“Russia doesn't have time but she has courage, endurance and fortitude. She will be the stake that will pierce the heart of the dying empire.”
- Chairman Nikolai Bukharin

Compass

28th of September 1976. Moscow Military Commanders Training School.

“Operation Compass” the lecturer walked slowly to his right “I'm pretty sure you all know what it is, if not, I will send you back to your mothers. What is Operation Compass?”

The cadets raised their hands. The lecturer walked back to his left then stopped and pointed at one of them.

“It's a plan to invade Germany in case war breaks out between the Triple Cooperation and the Central Europe alliance.”

“Excellent!” the lecturer sets up his board

Operation Compass

“The main objectives in Compass is to knock out Germany's two allies, United Baltic Duchy and Lithuania, and to proceed all the way to the Vistula River. This operation is the main advance in the war against Germany and her allies.”

The class went on until one cadet raised his hand.

“So why did they went against the Germans first?”

“It's something that the military high command decided back then.”

The cadet nodded and went silent. The lecturer noticed his unsatisfied face.

“What? You have something else in mind?” he inquired.

“I think I would go against the Finnish.”

“Why is that?”

“It's because they are isolated and...”

October 1939. The Kremlin.

“...and if we get rid of them as fast as we could, we could eliminate a front and free up some troops to be sent elsewhere.”

“Comrade General, I understand your point but to advance towards Germany is a number 1 priority.” Chairman Bukharin is, of course, present in the meeting “I don't care what strategy you all come up with for as long as the Red Army captures Berlin before those damn French does the same.”

“So what's the plan?”

“I suggest we follow comrade chairman's wish and advance to Germany.” General Vasilevsky said. “We concentrate half of our armour against the Baltics. The other half is to the drive through Lithuania and into East Prussia.”

“We only have four armour divisions in total, comrade, we don't have that much power to advance all the way to East Prussia. Our armies barely covers all the fronts that we don't have any reserves.”

“More tanks are under production.” said by Commissar Tukhachevsky “In just a few months, they will be deployed. We also training more rifles. I'd like to add another one. A suggestion from General Timoshenko. The Lvov area will be taken and establish a line... here”

timoshenko-offensive.png

The Timoshenko Offensive

General Shaposhnikov browsed his papers and making them rustle “Still not enough troops to make a decent advance on the plans on East Prussia and Lvov if we are expecting a war this year or the next.” he sighed “Three rifle divisions per batch!? I don't want to offend, Commissar Tukhachevsky, but the build up is too small. It needs to be bigger.”

“We cannot do that, comrade.” The People's Commissar for Finance said “The budget and resources is heavily channelled to the 'Five Year Plan', the plan is just on its second year. Until then the military build up will be limited.”

fiveyearplan1.png

Rapid industrialisation was the goal of the Five Year Plan turning the mainly agricultural country into a proper industrialised state.

The aura in the room dampens. They cannot ask to downgrade the funding on the Five Year Plan. That's Bukharin's brain child and they also understand the need for rapid industrialisation.

“Well, we have at least 20 divisions in Siberia. We could sent them west to bolster the proposed advance.”

“And leave the borders defenceless against Japanese aggression?”

“According to the GRU, the Japanese went total isolationism just like the pre-Meiji times.”

japandiplo.png

Japan have suddenly turned to their old ways of isolationism since 1937.

The argument went on until they have decided to transfer the troops in Siberia into the operation which will be codenamed as “Compass” and the Soviet-Japanese border were left defenceless aside from a meagre number of Border Troops. Russia did expand her military during the constant wars to liberate Russian lands but the army is still small to cover everything. Aside from Central Europe, only the Libyan front can stage a major offensive. “Operation Surplus”, an advance to capture Benghazi. On the other fronts, the Bosphorus front isn't enough to venture into the European mainland and the Northern front looks inadequate to have a major offensive.

The Bosphorus Front

-------------------

For months, there are no more skirmishes or political clashes between Germany and Russia as the later tries to avoid them but in the 26th of April 1940, the tension came not from Russia but in France. After 20 years of peace and an alliance with Russia, the Syndicalist republic is confident enough to have a stand-off with Germany. The Communards made an ultimatum to Berlin. Alsace-Lorraine or war! Germany immediately shot down the offer and the next day, French artillery opened fire. Europe plunge itself into war again.

ww2.png

Nervous was the word that'll come into someone's mind if they were ask to describe the atmosphere in the room as the chairman of Soviet Russia announced in the nationwide radio of their support to their western allies against the German imperialists. Four years of Soviet rule that is in constant warfare to regain its old lands is clearly not enough to put the country from a backwater into a juggernaut that can squash the greatest country of this era, Germany. Bukharin is finally done with his speech. The photographer signalled him and took a photo of the chairman holding his paper. The radio crew left with their equipments, leaving him alone with the SOVNARKOM and other top military and political officials. He then spoke to them “I understand that facing them will be difficult but we will be victorious, comrades. We will.”

End of Chapter

Wow. So it starts, showdown with Mitteleuropa.

Woah! Thanks a lot to the suggestions. I like Asalto's suggestion so I'll go with that one but I'll put Federation instead of Union. The later is getting too common in this timeline :p

Federation of Central African Socialist Republic, F.C.A.S.R. or Centroafrica will be its name. Whether it wanted a Pan-African state or just stay with the current borders, I'll just write an event and let the AI decide on that. :)

Anyway, another Great War has started!

seeing the plans makes me wonder

for poles beying left aside (although being on hte way) must be terrible anxiety, to be liek swiss, encircled... For Red army it also must be a curiosity, passing around it like water around an island

omg omg omg omg :D

@Deus Eversor - I don't know what happened there but I checked that Poland isn't included in the Mitteleuropa alliance! It's weird. Maybe I'll check the event files. Of course, Poland will be ignored for now. We will free the oppressed Polish workers and peasants from the corrupt and ancient Reactionary regime!

I've played a bit on my game now so that means I'll start writing the new chapter. :D

The Second Great War

“The liberation of Europe has began”
-Sebastien Faure, Chairman of the Bourse Generale du Travail

“This is the time to reclaim our homeland!”
-King Edward VIII

Two Down

“We are 140 meters away from our target, Chris”

Chris was shaking. He never seen anything like this. A garden of exploding black clouds is all he can see in front of him. He tried not to think what would happened if one of these hit the aircraft.

“We've zero on the target. Bombs away.”

“Alright. Bombs away.”

Chris pressed the button and the bombs fell from the belly of the beast and exploded with might when it hit the Earth. Balls of fire erupted from the contraptions and destroying everything around it. It was the first military act of the Union of Britain when it entered the war, a day after the declaration of war. The Triple Cooperation is no longer a trio as Britain sided with them along with the addition of Turkey and Arabia. The six country alliance replaced its former name into the “Workers and Peasants' Socialist Liberation Front” or the Socialist Front for short. The alliance is now, officially, the military arm of the Third Internationale.

The city being hit by the strategic bombing

The People's Commissariat for Armaments have designed a new model of light tanks. Chairman Bukharin then commented to the Commissariat that they should focus on replacing the light tanks to medium ones as there is only a division of them.

soviettech1940apr.png

Two days later, the Soviets have successfully captured the cities of Grodno and Wilno. The swiftness surprised the Lithunian king and his ministers that the two armour divisions have reached the capital city in two days. All thanks to the still expanding Soviet armour. The event lead to their captured and their surrender. Following the surrender, King Mindaugas III was abdicated and he and his ministers were tried for crimes against the Motherland and the Proletariat.

frontline01.png

In North Africa, Soviet Russians and Soviet Arabs are on a good start on their task of surrounding and then destroying the Kaiser's army. According to many recons that took place, they are confirming that there is an armour division present in Tobruk.

frontline04.png

On the Baltics, the thrust have successfully divided the duchy into half with the northern part isolated from supply and communication. The assault of Riga have began after a series of artillery barrages.

battle1-2.png

On the other side of the globe, Canada, the leader of the Entente (or what's left of it) have declare war against the Socialist Front and said that “this is the time to reclaim our homeland”. The Kremlin sarcastically replied “The Soviet government of Russia, Arabia and Turkey are distressed by the thought of waging war against you. We can only hope that the Soviet people can sleep calmly in their beds.”

ww2canada.png

The initial phase of the war has been a success. The Soviet Army are getting nearer on their objective in just a week and a half with plans being step up for the drive to the Vistula. The Estonian pocket is tightening. The city of Riga is under pressure due to continued Russian attacks and relentless artillery bombardment. The Brest pocket is also getting smaller, unfortunately, some of the troops are escaping via Poland which is a neutral country but allowed access for Mitteleuropa troops. Kremlin have demanded the hand-over of the escaping soldiers but they were ignored.

frontline05.png

On the Bosphorus Front, the Red Army have driven the Bulgarians out of Anatolia. As of May 12, the enemy made a counter attack and pushed the Soviet troops out of Bursa. Later on, the Bulgarians were, again, driven back to the European mainland, successfully defending the province. The strait is still not safe for Russian ships to pass through.

frontline06.png

The Western Front isn't all quiet as the Communards have advance and overrun the kingdom of Flanders-Wallonia. The coward king Adalbert, third son of the kaiser, and his cabinet have already left the country. No gains made in the Alsace-Lorraine region.

westernfront.png

In the skies over the battlefield, the Soviet Air Force is having the air superiority against the Germans, intercepting both fighter and bomber planes. The greatest feat that was witnessed in this theatre was the massacre of the slow, obsolete and unescorted Hungarian bomber planes.

The LaGG-3

In May 13, Russian tanks and soldiers have tried to make a push into the city again and on the next day, the victorious Red Army have completely captured the capital of the duchy, Riga, after a week of fierce fighting. The duke have escaped justice, unfortunately. He fled to the docks where a German battle fleet was waiting and sailed off to Germany.

Generals have already boasted that Berlin will be on Soviet hands on June while some cautious ones have said that they've yet confront the Kaiser's army.

------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's great to have the French as excellent cannon-fod- errr... allies! :D

This will be a slow, but fulfilling war. The Kaiser better get plans to flee to Mittleafrika.

@SovietAmerika - There's no more Mittelafrika, it's now called The Federation of Central African Socialist Republics or Centroafrica. :D Germany still has colonies dotted in the Med and in Asia, the biggest (and logical place to escape) is Vietnam.

@Deus Eversor - I'm surprised at the fast progress. I guess the German army is too busy on the West.

@Razgriz 2K9 - No. I won't do that. No Soviet Union when I reclaim all my cores. But I'll give you guys some tidbit. There will be a Soviet Union in the future! ;)

"kaizerki po sajgońsku" XD
kaizerka - a type of bread baked in Poland + sajgonki - type of food that came with vietnamese immigrants => ideal mix by the poles!

haha i bet SU will be created peacefully by free decision of syndie states?

well any chance for the reactionaries to put up a real fight is to make entente ally mitteleuropa...

well any chance for the reactionaries to put up a real fight is to make entente ally mitteleuropa...
The two are already at war with the Socialist Front. Any difference would that make if I ally them? But if it does gives the Reds some challenge then alright.

they should be mixing forces, liek canada sending navy and soldiers to german bases, or mittelafrika mixing forces with national france etc etc

besides that would be logical if, in the end, Kaiser, in high majestical greatness, would allow national govs coem back to their respectful countries*... a threat of popular fronts should be a unifying reactionaries...
they wouldn't be able to resist his influence and join his bloc one way or another

aditionally, if usa joins the grand coalition...

I love the Baltic Blitz :D It seems as if this will be a hard fought battle, but a fight the proletariat will win none the less. Onwards to Berlin!
