@Onni_Manni: There are a few Swedish divisions in the Benelux region, but for some reason, there are much more fighting in Poland, Hungary, and outside of Austria.

@everyone: Since there are quite a lot of questions about post-syndicalist Europe, I will answer them in one post.

First, the US will allow Germany to not only retake Belgium, but also give Germany an occupation zone in France after the war is over. The Germans have fought against immense odds for about 4 years now, and deserve some part of France. However, the bulk of the country, about 80% of it, will be under US control.

Spain, Italy, and Portugal will be released as new democratic states, but America will call the shots. The pope for example, will absolutely NOT be given any political control in the new Italian republic that will be formed after the war. However, expect to see some interesting things, such as Franco being the leader of social democrat spain, since I am somewhat limited by the SPA minister files. I guess I could probably mod in a more suitable HoG though...

As for France, the areas under US control will be ceded to the exiles in Algiers, so they can form a brand new French Republic, with Petain as HoS. I will also give them the old tricolour flag, and change their map colour, as well as name.

Why change their map color? The exiles and their white look so nice on the map. Plus, there is a tradition of white being a French color... not only the traditional French war flag (the white cross on a white field, hehe :D) but also the monarchy of the restauration period that followed Napoleon's overthrow:
fr_rest.gif

It would be a fitting flag, since Petain is in a way a restored conservative monarch following an evil usurper.

Spain could get the democratic Spanish Republic ministers from vanilla, right? Somehow I think Franco would not the the candidate of choice for a US-liberated, democratic Spain :eek:o

I haven't commented in some time, but I've been reading this whenever it gets bumped. A truly marvellous AAR and a real turnaround of the US's fortunes - never in a KR game have I seen the USA be so important. And an Entente Victory! But with a twist, of course - this is not a victory for the 'old order' of autocratic Anglo-Canada and Nationalist France. No - this is a victory for the progressive forces of democracy in the West, as the Entente turned to the closest thing they had to an ally, and had to give up part of themselves to do so. Excuse me if I don't weep for them ;)

As for Spain, ideally you'd want Spanish Republican leaders from the pre-1936 governments. The Popular Front's leaders might be a little too Syndicalist in this timeline, given how the CNT-FAI ruled so successfully til its demise. Looking forward to it, whatever happens.

Re: France - I like the suggestion above of keeping the White colour and proclaiming Petain regent of a new French 'monarchy'. When you think about it, France's republics have collapsed into evil time and again - Napoleon, Napoleon III, the Third Republic (twice, the second time permanently). Perhaps the US could legitimately aid in the recreation of a French constitutional monarchy?

Why give any French territory to Germany? If they did not take it in the war, they should not be allowed to occupy it, and from the looks of things, you will retake most if not all of France before that happens.
@Leviathan that is the flag of house Bourbon, so it would not be appropriate for Petain to use it since he is not of that house.

Yes but who says it can't be used by a regent Petain, for the vacant throne?

Like Miklos Horthy, regent for the vacant throne of Hungary, who also didn't take the Habsburg CoA off the Hungarian flag even though he was not the monarch.

@Karaiskandar: It will not be long now.

@salidas16: No kidding. I started with with no IC, 26% dissent, a 5 division army, an obsolete airforce, and a pathetic navy that was only good for slapping around latin american countries. Now here I am, with London, Madrid, and Paris in US hands, and Rome soon to follow. No one will stop the march of freedom!

@ColonelIronboot: Nah. Don't have enough troops up north to go to the Balkans, plus the Germans and Hungarians are marching relatively fast there, so It will come under Mitteleuropan control.

@ everyone else: I am still very hesitant to reinstate a French monarchy, even a constitutional one. I have not read anything about Petain being a monarchist, and all of France's monarchs all seem to either get exiled or get their heads cut off. Therefore, I will stand by my decision to reinstate a French republic, as well as change their flag and map colour to one of my choosing. (I HATE that bright vichy white!)

Syndicalist Austria surrenders. With most of the country back under their control, the Germans decide, to the loud protests of the Austrian monarchy, to directly annex Austria as a new state in the German Empire. What little was left of the old Austrian empire has now been stamped out permanently.

Outside of Dijon, US forces run into soldiers of the Russian Empire marching towards the south, finally linking up the German/US frontlines against the French Syndicalists.

German soldiers land in Sicily, easily overrunning local Italian defense units.

The navy's brand new South Dakota class battleships complete their sea trials and are ready for service, however, they will not be committed to combat until their escorting destroyers are completed.

The final ride of the French Commune's battered navy. 3 carriers, 1 battleship, and 1 battlecruiser are destroyed by Halsey's task force, with no American losses other than some damage to the Oriskany, Valley Forge, and the Ulysses S Grant.

US troops launch the final offensive in Italy, smashing Italian forces all along the front.

In response, the Italians launch a final, desperate assault on US troops in Anzio. The small US mechanized infantry force garrisoning the city withdraws to prevent heavy casualties.

US commanders decide that now is the time to finally take the city of Rome. 200,000 US troops storm Rome, marching all the way to the Colisseum and storming the final Italian stronghold in what used to be Vatican city. (which had since been sacked by the syndicalist government and turned into a "museum of bourgeois lies") Rome's defenders quickly surrender en masse, and the city is secured.

The rest of the Italian army on the Italian mainland is quickly rounded up and crushed by the US army, first, at the city of Taranto...

And finally, in Potenza. (which had been under my control, but then this big force of Italian divisions just suddenly popped up once US troops moved in. )
potenzasurrender.png

What is left of Italy's forces are now being cleared out of the Balkans by Mitteleuropan troops. Zagreb and Sarajevo have already been liberated from the Syndicalists, as whats left of the Italian army begins to surrender in droves to German and Hungarian troops.

So what's next? Mitteleuropa, Japan, or a breathing spell? Inquiring minds want to know.
Going by your previous statements, I'm assuming you've pretty much reached your stop line in Europe, except
possible trying to get Sicily.

Well a conflit against the Japanese is very likely, but I'm not that sure that war against Mitteleuropa is a good idea.
Europe needs peace and prosperity.

@serutan: A little bit of a breather, then it will be time to face the greater east asian sphere and the Empire of Japan.

@salidas16: Yup, thats the plan.

@Karaiskandar: Europe will get peace and prosperity...under America's patronage of course. I already have a very good idea on how to start an Entente-Mitteleuropan war, and I think you guys will like it quite a bit....

By the end of 1944, this is all that is left of the Commune of France, a large pocket of resistance in Belgium and the north east.
frenchremnantsa.png

US forces launch their final offensive of the war, clearing out the channel ports of enemy resistance. With the end obvious, even to the most fanatical of the Communes troops, many formations either scatter, or surrender on sight to the first German or American soldiers they run into.

Americans go to the polls for the nation's 1944 Presidential Election. John Nance Garner, who can no longer run due to the 2 term limit, passes the torch of the Democratic party leadership to Missouri Senator Harry S Truman. With the endorsement of who many Americans call "the 20th Century's Lincoln", Truman sweeps his Republican rival, Thomas Dewey, in the electoral college votes, winning a massive landslide victory.

The new Federal Cabinet after the 1944 election. Harry Truman makes a number of changes, such as appointing George C Marshall as head of the Joint Chiefs, General Omar Bradley as commander of the United States Army, Admiral Chester Nimitz as head of the United States Navy, as well as appointing brand new secretaries of State, Intelligence, and Industry.

The future of air warfare. Although too late to take any part in the war, brand new P-80 "shooting star" multirole fighter aircraft come into service, with several divisions already being equipped with the brand new, futuristic and heavily armed fighters.

US troops are approached by a small convoy of cars outside of Calais. When they stop at an American roadblock, they are found to contain the main governing politburo of the Commune of France.
frenchdefeat.png

After arriving at the headquarters of General Eisenhower, the French politburo signs the official and total surrender of the Commune of France.
frenchsurrender.png

The French surrender is quickly followed by the surrender of the remnants of the Commune of Italy. The war against International Syndicalism, which had been raging for 4 years, has finally ended, in total victory for both the United States and the Entente, as well as for Germany and Mitteleuropa.
victoryineuropedayb.png

The war is over. Victory celebrations break out in cities all over the western world, as thousands flock into the streets of New York, Toronto, London, Berlin, St Petersburg, Constantinople, and Budapest, as well as countless other cities, to celebrate the end to one of the world's most bloody conflicts, even surpassing the Weltkreig in terms of death toll and physical destruction.

And so, peace has finally returned not only to Europe, but to the rest of the world.

At least, for now......

Victory at last.
Congratulations ! :)
Now it's time to take care of Asia.

Victory!! Congratulations, the world has definitely been made a safer place. Or has it??

With Suez and Sicily in German hands, and Gibraltar in American hands, a dangerously unstable situation has evolved in the mediterranean. As long as the two power blocs get along, fine, but at the slightest whiff of conflict military planners on both sides ought to be eager to jump the gun and seize the high ground preemptively. :eek:o

I'm very excited to see how you reshape Europe. Also what's gonna happen in the Pacific?

Kaiserreich has so much fun possibilities.. :)

Superb ending to the war! and I love that border between American France and German France. Seems a lot like our timeline's divided Germany - the East is little more than a rump state, while the West gets most of the good stuff.

Can't wait to see where things go next. And nice to see Truman step into office after being elected this time. Here's hoping he doesn't become the first leader to use atomic weapons in this timeline...

Germany got Lille... big industrial town. I can see them being happy with it. I don't think you should let the DE AI release Flandern-Wallonien again though - Germans hate the Belgian's guts. I can see an independant Wallonian Bufferstate though - just to make it painfully obvious to any French Successor state they're not getting any.

Interesting map of Europe. Borders are nice and there will be lovely Iron Curtain between you and Germans.

The two Channel Ports make it an uglier border, though. :(

I wonder what Germany is going to do with their share of France. It's not really large at all... plus they may want to keep it separate from Wallonia for political purposes. The land they conquered corresponds roughly to the medieval duchy of Champagne and the Counties of Artois and Picardie. Maybe they can install a Duke of Champagne-Artois?

Either that, or they invite one of the pretenders to the French throne and give him a Kingdom of (little) France... could use that nice white flag of the Bourbons again, and the beautiful white map color :D

Belgium should be reorganized as the Duchies of Brabant (Namur, Brussels, Mons(?)) and Flanders (Antwerp, Ghent, Dunkerque). That would also fit better if they also set up a Duchy of Campagne-Artois or some such medieval contraption.

Lastly, if that all is too medieval, a more modern-minded alternative would be to merge all the non-German lands in the low lands together to create a federation of Francophone territories. And encourage them to seek closer cooperation with the Netherlands (who might or might not get some Flemish territories) so that that corner of Europe can become a little proto-EU. After all the Germans might at this point realize that creating little client kingdoms did not work out so well for them after the first Weltkrieg. Who knows, by now the Hohenzollern Crown Prince Louis Ferdinand might already have gained some influence. He was a very modern minded chap (unlike his father Wilhelm III and his grandfather Wilhelm II) and in OTL had spent some years learning business with Henry Ford and was also an acquaintance with FDR. He should be able to get along much better with the USA than his dad or grandfather.

If you are already planning on fighting Germany, having Wilhelm III abdicate in favor of Louis Ferdinand (Emperor Friedrich IV) and releasing the conquered European peoples would be a sensible term to impose, following victory.

A fitting end. Though I wonder how MittelEuropa is going to handle the post war since all the major members (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, White Ruthenia) except Russia got seriously thrashed.

Japan seems powerful but it's a paper tiger at best. A major three way civil war, Invasion of Great Britain, France and Italy couldn't stop the US. Japan certainly isn't.
