The only reason the French and the USA attacked was because of the Fascists' imperialistic warmongering policies. Now that our reputation is being restored we will be far safer then we were under the fascists.

Juan Rivera

Bollocks. The French attacked us during ademocratic government as well and our reputation was cleaned when we released the annexed states.

The French attacked demanding the Caribbean Islands which the Free State conquered when the french attacked during the Fascist regime. The French hostility is a carryover from the events of the Fuente regime. It may be a good idea to seek a diplomatic solution with the French and possibly release these Islands to them or to a third party such as Haiti.

Juan Rivera

The french attacked twice, Señor Rivera. Once during the fascist governments and again during this democracy. But you should remember that the island of Martinique was siezed by the Chilean Free State lead by ex-president de Conti, and that the French striked first without provocation.

Today we conmemorate the death of the great war hero General Hidalgo. He was a great man and his deeds in the battlefield have not been forgotten, but the war veterans of those battles have been. I ask the presidential candidates to remember all of the men who fought proudly for their nation in the fascist wars, and who were forced to leave the army when most of the armies were disbanded. An entire generation of war veterans has been completly forgotten by the government, and the gains they made with blood and steel were reverted and the government pretends the wars never happened. These men are having a bad time and I will fight until there is justice for them in this nation. Agitate, blackshirts!

Voter turnout seems low. I would urge all to use their democratic right and vote.

The 1926 Primaries: The Health of the Republic

The 1926 Primaries began with the earthshattering news that the incumbent Comunista President, Ernesto Fuentes, had suffered a heart attack. Though the President survived the cardiac episode and was reported, by his spokespeople, to be recuperating comfortably in an undisclosed Santiago hospital, rumors of his worsening health continued to circulate. The drama of the event, conveyed live into the homes of Chilean radio-owners, sent interest in the news and political programming through the proverbial roof. Estimated audience figures skyrocketed, and news coverage of the President's heart attack quickly eclipsed the previous record coverage of the 1922 Vallenar Earthquake.

The political response was much like the popular one: morbid fascination, mixed with opportunism. Factions that had already been plotting to unseat the unstable Comunista government quickly surfaced. Newcomers Palomino and Cordova challenged Liberal-party old hat Carlos Andonie III for the nomination of the "main opposition party", while the deeply divided FNT was asked to choose between recent defecter and ex-Republicano Juan Rivera and hardline pacifist Alejandro Farìas. The Comunista politburo, newly reformed by Fuentes, split after the news of the President's declining health and the more radical Varde and Serrano stepped up to impose the incumbent. The most extreme factions of the fascist wing of the Republicanos Nacionales, led by Tottenheim, deserted the party to rebel against the government and try to forcibly unseat the ailing Ernesto Fuentes.

Let us form a broad coalition of anti-Communist support. Most of the government is opposed to the Communists, and some of the more recent dogma espoused by the younger candidates speaks of revolution. Let us bring back Chile from the brink of the fall of Democracy.

Vote de Cordova to bring back freedom to Chile. Freedom of religion, freedom of citizenship, freedom of economic choice. Freedom shall bring more people to our illustrious shores, and freedom will convert them to the Chilean way of life. We must fight against the machine of control.

Chile para los chilenos.

Farias is the only true leftist non-radical presidential candidate we have, I recommend all of my leftist comrades in the FNT to support his bid for the presidency.

Communistas! Socialistas! We are the parties of the people. We see the needs of the people - our brave and victorious people. The Chilean people have woken up and cast off the chains of the past - monarchy, reactionism, fascism - to strive to better themselves and our society. Many of us have been with them through the long and at times very dangerous race. We have fought the good fight, peacefully in the legislature and aggressively in the streets - against veiled interests, petty politics, and fascist soldiers. Let us not stumble now.

We have come here to represent the people, and the people have shown their desire for a benevolent, humane government. Not a government of ineptitude or a government of tyranny, but one where every Chilean can enjoy their rights to the fullest. A government which does not stand in the way of peace and prosperity for all Chileans. It is my firm conviction that the people will get this government.

The people of Chile are dreaming again, the tragedies of the past - coups, wars, enslavement to corrupt states - are gone, the tragedies of the present will be solved. Chileans are strong, brave against all threats, and free. They will not back down, not surrender this dream to go back to the field of nightmares - it is simply a question of whether we will join them. The people of Chile will get their dreams, in the end. Whether it is by our work for them, our reforms and projects to help Chile and our votes in the Congresso against tyrannical and backward laws, or by their own doing, is our choice. I cannot speak for how long the Chilean's heart can stand waiting, but when it can no longer wait, the tide will sweep away everything hindering it.

Because of this, let us work together - pragmatically, level headed, but most importantly working now - to better the lives and freedoms of the Chilean people. Now, not later - not testing the patience of the common man in dogmatic bickering or weak willed delay. Let us join with the dream of the Chilean people.

My policies again: (Anti-Military, Pluralism, Laissez Faire, Free Trade, Full Citizenship)

I have a suspicion my candidacy is a moot point due to the initial vagueness.

Regardless, I re-urge the non Communistas to join together in coalition. Consider the strength we have as a unified Democracy block, and consider the weakness each individual party will face without joining together.
