Ok, so im finishing my game as Germany its just turned 1900 and Austria-Hungary is about to fall out of GP status, so i will sphere them. my question is, does Austria petition to join germany if it falls from gp status anyway, and if so, will Austria-Hungary petition to join me or does Hungary need to be free or something?

If I recall correctly, A-H only joins if you do the three hurrahs event.

I've tried it your way and it doesn't work.

Hungary HAS TO BE released. (1 region is enough)

you guys sure hungary needs to be formed?
if you do 3 hurrahs, hungary doesn't have to exist. not sure about after germany is formed

A little bit off topic, but if you force a complete A-H to release a province to the currently non-existant Hungary, is there an event or something that will make A-H have their name changed back to Austria?

Sorry, this is a very poorly worded question, I hope it's understandable.

I don't think so: Sardinia-Piedmont can lose Serdegna and its name doesn't change to Piedmont. The USA's same doesn't change if it's reduced to a single state.

I know exactly what you mean. It's not just a name change when you become A-H, it's actually a new country (with a new tag: KUK). I do not think there is anything that will change A-H back to Austria. However, you can still release Austria and also free Austria from A-H. I wish Paradox would put in a specific event/decision that should Austria lose Hungary, it will change back to Austria. Oooh! I just had an idea though! In a great war, have a bunch of people dismantle A-H. You can free all the states, but I'm not sure if it will still have Vienna as its capital.

i gave up getting austria in my SOI after they become austria-hungary, so i used the event to form germany, but now after i formed i became quite powerfull and can soon get SOI on them.

so does anyone now if the will join my germany?

I switched to Russia, i know its cheating ill get over it. and freed a single province with Hungarian cores. Anyways, back to playing Germany, now Hungary is free and i sphere A-H will it petition to join me as Germany? :) because i know Austria will on its own because ive seen it do so.

I got to 1890 and Austria is still called Austria, not Austria-Hungary. I already formed Germany through "Three Hurrahs for Germany" decision event. So if manage to reduce Austria to secondary power status and then bring them into my sphere of influence, will Austria become part of Germany then?

I dont think so? I tried doing the same thing but nothing happened in Austria.

For reference, in my game the Hungarians rebelled and defeated the Austrians. There is now Hungary (with much of Romania, Slovenia etc) and Austria with Austria and a bit of North Italy (Tyrol) and Croatia. (IF Austria had joined me I would have likely looked like Greater Germany in 1943 after Socialist Italy gave up Tyrol to Germany. Without, of course, the parts of Poland the Germans would annex)

I should mention once Hungary ceded Austria was just called Austria.

KUK is a rather historical abbreviation for Austria-Hungary.

In a game I freed Hungary from Austria. Do you know what happened? Austria switched to Austria-Hungary. Now that was mighty odd. The even should check if Hungary exist.

It probably wouldn't be toooooo hard to mod something like that in. Maybe something like:

trigger = {
tag = KUK
exists = HUN

Then with the effect being tag change to Austria and a MTTH of one month or something quite small.

Apologies for the bad modding, I actually don't do much modding, Just trying to pick it up as I go.

In nearly all my games Austria becomes Austria-Hungary, and they will ask to join you. if you sphere them give them a while and they will ask to join you. but if you sphere A-H you need to make sure that Hungary is free and they need only one province.

Thanks will note that, though I am not too sure what would be the best way to permanently knock Austria out of Great Power status. If I do it by smashing them in a war, I will have to wait 5 years before being able to influence them, and Austria could regain their Great Power status in those 5 years.

In my experience, 2 wars with assert hegemony, humiliation and add to sphere early enough will do that.
I actually find it easier to form Greater Germany. If you don't want the rest of non-German portion, you can release them later on stage by stage, which has the added benefit of reducing infamy.
