The rapid advance against minimal forces in the west of Hata's line had left what was thought to be a safe left flank after the previous Soviet troops in Kerch had been destroyed.

jun12480000gr1.jpg

The recent arrival of Field Marshall Timoshenko and two Infantry divisions tested Mj. General Kawamura's defences. Timoshenko was particularly good on the offensive and against hilly terrain, whereas Kawamura was adept at defence. The battle could have been very close if Hata had not decided to force the issue.

jun12480700gr1.jpg

The arrival of Sakai and Obata at 0700 hours swung the battle Kawamura's way very swiftly and Kerch would soon be empty of Soviet troops once more.

The large concentration of Red Army troops to Higashikuni's north led to the possibility that he might have to slog his way forwards to achieve his objectives and to obtain an airfield that could allow Dive bombers to assist him.

jun12481600gr1.jpg

A tactical blunder by his opposite number led to an opportunity to quickly force a decisive victory. All but two of the divisions that were defending Kuybyshev had moved east and allowed Higashikuni to launch a massive assault towards the province with nineteen divisions. The defences crumbled in two hours leaving Higashikuni to race towards the vital airbase with his Armour.

All of the Japanese fleets had reached the relative safety of Attu when Genda again encountered Hart and his modern Carrier Task Force.

jun12482000gr1.jpg

He was sighted to the north east of Attu in the East Aleutian Basin and his current course had him heading south which would put him in strike range of Attu's port. Ozawa would have little choice but to attack Hart if he chose this option. Genda was ordered to halt his attacks when one of his squadrons became severely damaged which would leave Ichimaru to keep an eye on Hart.

Kuniaki was still having little success with his attempts to infiltrate three new Allied Countries with his agents but his research teams were at least still active.

jun13480000gr1.jpg

Mitsubishi Jukogyo informed him of the completion of their project into Frontline Vehicle Repair Shops and Kuniaki decided to allow them to continue along this path to advance towards Semi-Modern Repair.

The offensive in the southern Soviet Union was progressing very well but there were some signs of problems ahead for Hata and his forces in the Middle East.

jun13480400gr1.jpg

Itabana's rest period would be short lived after a modern Militia division began to repeatedly attack Kawashima in el-Arish which was quickly wearing down his organisation. Itabana would put an end to this harassment during two days of bombing before he would be allowed to try and rest again.

jun13480900gr1.jpg

Hata was concerned with his small forces chances of capturing the territory they were being asked to and a report from an overflight of the eastern Mediterranean by Watanabe did nothing to lessen his worries. The Americans had deposited a large force in Alexandria which could easily rout his own troops, or they could decide to invade behind his lines on any of the beaches along the coast. No new troops were due to arrive until June 28th when a full Infantry corps would complete it's re-depoyment to Hims. Hata could do little but wait and react to events.

East Asia Army Headquarters. Semipalatinsk, Soviet Union.

Terauchi had not been given much trouble for quite some time as his forces advanced almost at will through the central Soviet Union. There were some enemy troops on his flanks but nothing had shown up to cause a problem until now.

jun13481000gr2.jpg

Three Soviet divisions arrived in Novosibirsk directly in the path of General Sakai who was given no option but to halt his advance.

jun13482200gr1.jpg

The enemy had no intention of sitting still and attacked south towards Mj. General Katakura's division in Pavlodar. He was ordered to withdraw towards Semipalatinsk as Terauchi gave the necessary orders to halt the enemy force before it caused even more trouble by attacking his tiring troops elsewhere.

jun14480000gr1.jpg

Twenty four hours after they had reached Novosibirsk death arrived for the Red Army troops in the shape of Shimoyama and his Close Air Support group. His own wing had already been equipped with the newer Turbojet aircraft and his entire group had been resting during the upgrade process with no targets in range. Entering the range of Dive bombers from Semipalatinsk was not a wise thing to do.

Hart had continued with his previous course when he was spotted by Ichumaru's patrolling Naval bombers on June 14th.

jun14480700gr2.jpg

He had decided not to port strike Attu Island but had altered course to the east after one of his Light Carriers, the USS Cabot, had been badly damaged by Genda and Ichimaru. Hart would vanish after this sighting.

The southern most tip of Hata's sphere of influence was the Saudi Arabian Peninsula where some of his troops had been advancing.

jun14480100gr1.jpg

Hirota captured the final enemy province along the peninsula when he arrived in Aden.

jun14481000gr1.jpg

Another advance on Hata's left flank allowed for a cross river assault to try and outflank Rostov. General Koiso led the attack from Tikhoretsk as Lt. General Honda advanced towards Konstatinovsk from Salsk. There would be no air support as Hata would not risk his bombers this far north but Koiso and Honda would not need any further assistance.

There would inevitably be some counter attacks by Soviet forces and their ever dwindling numbers almost guaranteed that the leadership of such forces would be of the highest quality. Higashikuni had some very good commanders amongst his own forces as well.

jun14482100gr1.jpg

Lt. General Kuribayashi had only recently arrived in Zhezkazgan when he came under attack from Red Army troops commanded by Field Marshall Rokossovsky. The Soviet commander had the advantage of numbers and more modern troops whilst Kuribayashi had more experienced divisions under his command.

jun14482200gr1.jpg

Higashikuni did not wait before providing assistance as he ordered General Asaka to attack two of the four divisions assailing Kuribayashi in Chelkar. Victory in this battle would be swift and give some hope that Kuribayashi would hold but he would be overpowered by the more modern Infantry at Rokossovsky's disposal.

jun15481300gr1.jpg

Rokossovsky would not reach Zhezkazgan as he too had strayed too close to Semipalatinsk.

0800 June 15th 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Grozny, Soviet Union.

Hata had just completed his long journey west and had arrived in Grozny when he received a report from his Middle Eastern forces. He did not like what he read.

jun15480800gr1.jpg

Brazilian Armour had landed behind his most advanced division and had occupied Gaza. Kawashima was dangerously exposed and could easily be cut off. Hata ordered Itabana into the air to try and protect his small force.

jun15481300gr2.jpg

By the time he arrived at 1300 hours a second Brazilian division had already landed to support the invasion which expanded still further four hours later as a third division came ashore. There was no way Itabana could destroy all three divisions before they could recover from their landing and there was the possibility of the massed American divisions in Alexandria also adding to invading force. Maybe it was time to withdraw again and destroy the enemy piecemeal as they slowly advanced through the desert. Hata was always happy to use a tried and tested method of defeating his enemies but he would wait before ordering a withdrawal.

wish you would have at least sank the light carrier. I'd bet that damn american superstack will come over to arabia pretty quick. Great advances in Steppes though!!

This looks like it's going to be an hot summer on all fronts. Though usually when one says "the bear has awoken" it doesn't mean that the poor critter has been woken only to be subsequently slapped around. At least it tries to put up some kind of fight.

The Allies are much more interesting. You can count yourself lucky that the invaded Gaza and not Tel Aviv or Haifa.

Regarding Hart: I guess he's headed for Samoa. Old habits die hard. :D

Wao. It seems, dunno why, that I lost some updates... you're deep in the Caucasus and in Palestine too...

My shame... Rereading at once!

My! Remble has quite a popular AAR! :D

Lt. General Kuribayashi had only recently arrived in Zhezkazgan when he came under attack from Red Army troops commanded by Field Marshall Rokossovsky. The Soviet commander had the advantage of numbers and more modern troops whilst Kuribayashi had more experienced divisions under his command.

Zhezkazgan...such a far cry from Iwo Jima for Kuribayashi.

Maybe it was time to withdraw again and destroy the enemy piecemeal as they slowly advanced through the desert. Hata was always happy to use a tried and tested method of defeating his enemies but he would wait before ordering a withdrawal.

What is he waiting for? Just leave when you still can. Remember Stalingrad, Hata?

Yikes, that Brazilian Invasion could become a problem!

Good job everywhere else though!

Or at least move him to the Red Sea coast, so some transport fleet can pick him up (if Brazilian Armour will cut him off).

If Hata remembered a battle that didn't happen, I would be very suspicious of this man.

EDIT: Okay, forget it. This is a 1944-AAR. That's what happens for playing only 1936-campaigns.

congrats on the half mil views Remble.

It's nice to see your progress, the big american stack is kinda scary though... it probably means no Suez for a while :( Or you'd need an army group to take care of it. And as all your units are both busy and overstretched I don't see how you'll pull it off. But then again you allways find a way, probably using a lot of air power.

/Krogzar

Yeah, remble is definitely safe in the middle east as long as he has eight bombers there. Worst case is retreating to Damascus and its airbase. And that's far away from being a bad spot... from there the bombers - as already shown - can destroy everything that lands west of it or marches towards it from the Suez channel.

Holding Suez could be difficult: The bombing zones are a bit messy around there (for the defender) and these "behind the lines" landings will happen as long as the AI has transport ships.

But I think, we finally have an answer to where the huge US Yemen/Oman-stack went a few months ago: Alexandria.

The time will come for Brazil, too and they`re not going to find any soldier to defend their homeland if they continue to waste their divisions in Middle East :D

When are you gonna pass Kerch Strait? my people of Crimea are waiting for you. save them from that monster

and congrats for 5.0E5 views, i hope we will see the world colored with yellow before you reach 1 million view :D

Japan was annexed in February 1945 and the rest of the thread is world+dog mocking poor Remble for his sub-par performance. :D

(Just kidding...) :p

genbrad - Unfortunately the badly damaged CVL could lead to that fleet sitting in a port for several months while it repairs, if the AI plays by its normal rules.

Sokraates - The Allies like Gaza for some reason. I am not going to complain too much about their choice of landing zones :)

Phax, alan_le_cowboy, zdlugasz - Thank you :)

Kurt_Steiner - I think you lost more than a few updates. I suppose you have some excuse as you are writing numerous very good AAR's of your own right now :D

Nathan Madien - Kuribayashi has led a very busy life in this AAR. He has been on all active fronts I think and is certainly one of the best commanders Japan has. I have this little no redeploying out of trouble rule and Kawashima is in enough trouble that he can't get out by walking so he sets himself up to be some sort of hero. A dead one or a live one remains to be seen.

Maj. von Mauser - Thanks. You notice it is nearly always the Brazilians? I am going to have a word with them about it at some point though. Maybe I should transfer the Brazilian AI to the U.K. and U.S.

zdlugasz - Trying to pick him up with only a weak CA Division to provide escort is not going to happen in that part of the World :)

Krogzar - Thank you :) I do usually find a way but I couldn't save Truk at the beginning of this AAR so I can't always win.

Thurak - The bombers give me a nice comfort zone but even they cannot kill too many divisions that quickly. Remember they are also a little damaged from bombing Port Said. I think you are right that those American troops probably came from Mukalla, but there should be more than there are in Alexandria.

harezmi - Thank you :) I tried several times to cross to Kerch but after it lets me do it initially it alters to make me march around within 24 hours. I guess the Soviet's Black Sea fleet is determined to stop me for now.

thatguy - Roughly half are 1945 standard there is still a long way to go to upgrade them. The other half should get to 1945 standard fairly fast though, after the CAS upgrades, as they can get to 1947 type already.

Hilscher - Thank you very much and welcome aboard :)

UncleAlias - Shhh ... you will spoil the plot ;)

Inner Circle - Thank you :)

Thank you all for your continued support as this AAR passes a remarkable number of views. We have only really just started of course so there is plenty more to go :D

Update to follow ...
