Just out of curiosity, why is it possible to avoid the Civil War if Long is President? I would have thought that CSA secession would have been automatic on Long's inauguration...

It wasn't possible for me to avoid the war after electing Reed. Long can probably avoid the war because he's a 'national populist', and can crack down on the communists. I elected Reed, and then MacArthur kicked some socialist ass and the CSA and AUS both seceded.

Pretty much. Many American officials at this point IRL praised Mussolini in Italy and such because he represented a "third way between capitalism and socialism" which was... state-managed capitalism. Long was pretty much a Fascist, albeit a significantly more moderate one. FDR actually feared him because although FDR saw Fascism as interesting in its ability to defeat the growing power of the Communists and at economic revival (while taking some cues from Mussolini's Italy), his policies were significantly less 'radical' than Longs and unlike FDR, Long had definite autocratic (not to mention obviously demagogic) tendencies.

In Kaiserreich the people don't have FDR and the situation is far more serious.

I just played Austria into '39, tried to unify Austria and Hungary a couple of times but only succeeded with the help of Germany. I allied them early in '36 and shortly before the unification-war started, assumed military control of all the puppets of Germany, because they wouldn't let me use their units.

I think without using Germany, it's superhard to defeat Hungary. You have only 1 year of preparation, almost no manpower, less divisions and often enough, you face not only Hungary, but also Bohemia or Croatia.

Anyway, in my current game I succeeded in doing so but now I don't have cores on Croatia and Hungary, only on Bohemia and Galicia.
1 or 2 years later, I declared war to the Federation of Italy with maaasssive dissent hits (+30%).

So what now? Are there events to provoke a Germany/France war? Russia turned into the Soviet Union...are they going to ally with France?
The Entente has dissolved more or less without any wars. Only Canada and Australasia are still in it.
The American civil-war endend it a victory for the old USA, only California survived and peaced out with the whole westcoast.
There's a lot of stuff going on in Asia with Mongolia attacking this and that country and some stuff in China, I didn't pay close attention to.

For Austria, I have to say that as noted above, the fight against Hungary is VERY difficult, if you take the conflict-path and you even get dissent?!? The Austrians should love you for bringing new glory to them ;)
And they have FAR too few Generals and Air-Leaders (ONLY FOUR!!).
Also, they should have more manpower at the beginning. You start with 10 MP?

Overall, I would raise the average-IC and MP of every country a bit. Now, it's too hard to raise a real army and makes playing small countries too uninteresting. Even countries like Russia have only about 100 IC which I think, is a little bit too few for such a big country.

We have done that in the previous version and the end result is, when Austria or Hungary annexed all the countries they evolve into a superstate, which is more powerfull than Germany or Russia or even the US! As for Russia you must know that it is run by an inefficient and corrupt government for nearly 15 years and also their most productive areas, like Ukraine are now independent countries our under foreign rule!

Also it makes the game more challenging other than a walkover!

Is there any plan to update this for armageddon 1.3?

Why not? This would be a fun mod to play.

Because we don't have the time for it before we start thinking about an Hoi3 version. We need more people if we shall have time to fix Kaiserreich to that version.

I was not talking about giving cores everywhere, which would of course turn them into a superpower (which would be ok for me, given that you still have a tiny army in comparison to Germany, who could be your next target).

But rather changing the starting conditions of Austria. More Air-Leaders are really needed. The manpower at the beginning is super-unrealistic and makes it too hard to win against Hungary, if they ally with Bohemia or Croatia. (you will have to ally Germany in '36 if you want to win, but only then, because if you declare war on Hungary, Germany gets superpissed and probably won't ally you, when the war already started.)

Just played as Austria, and it wasn't that difficult for me. I allied with Bohemia and steadily advanced against Hungary, though it's really all over for Hungary once you take Budapest and Bratislava, which are just a stone's throw away from your borders. Even if Croatia joins the war, their army is just paltry in comparison to yours and you could easily hold them off with the two mountain divisions. If Bohemia allied Hungary, yeah, you're in trouble.

The manpower thing really wasn't an issue for me, nor was the IC. I built an armor division and two infantry before the war began and that was all I really needed. IMO, I think what you're doing wrong is trying to take back the entire empire, all at once, which is a bad idea. Of course you should lose if you go to war with Bohemia, Hungary and Croatia.

i don't know if this has been mentioned, but playing as canada, all units i had stationed in new england were given to new england when they became independent. VERY annoying.

Yes, I also noticed this. Also, in the event releaseing New England, the description says that the Conservatives wanted to keep it, while the Liberals wanted to release it. However, there is no choice to keep it.

BTW, playing as Canada, what do you think is the best way to retake Britain? My route through Scotland caused me a lot of pain that I feel may have been unnecessary.

well i haven't got that far (just defeated the CSA) but i was thinking i'd have to attack from france or spain, because any direct landing onto britain is out of range. but can i base myself in french north africa and then attack the south of britain?

i havent assessed the defences of britain yet but i was just planning to try to find a weak spot and quickly land lots of troops. if that doesn't work, i might attack ireland and use it to base bombers.

Well what I did was, first take out the CSA (easy), then, help Delhi annex the rest of India (easy-medium), then won the battle of Iceland and used it as a base to attack Scotland (very painful). You cannot use French Africa to invade Britain, IIRC, however, if you can ally Portugal, you can use that to reach Cornwall.

Oh, and France is pretty togh to take out. Germany makes it much easier, but you could probably destroy France yourself through a consentrated effort. And watch out for the UoB Navy. You and them share two halves of the old Royal Navy.

Ireland is viablle, but I myself want to save that for after the ressurection of the UK, and try out the Irish/IRA event chain.

oh i didn't know about the battle of iceland, when does that happen? iceland's definitely a good staging point.

In my current game I was able to fully centralize Austria.

Now I'm in a Catholic bloc with Carlist Spain, Ireland, Portugal and the Papacy in a war against France/Sicily.

I have more French units trapped in central Italy than I have units holding them. O.O
(They had pushed the Pope to just Rome, Carlists won the SCW and went crazy with Catholicism. I joined in order to give them a fighting chance. End goal is either a disarmed France or annexed and puppets created.)

The problem is that I don't know if I can defeat the Franco-Sicilian forces...has anyone else done something similar?
