Great DD !

I understood you increased the draft level before the war. However did you mobilize before or after you declared war ? If before, did the Yugoslav army mobilize in response ? (I see now that it didn't - why not ?)

Also can you explain a little about factors affecting the threat level ? For example, if you did mobilize before declaring war, did this increase your threat level to Yugoslavia ?

I think he meant mobilizing by "increasing draft level." There are multiple mobilization levels.

The Yugoslavs probably mobilized, but it takes time to reach full strength after that.

EDIT: Actually, never mind - I misunderstood the question.

Perhaps Yugoslavia doesn't have enough IC to reinforce?

After Mobilisation increases my general threat level.

It seems (at least on screens) Yugoslavia had barely any divisions at all, so you could simply win by using your superior number of units, outflanking them and gaining local superiority.

Not trying to nitpick, I just wonder how much advantage you can get from sudden attacks without mobilization. It seems minors can be very easily caught with their pants down (single YUG division on the first screen vs. armies of Italians and multiple border provinces without any defending unit).
Yugoslavia did have divisions on all border provinces versus Italy. Look at the first screenshot, Its just that they were so low strenght that the first Italian assault managed to shatter all but one of them. So I think thats why only one can be seen on the next screenshot. Defense in depth suddenly becomes much more important if you want to have an army on low mobilisation.

A few questions:

-You mentioned, that your AI controlled theaters cried for more battleships vs France and Britain. Should we take it literally, that your ai tells you what you should build? If thats the case, isnt the ai than also influencing your thoughts on production and technology and basically plays the game for you?

It seems like the AI didnt use the airforce. I see only one airport on the screen from 6th december. Is there a particular reason for it?

No, firstly you do not have to use AI control at all. You are also free to ignore what the AI asks for. These requirements are for the AI to perform at maximum effectiveness in all areas. So your AI theatres will ask for strategic bombers to wage a strategic bombing offensive against your enemies, but you don't have to give it to them.

The airforce was out and about just not seen in any of the screenshots.

I know this might be jumping the gun a little bit, but im sure its on everyones mind since this was a Good AAR based on the AI.

Any chance we could see a Player controlled USA and have the Theatre AI contolled to see what a Dday might look like? Also, (wink wink) this could be a constructive game to help with a topic you brought up ;)
I have used AI control exclusively to provide feedback to our AI programmers so they can improve the AI.

First of all, very nice AAR. It shows a very viable strategy is already giving me ideas for future games. ;)

A question, if I may. How hard will it be to relocate a theatre and it's units? Let's say I play Italy and decide "screw this, I'm pulling out of Africa". Assuming I have a decent transport fleet, can I simply attach it to the African Theatre, tell it to "defend Rome" or something and watch the AI handle the withdrawal?

Will it transport all/some/none of the troops? What if I remove the African Theatre and attach its former units to the European Theatre? Will it move all units using the transport fleet back to Europe or will I have to do it manually?

All this is of course only if you use the AI, players can do what they like with the units inside their theatres.

Theatres are tied to geographical areas so you can't tell the African theatre to withdraw from Africa. What you can do is remove the two armies from the theatre and reassign them to another theatre (reassigning an army was reassign all units attached to it). Under AI control the theatre AI will ship them back to where they should be, and will request transport ships if it doesn't have any.

My question is regarding the foreign policy dimension of it.

Italy gobbling up Yugoslavia in 1938 is coasting in seriously ahistorical waters and such an event would have undoubtedly caused a serious reaction from Britain and France perhaps even a major European war.

I sincerely hope the AI majors will not stand idly by as the player goes on conquering sprees.

This is too awesome. Thanks. :)

The possibility of merging the Air, Naval and Land control into a single AI chain of command was a brilliant decision I think. Should make invasions more interesting, island hopping much less tedious and aircraft micromanagement more managable all at the same time. And the option of manual control is still there for whoever wants it. It's the best of both worlds.

At the same time, the AI opponents benefit from the same mechanics, which will make opponents more fun to play against.

Will an AI ever decide to to an amphibious landing to try to achieve it's goals - even if it doesn't have to? And, If so, would it properly use ships assigned to it to escort the transports?

Thanks for an amazing DD! Great to see the new engine and combat system work ! It looks absolutely marvellous so far. Though, I have two questions for you, King:

In relation to the above question - Does the AI utilize Paratroppers ? And if so, in which scale (tactical/strategic) ?

Can you set multiple, prioritized objectives for the AI to achieve ? For example:
1 - Belgrade
2 - Dubrovnik, Novi Sad, Skopje

And how will the AI handle this ?

Thx in advance

Can you give the theater AI, more than one objective, Like Belgrade and Bern?

Yes you can give the theatre multiple objectives and it will try its best with the troops it has. It may increase its troop request as the objectives increase.

I like them, its means I can see what I own and what I only occupy. I take it that they dissapear when you annex the land / country?

Turak

It also means in the case of governments in exile where you can vary your occupation policy from country to country you can know who is the angriest and thus needs the largest garrison.
