Prinicipality of Suzdal, in Vladimir
Principality of Suzdal in Vladimir ![]() ___ The realm of Suzdal Nation: Suzdal Head of State: Yuri V, Prince of Suzdal Player: Ladislav Religion: Orthodox Culture: Russian Stats: 1/0/2/3/1 --> [1/0/2/3/1] Provinces: 1 Ports: 0 Owned: Vladimir ___ ![]() A map of the region ___ History of Suzdal ![]() The first reference to Suzdal was made in the chronicle in 1024 in connection with the peasants' uprising, which spread "throughout the land". At the turn of the 12th century a fortified town (i.e. the kremlin) was built at the bend of the Kamenka river. The river protected the town from the west and a deep moat was dug from the east. The eastern ramparts with wooden walls and towers on the top were also built for protection. The old ramparts and the moat survived up to now, and belong to the historical sights of the town. The ancient cathedral of the Assumption was constructed in the Kremlin by the craftsmen of prince Vladimir Monomahk of Kiev at the end of the 11th - the beginning of th 12th centuries. It was at the same period that the first Suzdalian monastery of St. Demetrius was founded to the west of the Kremlin. To the east of the Kremlin the posad inhabited by craftsmen and traders began to grow. The posad was also fortified with ramparts and walls. All the main parts of the old town (the Kremlin, the posad, the monasteries) are well preserved in Suzdal. Suzdal is one of those rare towns in Russia, which could preserve their old lay-out. In 1222-1225 the cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin was built in the Kremlin on the site of the Assumption cathedral, which had collapsed. The Nativity cathedral is the oldest surviving monument in Suzdal, one in a row of beautiful monuments of the Vladimir-Suzdal white stone architecture of the 12th-13th centuries. The flourishing of art and culture in the North-Eastern Russia at the beginning of the 13th century was interrupted by the Mongol-Tartar invasion. In winter of 1238 Suzdal was seized and burnt down by the tartars. In the 14th century the principality of Suzdal and Nizhny Novgorod rises. The princes of Suzdal minted their own coins and that showed their great political and economic power at that time. Two new monasteries were founded in the 14th century - the monastery of Our Saviour in 1352 and the convent of the Intercession in 1364. From the middle of the 14th century Suzdal was also a center of the bishopric. At that time the Kremlin became the residence of the archbishops. Last edited by Ladislav; 09-12-2004 at 11:02. |

Vladimir, the capital of the Suzdal principality ![]() Vladimir is over one thousand years old. It was founded by prince Vladimir of Kiev on the high bank of the Klyazma river at the end of the 10th century. At the beginning of the 12th century the city was fortified by prince Vladimir Monomakh and at the middle of the 12th century Vladimir became the capital of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality and of the North-Eastern Russia. White stone monuments of the 12th century - the Golden Gate, the principal cathedral, the royal and the monastery churches were worthy representation of the principle city making a bridge between the former capital Kiev and the would be capital - Moscow. Andrei Bogolyubsky's younger brother Vsevolod the Big Nest preserved and added to the magnificence of the city. He constructed the Kremlin with the cathedral of St. Demetrius, the Nativity monastery with the white stone cathedral, the Princess Convent and the most sacred thing of the principality - the Assumption cathedral. The mongol invasion of the 13th century undermined the might of Vladimir: stone buildings were no longer constructed, many handicrafts were forgotten, the city was desolated. In 1263 Vladimir prince Alexandre Nevsky (grand son of prince Vsevolod the Big Nest) died. He was known as a hero of the battle on the Chudskoye lake, a clever diplomat and field commander. His remains had been kept in the Nativity monastery in Vladimir. ![]() Yuri V., prince of Suzdal currently resides in Vladimir ___

Court of Suzdal ![]() The Court of Suzdal is an ancient one. For centuries have the Russians and Tatars lived along the banks of the frozen river, separated from others by the vast expanses of the tayga. As the snow melts, a few desperate traders visit these walled outposts where still the wolf, bear and fox rule the snow covered forests, never-ending expanses of birches, treacherous swamps and marsh-lands. This is the land of Vladimir. This is the Principality of Suzdal. ___ Yuri V. "the Mute" Grand Prince of Suzdal, ruler of Vladimir ![]() Yuri V. has ruled Suzdal for decades. His policy of seclusion has earned him the nickename "Mute". Alas, those close to the power know that Yuri is a wise and careful ruler. With Suzdal bordering two strong realms - Muscowy to the West and the Tatar Empire to the East, passivity is often the best course of action. ___ Natasha "the Old" Grand Princess of Suzdal, wife of Yuri V. ![]() Yuri has married the daughter of a premiere Suzdal noble, while both still young, in order to solidify his position as the ruler of the realm. The weddlock has proven benefitial, as his move placated his potential defectors and has introduced a long-lasting period of internal prosperity in Suzdal. The Princess is only a few years older than the Prince, but she has nonetheless earned the nickname "Old" due to the age difference. ___ Yuri "the Small" Prince of Suzdal, son of the Grand Prince ![]() Although nick-named "Small". Yuri is everything, but. A stout young man, reputed in hunt and occasional skirmish with marauders, he is a worthy successor to the title of Grand Prince. However, his hot tempter and martial fierceness might interfere with the delicate balancing of diplomacy that is needed of a successful ruler of Suzdal. He earned the nickname "the Small" only in relation to his father, compared to whom he did indeed look small. Until about age 15. He now towers over most of the Palace Guards too. The calling stuck. ___ Dimitri "the Saint" Prince of Suzdal, second son of the grand Prince ![]() The youngest child of the Grand Princess. Dimitri is but eight years old, but already he has reportedly seen a vision of a saint. The ruling family, but especially the grand Princess fervently believes in the validity of these visions and supports young Dimitri in whatever he attempts to undertake. His visions have earned him the nickname "the Saint", although under hushed tones, he is also called "the Crazy". Either way, he is destined for a life in the Church. ___ Yekaterina "the Generous" Princess of Suzdal, Daughter of the Grand Prince ![]() ![]() Yekaterina is the oldest daughter of the Grand Prince. She is a fun-loving and always happy yound lady. She brings sunshine wherever she steps. The nickname "Generous" does not however belong to her because of her charity, but rather her reputed feats of prodigical love-making. The Grand Prince executes all who utter her nick-name before his ears! ___ Dasa "the Cold" Princess of Suzdal, second daughter of the Grand Prince ![]() ![]() Dasa is the anthethesis of Yekaterina. She is cold and withdrawn. Most of her time she spends in her own chamber. Her removed air earned her the nickname "the cold". It is rumored that Dasa is jealous of Yekaterina and wouldn't like to see anything better than having Yekaterina removed from the court. ___ Alsu "the Pretty" Princess of Suzdal ![]() ![]() The youngest daughter of the Grand Prince. Despite her Tatar name, given to her by her mother in anger, once she learned she again bore a daughter, Alsu is beautiful. The Grand Prince weary of the effects of her beauty she will have on men is keeping her away from the Court and she currently resides in a nunnery outside of Vladimir, albeit not far. She is the most beloved by the Grand Prince. Last edited by Ladislav; 13-08-2004 at 12:16. |

Chamber of Advisors ___ ![]() Alexander Fyorodov Advisor of War The Army of Suzdal is small. Most of the garrison resides close to the Vladimir Kremlin (walled city). The army maintenance is overviewed by Alexander Fyorodov, a seasoned campaigner. The little troop is often however commanded by Prince Yuri, who is among the barracks as among his own chambers. The strength of Suzdal is approximately 1,000 lances strong. Additional 1,000 men can be mustered if need be. ___ ![]() Ilya Repin Advisor of Diplomacy Ilya Repin is one of the few people in Vladimir, who have traveled beyond the ill-defined, boggy borders of Suzdal. As such, he was chosen by the Grand Prince to be his advisor in the fine art of diplomacy. Ilya is one of the most trusted advisors of the Grand Prince. Disliked by Prince Yuri, Repin is reputed to be a seminal figure in protecting the interests of Suzdal on the vast Tayga. Making sure no harm by fire nor sword would come to the small realm. It is thanks to him that Suzdal remains independant and free, in these times of shifting borders. ___ ![]() Pyotr Pyotrovich Advisor of Trade Pyotr Pyotrovich is the richest merchant in Vladimir. His wealth reputedly rivals that of the Grand Prince. He has become rich through the fur trade. Suzdal offers little else in the arena of trade. There is little need of the over-abundant timber, since that can be transported easier from regions closer to the Economic heartland of Europe or Arabia. Pyotr Pyotrovich has little to advise the Grand Prince and so mostly looks after his own enterprises. ___ ![]() Bishop Mikhael "Misha" Advisor of Faith, Bishop of Suzdal Bishop Mikhael is a well-meaning man in his sixties. With the advancing age, his thoughts have become less refined and so the adoring populace has given him the nickname "Misha" (cub). A frequent visitor to the grand Prince, he acts like a grandfather to the children. Especially the young Alsu, as well as Dimitrii. Mikhael resolutely believes in the righteousness of Dimitrii's visions and is supported by the Grand Princess in his beliefs. As his time of departure nears, clerical contenders for the bishopric seat are already scheming, and hence over old Mikhael's head, clouds of uneasiness are forming. Prologue ![]() The Court is in full session. The Grand Prince sits on his chair, on his side is Grand Princess Natasha. Behind the Grand Prince stands the omni-present Ilya Repin. All of importance are present: Prince Yuri, with Alexander Fyorodov next to him. Prince Dimitri, watched carefully by Bishop Mikhael "Misha". Pyotr Pyotrovich standing besides Princesses Dasa and Yekaterina. Dasa coldly observing as Yekaterina is being entertained by the fat merchant. Only Alsu is missing, still living in the nunnery, although her beauty would be wasted behind a veil. An important asset to Suzdal, but especially to the Grand Prince, who only wants the best for his youngest daughter. Ilya Repin, advisor of diplomacy, is in a hushed conversation with the Grand Prince. Yuri V. mimicks to Ilya Repin to cease and the trusted lieutenant of Vladimir falls silent. All eyes are now on the unrivaled ruler of Vladimir. He begins obliquely. He is a master of the shifting words of diplomacy and rarely adresses an issue head on. "In these times of change, when borders are like the summer floods. Receding and again overflowing their banks, the time has come for Suzdal to once again come from its long and peaceful sleep. Like the bears that roam the tayga in their hundreds, we have emerged from the long sleep of winter, and will resume our post among the community of nations that lie beyond the marshy frontiers of Suzdal. We have been patient and careful, but must now put our hands to the labor. In order not to be swept away like small pebbles in a summer storm. We must send word to the surrounding realms that Suzdal's voice will once again be heard beyond the city walls of Vladimir. Already mounted messengers are carrying letters to palaces near and far, so that we may better steer the boat that is our existence." The attendants listen carefully, but not many are surprised. It has been rumoured in the porous chamber walls of the Palace that the Grand Prince will make such a proclamation soon. As the few whispers fade, Ilya Repin, advisor of diplomacy and most trusted counsel to the Grand Prince announces to the Grand Hall: "The Court of the Grand Prinicipality of Suzdal in Vladimir is now open!" A letter arives from Moscow,
"Yuri V, Prince of Suzdal, It is excellent to know that Suzdal will once again engage itself in diplomacy with the outside world. The silence that Russia reacieved from both Suzdal and Ryzan after we freed you from the Horde was disheartening. However, now I hope a relationship can prosper and the bonds of cooperation can form. I ask your permission to establish a diplomatic mission in Vladimir, and I invite you to do the same in Moscow. As I am sure you have heard I was forced to submit to the Horde, making them stronger, and while I believe that the treaty I have just signed with them will secure peace for years it is still better to be unified then divided. Unfortunately, rivalries still occur and the Princess in Pskov manipulated a weak situation for Russia to destroy us and add to her own lands. However, this has only strengthened our bonds with former enemies, such as the Kingdom of Lithuania, and I hope that Moscow's bonds with Suzdal can also experience such a revival. written by his own hand in Moscow, Vasily II, Czar of Russia" |

Vladimir Zavid Levivitch was not a diplomat, he had never wanted to be a diplomat and didn't want to now. In fact there would be nothing he would have rathered than to remain in the colony that shared his name and oversee its further development and construction. Which as some small consolation in the back of his mind, was going quite nicely of late. The 'posad' was recently finished, materials and colonists were now arriving by the river route at rates that weren't possible in the outposts' infancy. Unforunately in this case however, so was correspondance. This of particular note, all the way from Pskov, in the Czarina's hand. Zavid Levivitch Probeetski was not a diplomat, no, but he was qualified, intelligent, and operating not far from Vladimir-Suzdal. It was thus that he set forth from Zavidgrad on the Syevernaya Dvina southward through the frozen poostash toward his destination - what had for a time been a rival to a Kiev devastated by civil war and even capitol of Rus, home of the Metropolitanate, Vladimir. Zavid Levivitch was a traditionalist, and while he quietly supported many of the Czarina's more liberal projects (if only because they were making him fabulously wealthy of late), he walked, talked, ate and dressed conservatively. So it was with the traditional boyar robes he and his small embassy passed through into the Kremlin. His beard well-groomed and perfumed, his face set hard and serious by nature and habit he admired the city around him. He tried to imagine the Golden Gates built to rival those of Kiev, in general just tried to imagine the city before the Mongols came. As they enetered the abode of the Prince he couldn't help but be impressed. Only recently had the court in Pskov seen any glorification to the Prince, and Novgorod had not had a Prince reside in the city for what was in the hundreds of years now. As such, the opulence of the dwellings even of the Czarina were as yet rather modest, at least superficially. The wealth inside, was that of the Polotovski's themselves. Nodding respectfully to the appropriate offical he introduced himself, "I am Zavid Levivitch, come as represntitive of the Czarina Mina Andreyevna, Grand Princess of Pskov-Novgorod. I amiably seek audience with the most honorable Grand Prince Yuri of Vladimir-Suzdal if he would be so gracious." Zavid spoke deeply, sternly, but respectfully and not impolitely, his face remaining hard as ever. Weathered by time and nature, its long and many lines gave an almost handsome distinction that seemed to win the respect of many.

A young, fresh-faced young man looked up and around the door to the Grand Hall of the court of Suzdal, reaching up to pull his hat off. A mop of brown curls fell out, coming down just over his dark eyes. He tugged at the band of his hat nervously as he looked around himself again. Everything in Russia was so...big, so expansive. He swallowed, casting a glance over his shoulder. There were people bustling about, no doubt nobles and perhaps members of the Prince's family.
Swallowing again, the young man takes a deep breath and pushes open the doors to the Grand Hall and takes a step inside. The color and spectacle of the Hall force him to stop a moment, blinking at his surroundings. "There is nothing like this in Moldavia..." he says to himself, thinking of the cold stone of Castle Iasi. Gathering his wits about him once more, he steps forward, looking at the people gathered in front of him. Clearing his throat quietly, he waits to be called upon. Once he has been granted the floor, he kneels in front of the Grand Prince, dropping his head to the floor. "Your Eminence Yuri V, greetings from Moldavia and her Voivode, Stefan II. My name is Ieremia Potcova, and I greet you as friends and brothers in the One True Faith. My Voivode has sent me to your court to act as ambassador and servant to you, and to help Moldavia and Suzdal establish powerful bonds of friendship as we have with other Russian realms." Finishing his speech, he sighed, exhaling quickly. This was tough work. Standing, he pulled a long burlap roll from his cloak and set it on the floor before the Grand Prince. With a quick tug, he unrolled it, revealing a glimmering silver sword still in its sheath. The scabbard positively shined in the light of the Hall, and Ieremia picked it up gently in gloved hands, slowly drawing the top four inches of the weapon out of the sheath so as to show the edge to the Grand Prince. "The peak of Moldavian weaponsmithing, a finer piece you'll never see." The edge was clearly from even a quick glance razor sharp, and the visible portion of the blade was perfectly straight. A large ruby served as the pommel, held in the clutches of a silver bird's claw. The hilt was wrapped in white calfskin, soft and supple to the touch, and engravings ran up and down the scabbard, bearing the name of the Grand Prince. The blade however, was all business. A quick inspection showed this piece was not only decorative, but practical as well. Ieremia found himself beaming as he showed the weapon off...but disclosing the craftsman of such a piece might be too pompous... Sliding it back into the sheath, Ieremia handed the sword to a page to give to the Grand Prince should he so desire. Reaching into another pocket, he pulled out a small mahogany box. "The Voivode is also aware that Your Eminence has three lovely daughters and a beautiful wife, and wanted to bestow a small token of Moldavia's friendship upon each of them." With that, Ieremia opened the box, showing four tiny silver pendants, each with a different stone; one sapphire, one ruby, one emerald, and one diamond. Each pendant bore an individual name, painstakingly engraved in delicate script, one for Yekaterina, one for Dasa, one for Alsu, and the diamond of course for Natasha. "These pieces were specially wrought by the Voivode's personal jeweler." he said with a flourish, closing the box and handing it to a page as well. With that, Ieremia bowed and completed his introduction. "I hope that my presence here in your court shall please Your Eminence, and you shall accept me here."

![]() The Grand Prince observes all that has occured. Finally, not long after he has sent missives to other palaces, strangers have arrived, bearing gifts of treasure, seals of powerful rulers. It is as if ancient Russia herself has been awaken by the thawing. Yuri V. sits on his throne and while with his eyes glancing at the three men before him, he only whispers something to Ilya Repin's ear. For a while they converse in such a fashion. it seems that the Advisor of diplomacy would like to converse longer, but once again the all powerful, ringed hand of "the Mute" makes him so too. He clears his throat and speaks (Repin): "The Grand Prince is gladdened that so many realms have so promptly sent word of friendship and brotherhood, to the last citadel of Orthodoxy in the tayga, Vladimir - ancient city of Suzdal. Some of you brought gifts, which are greatly appreciated. It is not often that traders from beyond the horizon travel to the walled city of Vladimir. Our realm is removed from all that has occured in the past. When old alliances, pacts and bonds of friendship were broken. When all of Rus was covered in the darkness of the Tatar! But we have learned to live, sharing borders, with the Golden Horde. They are no longer an army on the march, but civilized rulers like ourselves, but in faith. For it is peace and prosperity that brings ever-lasting achievements to a realm. Not war, pillage and plunder." The Grand Prince looks at Ilya Repin. A clear sign, sufficient flowery talk has been heard. The advisor of diplomacy continues: "And so Suzdal yearns again for the return of those times of Kiev's fame and glory, when Orthodox Russians lived side by side, in understanding and harmony. We do not seek to enter the fray, bicker over outposts, dispute claims according to parchments that have turned to dust in monasterial libraries. Suzdal wants peace and stability across the North." Repin turns to the Moldovian: "Ieremia, tell us more of your distant homeland, one that shares the faith, but is rarely even drawn on our maps. For rich gifts you brought us, surely Moldavia must be a powerful Empire, bane of heathens and citadel of the faithful!" To the Moscovite envoy: "The Czar can rest assured, Suzdal is not here to divide Rus, but in any way possible to facilitate its unity. Your Czar's actions were well noted by the Grand Prince. Go back to Moscow and bear a message of peace and brotherhood. We shall send a personal letter soon, but for that time is needed." Adresses the Pskovian: "The Grand Prince has a hard time understanding your dialect, long has it been that he has traveled in the West or heard your fine way of speech. It will more benefitial if you confer with me. We will thus avoid any possible misunderstandings." He mimicks to Zavid to follow him to one of the side chambers.

Ieremia listened to the advisor Repin after the rather impenetrable speech of the Grand Prince. Had that man actually said anything? He gave his head a tiny shake to try and get it organized again.
"Ah, my homeland?" He sighed as he listened to Repin's description of it. "Sadly, these gifts misrepresent us. In numbers, we are even smaller than your realm here, at least from what I have seen on my journey. Probably much smaller. We do pride ourselves on being a bastion of the faithful which has now resisted even Lithuanian aggression, but for the most part our people are poor. We have been blessed with the Carpathian mountains, where we take the materials you see before you and turn them into such gifts, and we are blessed with the mouth of the Danube, allowing us a viale trade crossroads, but our people are few and nearly all must work for their daily due. Even now, a full quarter of our ancestral homeland is held by Catholic outlanders while we scramble in an attempt to raise the funds to return that province to its rightful holders. I am afraid I must disappoint you, we are neither a mighty citadel nor a bane of any, and certainly no Empire. But we believe in making the most of what one has in hand, and such are the gifts we bring."

Side Room, Prince's Palace, Vladimir Zavid Levivitch followed the Grand Prince's beckoning and came with him into a side chamber. His hands behind his back and his head slightly bowed he entered the room. Somewhat relieved to be speaking now in private, he cast what could only be guessed would be an appreciative glance to the Prince before beginning, "If you may my Prince... Our Rodina is in a time of crisis... I must be both bold and blunt." He paused before continuing. He was realizing how much he not only didn't want to be here, but detested having to play the diplomat. Zavid was not a diplomat, so he would not talk like one now, but as a man, "Our faith, the one greatest binding agent in all of Rus is in great peril. Princes in Smolensk, White Russia and Kiev move for their independance, but seem to be threatened in this most righteous goal by not only their oppressors, but the Moscovites and even Germans. Pskov-Novgorod lies under direct threat of war from a zealot in Lithuania, who shall no doubt be supported once more from Moscow. In all this lies Vladimir-Suzdal. Your principality is of great strategic importance to us in times of war and commercial in times of peace. The reason for both of these conclusions is the situation of your lands in such proximity to our colonies on the Syevernaya Dvina, the Mezen and east to the Urals. In times of war, Vlaidmir could possibly be a staging point for raids into our colonies, and in peace she could act as a valuable outlet for goods passing out of the east and north." Zavid sighed and he turned sincere eyes that seemed to make his face somewhat soften up to the Grand Prince Yuri, "My Prince, I come seeking word that Vladimir-Suzdal shall not take part in any military action against Pskov-Novgorod. We would not be so bold to expect military support from your realm in case of unjust attacks upon our own. But my Czarina wishes a formal declaration that states that neither of our realms shall enter into agressions against the other. We also wish to offer our friendship. And while the sentiment itself holds a value of its own, the military and more importantly economic boons of being a friend of Pskov-Novgorod are great. As you may know, more commerce passes through the cities of Pskov and Novgorod than any other city in Russia. Merchants from around the known world can be found on Novgorod streets, the greatest single trading center in all of Northern and Eastern Europe. Her golden domes shine brightly once again my Prince, shine with fortitude, wealth and glory. All things brought to her once more under the leadership of the Polotovskis, and if I may be so bold more directly by Grand Princess Mina Andreyevna than any other soul. Friendship brings ties my Prince, and being tied to the most powerful economic force in the region can be nothing but beneficial." Zavid's lips curled in something of a smile, one that hinted of pride. Though his weathered, dignified face soon took its normal appearance once more, "However I am here in your service for the duration of my stay my Prince. Tell me, are there any matters you wish me to elaborate upon further?"

The Grand Prince, Ilya Repin and the Pskovian envoy confer in the side chamber. That is, Zavid spoke what he had on his tongue. For a while, he looks at the Grand Prince and Advisor of Diplomacy. Minutes must have passed, yet both (Grand Prince and Repin) do not say a word. It is as if they were thinking. Finally, the merchant-pioneer turned diplomat thinks, they looked at each other. Yuri V. simply mimicks with his hand for Ilya to answer the revelations. Repin speaks to the Pskovian:
"We have heard your words and judged them carefully too. The Grand Prince is displeased that once again seeds of fracticide have found fertile ground in Rus. Time when brother against brother, in custom, language and faith turn their daggers. Seeking help from heathens beyond the ancient homes of the Rodina. Your speech advises caution, yet action. Your words bear a message of peril! And so is our opinion of the situation too, dear sir. Yet joining sides, choosing alliances. This all will only hasten our mutual destruction. Turn Rus ripe for invaders. Invaders from whatever quarter of the world they shall spawn from. Rus is ringed by people not taking kindly to our faith, to our language, to our customs. We live in peace now, but we should not arge amongst ourselves. The Grand Prince has listened to your words, he has read the words from Muscowy. The rivalry..." The Grand Prince suddenly raises his hand, and Ilya Repin tactuflly bows his head and steps back. The Grand Prince speaks himself!: "Indeed. Rus is in danger. We must unite. We must unite, so that we are no longer a playground of the powerful." Repin resumes to speak as the Grand Prince takes his seat. "Well said my liege. Hence Zavid, go back to Pskov and deliver this message to your lady: Suzdal seeks to reunite the scattered principalities of Rus, in an alliance of common understanding, mutual protection. Suzdal shall never draw sword against fellow Christians! That is our aim, that is what the ancient city of Vladimir seeks! Rest assured, our envoy shall speak the same very language in Moscow, in Tver, in Moldova." Zavid is afterwards sent to Pskov with furs aplenty and a small armed escort. As the personages file out of the side chamber, Ilya Repin notices the Moldovan envoy. He beckons him to come closer and speaks so: "Winds of change have long howled over the vast tayga. The scattered principalities of proud and ancient Kiev left to their own. Tell your duke one thing though; No longer shall Russians slay Russians. No longer shall others profit from disunity. The memories of sacred Kiev have sprung in Vladimir. Mother Rus will gather all her children and guide them to glory past!" Last edited by Ladislav; 20-02-2004 at 15:48. |

The ambassador from Tver arrives in Vladimir to speak with the Grand Prince of Suzdal. He is an old man with long white hair. The man walks with a limp from an old war wound and coughs frequently. He approaches Grand Prince Yuri. "Your Highness. Thank you for your invitation. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Mikhail Ivanovich, Appanage Prince of Torzhok. I am here to represent Tver and Grand Prince Boris. We are concerned about the hostile relations between Muscovy and Pskov-Novgorod. There is also a Holy Synod taking place in Constantinople that we are interested in. Third, we are trying to learn about the Russian rebellions taking place in Lithuania. I hope our conversation will be productive and beneficial." Prince Mikhail bowed again to the Grand Prince.

As Ilya Repin finsihed talking to the Moldovan, he listens to news from Tver. Both his face and that of the Grand Prince begin to shine with pleasure. Dark clouds have left their faces.Repin, barely able to control himself shakes the hand of the envoy of Tver and tells him:
"Yes! All is not yet lost. News of great importance you have brought us! Messages of hope! Tver speaks the language of Suzdal! Welcome to Vladimir, brother. Brother indeed, for we are like such in thought! Tells us more! Share with us the way Tver would remedy this pitiful situation across the once-mighty Rus." The Grand Prince and Repin carefully listen to the envoy of Tver.

Prince Mikhail smiles and nods at Grand Prince Yuri. "We have no solutions yet, Your Highness. We have only questions. The big issue is the rivalry between Muscovy and Pskov-Novgorod. Grand Prince Boris is hoping to speak with ambassadors from both countries. Tver has always been wary of Muscovy. Their alliance with Lithuania concerns us. Also, we hear that Muscovy is fighting Russian rebels in Lithuania. We do not know much of Pskov-Novgorod. Hopefully, we will learn."

Ilya Repin replies to the ambassador from Tver:
"So you are no wiser than us. Your wariness of Moscovy you must cast aside. We should all forget words spoken in rage, many years past. Instead we should forge new bonds. Bonds of brotherhood! Let us slowly work in unison, tell your Grand Prince, to bring the two mighty principalities, Pskov and Muscovy, closer together. But remember, leave your prejudice behind you. Mother Rus shall take a new breath once our labour is done."

Right Outside Vladimir Zavid Levivitch's horse came to a halt at his command, obliging the small embassy that accompanied him to Vladimir to do the same. With a muffled snort Zavid's horse made a half circle around so that Zavid's torso was facing the ancient city. He spoke aloud to one of the men with him, "Vladimirivitch, return to Pskov with all haste. Inform the Czarina of what has transpired here today. I am sure she shall be most pleased. Viktor and Roman... " He now spoke to two guards who had accompanied the embassy, "I wish you to escort Vladimirivitch to Pskov. I am leaving back to the north, back to Zavidgrad. It seems my budding little town is about to become a holding point for another determined drive east... Regardless, fare well on your journey comrades." Obediently the two guards ushered their horses over to Vladimirivitch who nodded his respects to Zavid, "Fsyevo Debrava, fair well." With a reserved shout and a nudge to the ribs Vladimirvitch's horse began leading the way west, the two guards not far behind him. Zavid cast yet another glance over to the ancient city, one time capitol of Rus. Things were most fortunate indeed, it is of just such a revival of Rus unity, mutual defense and support that the Czarina had spoken of many times. Though there was a large problem to it all, one that he wondered at the resolution of. The crimes of Moscovy, the threats of both Moscow and Lithuania, Moscow's refusal and insult over the question of the Kolskeey Peninsula. These all stood very glaringly in the way of further cooperation between the two gravitating powers of Rus. Levivitch sighed, his breath coming up before his face. He shook his head in a display of some sort of resignation. After all, he was not a diplomat, his place in all this was over, why should he trouble himself over it? The amount of grain stores in Zavidgrad however... Yes, it was time to return home.

A letter arives from Moscow,
"Grand Prince Yuri V. of Suzdal, The idea that you wish to see a united Rus is comforting, but that is still a dream away I believe. Ontop of that, part of your letter worries me, you have listened to words from Pskov about the current "situation". Well, that is only one side of the story, and knowing the lies of the Princess of Pskov I doubt it will be in the same light that I cast upon it. I should hope you offer Moscow the same opportunity to explain its view of the situation, and the betrayl of Orthodoxs against us, as you have Pskov. Once it is known how both sides feel I am sure it will be easier to come to terms. written by his own hand, Vasily II, Czar of the Rus, Grand Prince of Muscovy" |

A letter arrives from the Southeast.
"Greetings, Yuri, Grand Prince of Suzdal. We have noticed that you have once again returned from seclusion, and have become active in global affairs. The Horde would like friendly relations with the Principality of Suzdal, as the war brought upon us by Moscow and the Tyrants in Lithuania was not our own doing, and I note that any Orthodox Christian under Mongol rule isbe much more free to practice their religion than those under papist Lithuanian despotism. Dictated during his travel to Kazan, Orda Khân Akahan of the Great Mongol Empire Great Khan of the Golden Horde Son of Baraq, Descendant of Genghis" Last edited by Friedrich II; 21-02-2004 at 16:15. |
