1.03 Crash to Desktop After selecting Country to Play

Fresh install of 1.0, then patched to 1.03. The game allows me to select my campaign and my country, but CTDs when I click on start. The screen goes black and my monitor flashes like it does in other games when it is trying to readjust the resolution or color depth, then the ctd.

And, of course, I'm inlcuding the obligatory "It worked with 1.02" statement (because it did).

Any bright ideas or do I just wait for 1.04?

It turns out the problem can be circumvented (for me) by renaming the "avi" folder to something else e.g. "avi_bak" (as was mentioned in several other posts).

That is the work around for now, as an added bonus you get into the game faster by bypassing the intro videos.

Surprise surprise, the new ati catalyst -drivers (4.x) are the reason. Rollback to 3.9 and everything (=EU engine) works fine again. But if this isn't fixed in future catalyst versions, everyone should just use the "avi_bak-fix", i guess..
