it's difficult to find too much material, but this here is a good start:

The German War Economy
Study of German war production data as well as interrogation of those who were in charge of rearmament at the time, leaves no doubt that until the defeat at Moscow German industry was incompletely mobilized and that in fact Germany did not foresee the need for full economic mobilization. German arms production during 1940 and 1941 was generally below that of Britain. When the full meaning of the reverses at Moscow became apparent the German leaders called for all-out production. The conquests of the previous years had greatly strengthened Germany's economy; with the exception of oil and rubber, supplies of virtually all the previously scarce imported materials were or had become accessible. Great reserves of foreign labor only awaited voluntary or forced recruitment. The industrial plant of France, the Low Countries, Poland and Czechoslovakia had been added to that of Germany. After the defeat at Moscow early in 1942, armament production increased rapidly. However, such increase was more the result of improvements in industrial efficiency than of general economic mobilization. Studies of German manpower utilization show that throughout the war a great deal of German industry was on a single shift basis, relatively few German women (less than in the first war) were drawn into industry and the average work week was below British standards.

Germany's early commitment to the doctrine of the short war was a continuing handicap; neither plans nor state of mind were adjusted to the idea of a long war. Nearly all German sources agree that the hope for a quick victory lasted long after the short war became a long one. Germany's armament minister Albert Speer, who assumed office in early 1942, rationalized German war production and eliminated the worst inefficiencies in the previous controls. A threefold increase in armament production occurred under his direction but the increase cannot be considered a testament to the efficiency of dictatorship. Rather it suggests the degree of industrial undermobilization in the earlier years. An excellent case can be made that throughout the war top government management in Germany was not efficient.

This is starting to sound like it is going out of scope for SMEP. I don't think it was ever the intention of the mod to touch resource balance too much, but to leave that for the main game developers or other "non-simple" mods. I would of course be happy to see improved realism in resource/IC allocation, but I would be even happier if SMEP could expand further on the things that makes it great, like surrender events, what-if scenarios and more realistic post-war scenarios.

type event 70000 without anything else.

Thak you Makif. I got it working. I'm sure it'll be good. I miss some of the pretty unit portraits though. I will say that having capital capture events -which I'm trusting increases the significance, are badly needed. I control Moscow and Leningrad yet may still lose the war as it seems to have had no effect on the Russians in CWE.

Does anybody know if Atruejedi is active anymore? I love SMEP for AD, but this version still needs some tweaking, especially with regard to Japan AI.

I agree that the main shortcoming of SEMP is the Japanese AI. It seems less likely to attempt to attack India than vanilla AOD AI when given the ability to do so by other factors. I also feel that the Japanese AI really needs to be taught to cease and desist mixing BB's and CV's together in a fleet. Even changing the naval stacking penality from -0.02 to -0.005 seems to not stop them from getting crushed by human US fleets, often inferior in strength. I've given the Jap AI fighter tech blueprints at start which seems to help some but still is not enough.

I really have yet to see any AI HOI2 mod or game system that can fight as well in the Pacific as can the GER/USSR AI can in Europe against a human.

I have been tweeking this mod for a couple of months now. I judge it the best of the AOD mods.

The German AI too often can land in Britain, often after the abort Sea Lion news pops up. The UK AI seems not to understand how to stop an invasion conducted by only unescorted transports.

To counter this I placed 3 locked garrisons each along the British coast -- a necessary evil -- for I do not know an easier way to stop a German invasion even if it is not in earnest. Ai can be taught to see and attack a weakness but it seems unable to do a simple defense of an unguarded critical beach.

I still find it necessary to give the USSR a ground attack penality that goes away over a period of 2 years after the German attack just to give the German AI a fighting chance agains the AI Russians.

I give AI Japan a declining combat advantage as well against a human USA player as well as a USA combat penality for the first 2 years of the war.

Seems with the lack of interest here now that nobody cares anymore now though. Too bad!

I play AoD almost exclusively using SMEP and I'm currently looking into Weserübungs modifications for SMEP. Yours sound interesting too. Care to upload them as a pack?

Just started my first SMEP game as the USA to get a feel for the game, basically how the early war would play out, and wow Germany just steamrolled Europe. India is free, Vichy France annexed France, Germany got most of Africa from France, the UK got invaded and surrendered, India is free as is the middle east, and its not even 1941 yet (its 1940).

Looks like it'll be harder for the USA to take Europe back, I'll have to stage from Iceland then invade the UK then from there invade mainland Europe. Might have to also get some footholds in Africa and attack up through Italy too to get 2 fronts there. Definately don't want the Soviets to take all of Europe :D

So far love the mod, seems to make things happen that too often didn't happen or didn't happen "on time" in regular AOD.

I think allowing Romania to administer Odessa, etc. during Barbarossa messed up my Bitter Peace. After it fires and you make the decision to give the area to Romania these territories seem like they permanently transfer from Romania back to the Soviets. I'm eventually going to play another game as Germany in which I continue to occupy the Romanian-Soviet border provinces myself and see if I can somehow avoid Beria keeping a beach house on the Black Sea.

I'm thinking of trying the SMEP again, but I remember last time I downloaded the 6.0 beta there was plenty of errors. Could you list the hotfixes I need to download and patch the SMEP.

Two or three months ago I spent a lot of time playing SEMP with Weserubung's improvements. It had a lot of great event features. I played entirely as USA and used the mod as a starting point for my own mod changes which basically made the Pacific war against Japan more challenging and realistic.

I gave up playing it though because of the high tendency for UK to be captured long before the USA ever entered the war. In addition there was a whole lot of garbage invasions going on in the Med by UK and especially Italy that resulted in UK losing Suez very often.

Now, one could say that the mod improved German AI against UK and Italian AI against UK which it most certainly did often enough, but it isn't rocket science for a human player as UK to defend Britain and Suez from the AI.

I even tried placing locked garrisons of 3 garrison divisons equiped with ART on each and every beach in Britain at game start in 1936 and Germany was still getting ashore because the UK AI would never all the time sail to meet an invasion fleet which it could have easily destroyed and if a beach garrison was ever eliminated, UK AI never put any new unit there to guard.

Most of the time that these successful invasions of Britain occured AFTER the message came across the screen that Germany had given up of Sea Lion and was preparing to invade Russia.

I gave up on it. I could not figure out how to stop it or how to fix it.

Other than that -- a very good mod.
