Well, a very quick update(that is excellent), and a very well made one(good idea of a Enviado del Congreso, about the War of Secession, and the little Index Card with the image give more flavor), that was increbible, you trully surprise and polish yourself with this one.

In History and game term in general: Nani te?!, The Confederates are winning the war!(and with the Ahistorical start much more, in OTL the secession was a total crisis and even shout voices than they shouldn't left then secede peacefully but later in a attack agains fort summer, who was federal property and make an extremly without equal loophole in the U.S costitution means war against an unrecgonized foreing power, and that was the high morale in the Union... who doesn't exist because they here shoot the first bullet) and kicking hard the ass of the Union's Bluebellies, in fact, i expect here to win( a weak USA is a good USA,xd ) and that will help the power of the Platinean Kingdom.

Excellent update, now we want more, but we can wait, that was excellent.

P.S. Germany Unification will gonna be on road? or change radically?(not butterfliy than prove opposite) because a germany will be a natural ally if you want to recover the Islas Malvinas/Falkands Islands in the future.

Wow that was a good read, looks like the Confederacy is outsmarting the Union at every turn. Hah! I see Columbus has proven to be a decisive victory for the Confederacy... like Nivek said, this conflict in the north seems beneficial for Platinea.

Argentina eating up South America, the CSA kicking the USA's ass... this week on "Alternate History Theater" see China win the Opium War, Ethiopia become the leading industrial power, and a WC by Oman!

Nice update! And wonderful map, by the way!

How many casualties suffered both factions?

Nivek Beldo: At least at the moment it appears that the CSA have a fair chance to survive this war. The uncommon outbreak of the American Civil War was enabled by the US ai's choice not to go to war over the attack of Fort Sumter.
And indeed a weak USA will serve me better than a strong one.
We'll see how the German Unification goes, I have no idea yet.

Genusaus: Indeed the CSA ai is doing unexpectingly well. I guess the union troops have also won a few engagements but I only had the map at the end of the year (and a few CSA/USA events) to retell what happened. I'm sorry if the north looks completely dumb, but to smoothen thinks would have meant a lot more writing and a much longer update.

enf91: Yep, that's the beauty of alternate history. Everything may happen for the most improbable reason.

Serek: I'm sorry if the south appears too beefed up. I guess the north is fighting them ferociously. And we all know who has more inhabitants and the more powerful economy. I'm certain this war is far from over.

Viden: Thanks, but the map was just made on the fly (and my computer died on me making it). I found the casualty numbers in the save game they are around 500000 for the CSA and around 700000 for the USA (exact numbers will be given here as soon as I can lay hands on my external harddrive later today). But I don't know how to translate them. I don't think the Yankees have lost 0.7 million men in only six month.

EDIT:
losses = { tag = CSA value = 564.648 }
losses = { tag = USA value = 779.200 }

Libertad o Muerte! Pt. XLIII - 1862

1862header1.jpg

In February 1862 a major breakthrough was achieved in the fields of chemistry. Platinean scientists made some groundbreaking discoveries which changed the view on carbon-less molecules and how they react with one another. One of the first inventions that came from this discoveries was that of artificial fertilizer. Obviously this revolutionized the fertilizer industry and fertilizer made from Guano became almost obsolete overnight. Other inventions were soon to follow.

Fascinating!

On February 21st Moreno's aide LaPlante finally arrived in the Mexican border town of Nuevo Laredo, a contract signed by the confederate president Richard Toombs in his pocket. Meanwhile Baron Moreno hasn't been idle but founded the 'Dumont Import and Export agency' to cover up the weapon transports into the Confederacy. A preset message was wired to La Plata to inform the government that further steps may now be taken. In the following weeks and months Baron Moreno, now operating under the alias Pascal Dumont, struck deals with British and French arms dealers to deliver him with the necessary arms and ammunition to supply the confederate army. Meanwhile Captain Ramos of the 3rd Royal Marines regiment began recruiting 'specialists' from various units, all of them volunteers.
On April 4th five merchant vessels flying the French flag arrived at Nuevo Laredo bringing with them tons of ammunition and rifles as well as a dozen cannons. Well stored between all these instruments of death were 500 of the brand-new Brannigan Rifle awaiting a special duty. Next to them were stowed fifty blue uniforms. Three days later the first arms caravan began its way to Houston to hand the cargo over to confederate army officials. The voyage was full of hardships. Due to massive rainfall the roads were spilled over and then turned into mud pits. Some of the draft animals broke their leg and had to be shot. Some wagons suffered from a broken axle and makeshift repairs had to be conducted amidst the wilderness. But at least all wagons made it to Houston and delivered the much needed supplies for the confederate troops in the transmississipian theatre.
And while LaPlante was leading the caravan to Houston, Moreno lead 50 mounted men into the New Mexico territory. Once they had crossed the border into the United States Moreno gave the orders to change clothes. In a matter of minutes the appearance of a ragtag band of vagabonds and cattle drovers was replaced by a full squadron of union cavalrymen. The fifty men in blue unfurled the stars spangled banner and a regimental flag showing the colors of the 2nd US Cavalry. Thus they rode through the little town of Jefferson only 10 miles away from the Mexican border and asked the local sheriff about recent Mexican activities along the border. Then they rode back to the border and crossed it late at night. Three days later they entered the Mexican town of Santa Cruz robbed the local bank and common goods store than set both on fire and fought a brief skirmish with a column of Mexican infantry arriving from the nearby fort. For the next week and a half Moreno's men spread havoc on outlying farms and minor Mexican towns while retreating back into the New Mexico territory. Mexican troops followed them up to the border but disappointedly didn't cross it. But the Mexican government was infuriated about the Yankee raid and demanded both apologies and indemnities from the US-federal government in Philadelphia. The federal government in all honesty denied every knowledge of this incident and thus also denied any responsibility for the events in northern Mexico. The Mexican government felt heavily offended and broke all diplomatic ties with the United States. Another crisis was in the air.

In late May King Juan I. traveled to Petropolis to meet with Emperor Pedro II. in order to conduct summit talks. It was expected the main discussion points would be further economic cooperation and cooperation in the amazonas territory but instead the American Civil became focus of both monarchs interests. Due to the American Civil War and the Union's blockade of southern ports Brazil cotton industry was booming. The nation experienced an all out economic boom-time and the living standard improved within in the last half year more than in the entire decade before. The cotton fields were expanded and Dom Pedro II. had planned to build the nations first railroad to connect the hinterland cotton fields with the industrial hubs on the coast. Fearing for his industries, which were still in their infant stages, the Brazilian emperor wasn't eager to see the south back in business soon. But on the opposite he wasn't keen to side with the north due to questions of slavery. He knew would he assist the north his compatriot slaveholders would be outraged and it might even come to open rebellion. Juan I. shared Pedro II. thoughts but for the almost exact opposite of reasons. Since the beginning of the American Civil War Platinea too experienced an economic boom, but in the industrial sector, and it also received more immigrants than ever before. Juan I. preferred it if it would stay this way. Both monarchs agreed that it would best serve their interest if the war would be a long and hard one, leaving both contenders in shambles. It was secretly agreed that both nations would allow their private merchantmen free trade with both factions in order to elongate the war and to plunge both Confederacy and Union into debt.

You will conquer all of South America with Spock on your side! :rofl:

Surely he can :rofl::rolleyes:

Well another quicly update, the summer is a excellent era for that one(more with that heat wave there in Deutchland), and in general the update exploit two good actions:

First of all, the Irony who make the Yankees against the mexican in this civil war, historically(and was in ww1/mexican revolution) was backward with pancho villa(and was an rancho nor a bank) and now they have more bad fame... excellent:):rolleyes:

the second was the meeting of the two emperor, that exploit our comment about the civil war and their effect on their countries(is wise for Don Pedro not to support USA, or the slaveholders in brazil will scream, and the industrial boom in platineam) but in the future... how will react if they try to despose Don Pedro(historically was a Irony, the slaveholders elite hate the Gold Law that give total freedom to the slave... but when create the republic, they know than can make nothing against that for fear of economic presssure from Britain and the USA). that is a event for the future

In general Platinean should looks to africa or ocenia rather america for now....

Great update fella, i wait for more

Tell me you're planning to invade and colonize Spain and you'll make my day. :D

life long and prosper!

asd21593: I bet you'll be curious who will be featured together with the next steam engine breakthrough. :D

enf91: I'm sorry enf but I don't get your metaphor.

Nivek Beldo: I don't know if the scheme to bring Mexico into the war will work out, the ai does that sometimes.

Kurt_Steiner: Well Kurt I already invaded Spain during the second carlist war. But at the moment I have no interest in conquering Spain. Sorry for that. And with Chile gone and Peru almost gone I doubt there would be a Spanish intervention in Southern America as there was in our timeline.

Vojtechjan: Thank you, this is very much appreciated. Enjoy the ride on the Platinean panther.

Sudaxe: Thanks for the compliment and welcome around. How long did it take, if I may ask?

Did you ever hear the expression "he's playing you like a fiddle"? Or with any other pronouns? Maybe it's just an American-ism. I don't know the equivalent German idiom, so imagine that I had instead said something about marionettes, and you and Brazil were pulling the strings.

Due to the loss of any support in the Union Liberal it was obvious that Prime Minister Alberdí would not running on the liberal ticket. He briefly thought about running for a third term without party support but dropped the idea as this would have only splintered the Union Liberal and its voters. The struggle around the social reforms left the Partido Federal with a huge victory. The liberals weren't just beaten but humiliated and many platineans gave them the credit to enact the reforms. The liberals lost much support among the workers, both urban and rural, and an oppinion poll on New Year's Eve stated that 49.9% would vote for the Partido Federal and only 49.3% would vote for the Union Liberal. The national conventions were held this time in mid-january. And after a long and exhaustive search for a candidate to run instead of Prime Minister Alberdi and more importantly a candidate who might be able to reunify the party and to regain the public support the Union Liberal chose sitting Secretary of War, General Bartolomé Mitre the hero of the peruvian wars. The Partido Federalista answered soon by nominating former General Justo José Urquiza as their candidate, a man who was still very popular with the comon man and among the military ranks.

1862candidates.jpg

The federalists emphasized the social welfare question during their campaign, aiming to expand their support among the urban workers as well as they promised better sanitary conditions for the rural populace. But the liberals weren't challenging them on these fields but pointed out that the federalist candidate Urquiza had no experiences in actual politics but only in military affairs. Newspapers caricatured Urquiza as a screwed Napoleon ordering merchants to buy and sell goods, shouting at craftsmen that they can do better and to raise production. All the while Mitre was sold to the public as an renowned politician who had gathered lots of experience while serving as secretary of war during the last four years. This was primarily bolstered by the successfull reforms of the military Mitre had imposed during his term. While Urquiza and the federalists were trying to deny the liberal 'propaganda' none of the independent national newspapers caricatured Mitre in the same way as Urquiza, too big was the admiration for the popular war hero. While heads became more important during the elections campaign than topics they were still harshly quarreled about. Urquiza in order of trying to lose his image as an all out military charged the government's free trade policy. Urquiza argued that still too many factured goods were imported, harming Platinea's young industries a great deal. He even went further and demanded involvment of the government into industrial development, in his eyes the federal government in La Plata should begin to manage and coordinate the establishing of further factories and idustrial hubs due to the competences of the specific regions. Though these demands nearly drowned in the newspapers, the economic elites now worried about Urquiza and began to raise funds for Mitre's campaign.
But the campaigns of both parties seemed to have set off one another as the latest opinion polls on May 30th resulted in both parties still carrying 49% of the vote.

1862electionrally.jpg

In the end it all came down to the poluarity of the candidates, and became obvious that Mitre could rally more supporters and admirers than Urquiza. The Union Liberal carried 55.2% of the popular vote and achieved a solid majority in both chambers. The highly disappointed Urquiza withdrew to his manor.

Excellent updates, as usual.
I like the idea of a Brasilian - Platinean cooperation in order to prolong the American Civil War. I hope this excursion is successful.

Is a "liberation" of Central America on your agenda? Any thoughts about a naval build-up?

A Buenos Aires - Rio de Janeiro - Bogotá axis would be nice.

Rebuild the Gran Colombia!

A Buenos Aires - Rio de Janeiro - Bogotá axis would be nice.

Rebuild the Gran Colombia!

I'm Colombian, here in the Father/Motherland(I'm Still debating which gender should be the National personification of Colombia, A man like Bolivar or... Juan Valdez:rofl:, or a Women) and I considered than in this AAR very difficult to happen(unless treppe like the idea) because here we're a very authoritarian democracy.. but a Democracy(since our foundation to modern times), and the both countries are constituional monarchy... but Monarchy after that... That will be a big mistrust between both nations(more than Platinean eat two of the nations who Bolivar helps to liberate... Peru and Bolivia), that is almost imposible, in the long term we gonna be as historical... a buffer state(and the Itsmo/Panama is something i want to see here)

About the Update: Very good Update, treppe, that remember me part of the early democracy in the USA and here in my country(the two parties era), and in general, sorry for the General Justo Urquiza, he has good chance... but the black propaganda was hard against him(with that remember me something here in my country.:rolleyes::D).

well, waiting for more update about the world and the platinean economy

P.S. Viden, why you don't make an AAR here in English about a revival of the Gross-Kolumbien, AKA Gran Colombia? like that one who you abandonated in the Spanish Forum?
