Achievements disabled - what does this message mean

Playing my first game (single player mode), saved the initial start and quit after a long time browsing around etc. Later when I was about to reload the save I saw this message.. "Save game belongs to another user or is edited. Achievements will be disabled". What does it mean? What achievements is it referring to?

So why am I getting this message? I mean, I haven't edited the game and I'm the only user? (Not that I care about Steam achievements anyway).

Carrying on from that question, I have the same message on my save games, but I haven't done anything to screw with the save, and I don't know what the whole save game belongs to another user means, does that mean steam user? Or is it because I haven't been saving the game onto the cloud?

Achievments only work in ironman. It would probably be nice if the message just said that instead of accusing you of cheating.

I think you need to play iron man mode to unlock achievments.

As I recall it is a bug - It should go away if you run an integrity check and restart Steam (You'll still need to run Ironman mode to actually unlock them though)

No, it wasn't an Ironman game, just a normal basic start.

It's probably just because the game isn't in ironman mode, but the message is the same as the one from EU3.
