Bohemia. All Emphasis on the French-Danish war.

7 Year French-Danish war, 1543-1550.

War over Amiens & Jylland.

September, 1543, France declares war together with her allies, Navarra, Genoa, Savoy and the Papal States, on Denmark (currently w/o allies). The obvious key is to take back Amiens take previously, and probably to maintain control of Jylland. Denmark this time is without a key ally: England. This will make it very difficult for her to wage war, unless Spain decides to interfere.

On October 7th, 23,000 Frenchmen cross into Sjaelland and lay siege. the Danish capital of Copenhagen. Most probably in response to this, Spain declares war on the French alliance only two months later.

Battle at Copenhagen, Dec 30th, 1543.

On December 30th an important battles takes place that forces this war into a long drawn out conflict. A massive Danish assault flottila arrives at besieged Copenhagen, with over 70,000 men. Just as the city is about to fall, the Danes attack the helpless 19,000 Frenchmen routing them completley sending them westwards back into Jylland. Casualties are very high on both sides, 5,000 Danes dead and wounded, 3,000 Frenchmen dead and wounded.
---

During this time a combined army of 60,000 Savoians and Frenchmen assault Danish Amiens, between Jan and March, 1544. The Danish garrison capitulates on March 3rd. Meanwhile the Spanish armies are using southern France as a thorough fare into northern Italy. The French allies are on constant retreat against vastly superior Spanish armies, in Genoa, Helvetia and Bolognia. Helvetia is successfully defend against the allies, a long with Bolognia (captured in earlier wars), whilst Genova, the capital of Genoa falls to the Spanish, May 20th, 1544. Followed by Torino (capital of Savoy), stormed by 80,000 Spaniards, after an unsuccessful relief effort. Main alliance army composed of 60,000 Frenchmen and Savoians is still on its long march from Amiens. Once it arrives most of the losses are reversed almost immediately. Sep, 1544, the Savoian capital is recaptured by its own armies a long with Zurich by a French force in the same month. Besancon, French Comte, falls Nov 8th to the French. This leads to a separate peace between Spain and Savoy, a status quo in exchage for 94d to Spain in indemnities.

In the same year, Navarra is annexed by the Spanish. No help is lent from the French or other allies. Though by Dec, 1544, the Bay of Biscayne is almost completley controlled by French warfleets, after several victorious skirmishing battles against the Spanish.

In January, 1545, Spain and France agree to a peace, France pays 250d in indemnities. Now it can get back to the conflict with Denmark.

October, 1544, Genovan fleets blockade the pass between French Julland and Ostlandet. Nov 20th, the blockade is partially broken by Danish warships, however the victory is not complete. Between Jan-Sep, 1546 the blockade is temporarily broken, but the Danes are now exhausted with few supplies left. This will lead to a shocking coastal invasion by the French in a short time. May, 1549, a major French sea invasion occurs into Skane. 12,000 Frenchmen settle down to a siege of Lund. Seas are completley controlled by French alliance fleets. On February 15th, 1550 Lund capitulates to the French. Danes are utterly exhausted. Despite this French moves into Sjaelland are unsuccessful. In August, 1550, Skane is annexed by the French. Amiens is also recovered. The Danes are utterly defeated. Why the Danes were unwilling to invade Jylland is a mystery to me ..

Thaks for additional AAR insight Sap.
Since Spain often seems to have the highest victory point total, do they have an inherent advantage or is it perhaps just coincindence?

That was an interesting war, indeed. I was also interested to see China on the scoring list. How is it determined which nations get on the list? Highest score in total, or is there some other criteria? If highest score and China is on the list, does that mean they are probably conquering other nations around them? Do Asian/American, etc. nations fight each other in addition to fighting European colonization attempts?
