks for getting the discussion ball rolling, as it were.

As for your ideas, I would suggest that what we have is an AARland Gazette, rather than a Paradox Gazette. It is here to serve the purpose of cross-forum recommendation and interest between the different game AAR areas. Thus OT and such really does not belong here. I'm sure an expansion could easily be done, and if others wish to attempt it, then more power to them, but I know I and the other editAARs have a hard enough time simply doing it for the four (soon five) games we currently have.

Now multi-play and RPG could very well find a place here as their work is quite similar to what we do in AARland, but they would need to come to us with those ideas. We are always open to suggested AARticles if someone wishes to pitch them to us. :D Hint, hint.

Basically, interest in the gazette is interest in AARland as whole rather than any one part. So far, we have generally kept to ourselves - EUI in EUI, EUII in EUII, etc. with a few folks that branch out. When the forums merged, this gazette was an attempt to assist in that merger of personalities into one grand community rather than five little ones. Just the thoughts of one editAAR, so don't think I speak for all of us, though I am sure they have their thoughts on it as well. ;)

Well as the AAR forum guards the flame of literacy and manners I feel the Gazette would be missing out on essential branchs of the English written word, satire and debate. I was not suggesting letting the barbarians arrive at the gates but to illuminate to people the positive aspect of eloquent debate and its place in any society which i need reminded of constantly, it might even improve the tone of OT.

So my idea would in no way be incompatible with the spirit of AARland and help strengthen technique and broaden horizons to more creative ideas.

Well to address your ideas about interviews with Admins and such...I have sent interview questions to Johan and Havard to start...but I haven't received a reply from them yet! But it IS something we are going to do on that front.

I also agree that MP action, especially since there are wonderful AARs that have been written from MP games, could have AARticles written about them. But I haven't participated much in such, other than the Late Night Liquor Club and a two player game between nalivayko and myself...so I am really not the one to write about that...but I would LOVE someone to write one about it...Any MP player/writAARs interested?

I kind of like that idea, well both ideas.

The multi-game angle is one which might be worth looking into. The only thing I fear about the idea of debates is how would it work? We don't want to clutter the Gazette. Would it be a recorded Private Messeging?

As far as debates - I think it might be accomplished exactly as Estonianzulu suggests, though the topics should be about AARland, writing and/or AARs. Debate on topics such as religion, politics or our favorite soda simply do not belong in the Gazette as it is currently structured.

And I second Amric's call for any individuals involved in MP action to come up with a great AARticle on what it is, entails and the difficulties presented by such...or anything else pertaining to that endeavor. It would make for one or many interesting AARticles. :D

And I would add that anyone that has things they might like to cover in the Gazette, from AARticle ideas to features we might include - PLEASE feel free to PM anyone of the editAARs (myself, Amric or Alexandru H.) We are always on the lookout for new columnists and things to write about! Don't be shy by any means. :)

Yeah, if I can write an AArticle, anyone can ;)

Try two - look for the second this weekend folks. ;) And quite right! Every single membAAR of AARland has a place for their thoughts and musings about this area we inhabit. :)

Well, the third issue is almost finished...we still have two people to post but things are looking great...

Excellent IUssue *hits subscribe* :p

Amric, it may be my settings, but the two interviews are really messed up with strange line jumps?

D, you have no way of knowing how it was ;) I was brand new, two three weeks into modding when LD took his first break, about the same time Vicky was released... had it not been for the great support of Stroph, bAArtenders and the like, and LD's timely return I might have quit all together :)

Amric just pasted the interviews from his mailbox, I think...

Now, if he agrees, he should really make them beautiful again, and maybe even try to wheatify (using the wheat color) the questions...

Actually I took it from my mailbox to word where I did a tad bit of editing<IE, spelling, grammer>. It looks okay on my screen. But I am using 800X600 screen size. Perhaps that is the difference? I can't see what the problem is. I use that screen resolution because it is the easiest for me to see. The letters are small enough as it is...and what is wheat color anyway?

Edit: I see what you mean when I go into the edit screen. I fixed V's...but now T Hawks looks HORRIBLE on my screen in normal viewing mode. I hope to God it looks better in the 1024x800 and higher resolutions...cause it looks godawful in mine. And I can't seem to fix it!<sigh>

I'll go and look, I can edit it ofc, but I thought I would be polite to let you have it, what is wrong on screen is too many line breaks.. as if it was copied form one of those mails that uses line break if the mail is open in a small window...

V

Edited Hawk's too, now most of it looks OK in my end... seems to be tad random though as it doesn't appear in ALL review/previews I had, but deleting and then adding ALL spces that ended a line broke most of it here, I'd say you have some strange codes from your mail that survived in the word document and got reactivated in the posts?

Ok, this is the index for the third issue... Unfortunately, it's not complete, I still have a columnist missing, but I have to go and I don't think I'll be able to update it until tomorrow...I'm still in vacation...:)
