The Union snatching defeat out of the hands of victory

Playing as the CSA during the 1861 scenario. Two odd things occured. The first was after a clouple years of fierce fighting the Union went into a defensive mode. The Union stationed forces along the entire border of between 10,000 to 40,000 forces: this despite I had only three field armies to defend the entire South. A year and a half past where the North never attacked. Weird!, but when the attack came I was being overwhelmed. Eventually, I was pushed back to Southern Georgia and Florida. Suddenly, the North offers peace where they demand only Beaver (a little province above Texas) and one part of Tennesse. That's it! on the verge of victory and reuniting the nation, the North does an about-face. This is a flaw. The AI needs to know it's okay go for total victory.

This might depend on the aggression settings you chose at the start of the game. Also in the EU games each country had a defined ferocity rating which determined how far a country would go to achieve victory. You might want to go through the country files and check if it is still in.

i guessed the fighting went on so long that the "union annexes the south" event were put to sleep, don't worry they will be on you again...and again....and again...

whats even funnier is when the union outnumbers you 5-1 and they leave a way to washington open, and you caputre washington and then philadelphia, then an event pops up and you choose to make union peace for all the border states, and the union accepts the event.

I had this open corridor to Washington as well. The Union shifted close to 150,000 troops towards the West abandoning the capital.

When I had my Civil War "experience" the aggresion and difficulty were set on normal.

What the AI needs is a new variable like

Code:
pathological_hatred = { CSA }
So that the AI will never accept peace with that nation unless 1) Peace is imposed on it (utter defeat), 2) their own nation collapses or 3) that nation is exterminated.

Something along these lines sounds like the right direction.

Basically.. the normal peace AI is turned off in the Civil War if warscore is <90... Which was a mistake... Now its turned off until past all event triggers for the CW ends.

So if the change is made and I am the CSA, and I completely occupy all of the USA in 1863, but the AI chooses to refuse the "negotiated peace" event, will I have to wait more than two years for a WP? Or am I misunderstanding?

No.. if you control them completely, they'll always accept..
