"As you can see we are currently withdrawing to a more stable defensive line with one corp moving to Lahore in the north from Sinkiang which will halt the current British advance on that province. Our forces are only two days away and will easily reach the province first. Our withdraw has made the enemy leave theirs trenches which has in turn allowed our bombers some targets which they will pursue for the next few weeks. Unfortunately the aircraft assigned here will need to remain as it is fair to assume that the Red Army will also visit India from the north. We expect to counter attack against the Allies as soon as our forces recover from their latest moves."

oct1460000cent.jpg

"The center has pulled back the furthest and lost more territory as a consequence. We are now close to our originally planned defensive line with the forces as shown. The Red Army has made no major move against any of these forces so far as they march through the hostile terrain."

oct1460000manch.jpg

"This brings us to Manchuria which remains the most contested area of operations. Our forces are still outnumbered by a significant margin which resulted in the loss of Harbin and Ulan Hot. Our new line of defence, which will complete once the troops that are moving back from Ulan Hot arrive in Chifeng province, allows for a very flexible counter attack position where we can envelop any Red Army forces moving into either Ulan Hot or Xinjing. Our Dive bombers in Dalian can also reach both provinces. Our other Dive bomber force is still waiting for Soviet forces to get into its range which they are in no hurry to accomplish. Once both of these bomber wings are fully engaged the enemy casualties should increase considerably.

Headquarters divisions are also indicated by the orange squares and there are currently four in this small area providing ample coverage for our forces. The most vunerable point in our lines would appear to be in the east where Soviet troops have been seen heading towards Vladivostok in large numbers. We have room to manouver in this area and can easily pull back into the mountains of North Korea if needed. Should this happen it is likely that the Tactical bombers operating over Sinkiang and Mongolia will switch to bomb this area as they can operate directly from the Japanese mainland if needed. We expect the entire region to be snow covered as the month draws to a close which should halt most offensive action. Over to Minister Osami for a Naval briefing." concluded Satoru.

"Thank you Minister Satoru. Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen." Osami began. "All losses for the last month were American and I will cover those first."

oct1460000sunk.jpg

"Nothing major but they did lose a fair amount of the Submarine Divisions in Samoa as well as the remains of Admiral Spragues fleet. The Naval bombers operating from Fiji will be moving to Pearl Harbour as a result of the major port strike conducted yesterday by the United States Carrier fleet. This fleet contains almost all of their known Carriers and is a large threat to any of our ships. I request that we withdraw both Carrier Groups to Japan until such time as they can compete on more equal terms or the enemy Carrier strength reduces due to our Naval bombers efforts."

"Request granted but try not to get them sunk on the way home." stated the Emperor.

"Thank you your Majesty. We will allow the bombers to conduct a patrol before the fleets leave Pearl Harbour. BB Division 1 has moved to the Indian Ocean to try and prevent further landings against Colombo and to try and interdict enemy reinforcements heading to India through the Red Sea. Our Submarine picket forces have encountered nothing trying to move passed them at all and our Heavy Cruiser fleets have also not seen much of interest for the most part.

Repairs continue to our damaged ships and will increase as a result of the damage sustained by our Carriers. Manpower wise these are fairly insignificant but they do add to the total and take a long time to repair. I have nothing else to report but Minister Jun has a request I believe." concluded Osami.

"Indeed I do, thank you Minister Osami. I would like some more Tactical bombers and Escort Fighters for both them and our current squadrons." asked Minister Jun.

"Why and how many?" asked Hirohito.

"They are duel purpose your Majesty and can be used to assist in the Pacific and Asia. We are a little short on longer ranged bombers and we do need more to cover such a large area. Another sixteen should be more than enough." answered Jun.

"You wish to double our Tactical bomber force then. Minister Ginjiro do we have the manpower and production to handle such a request?"

"Maybe if we restrict the builds to serials of four your Majesty but manpower is very tight right now. It will take almost a year for the bombers and probably longer for the escorts which would spread the manpower requirements over a longer time and allow me to continue at least some upgrades but at a much reduced rate." replied Ginjiro.

"You are planning to research a newer Tactical bomber variant shortly are you not Minister Kuniaki?"

"Yes your Majesty but that research probably won't complete until the New Year." Kuniaki replied.

"No plans for escort research though?"

"No your Majesty."

"Your request for Escort Fighters is granted now, in serials of four, and your Tactical bombers will be granted once research concludes into the new model if the resources can be spared." the Emperor decided.

"Thank you your Majesty." replied Jun.

"I believe your last today Minster Ginjiro." said Hideki.

"I think so yes." replied Ginjiro. "Good morning your majesty, Gentlemen. Our Industry continues to run at full capacity with no critical shortfalls in materials yet."

oct1460000prod.jpg

"Our Industrial Capacity is two complexes lower than last month due to a concerted bombing campaign over northern India. The damage is not particularly significant and is merely a minor nuisance. Transport Capacity has returned to its more normal number after redeployments completed in early September.

We have shortfalls in four of our resource catagories. Energy and Oil and a concern whereas Metal and Rare materials are nothing to worry much about. We know the reasons for both the problem areas and continue to try and correct these with trade when we can. We still have five months of Energy stockpiled at the current rate of decay. Oil we can obtain through negotiation rather than continuous trade if needed at the expense of Metal or Supplies if we can stabalise that situation.

Supplies are not increasing despite my attempts to do so. The only way I can gain considerable amounts would be to cut back on upgrades and production, neither of which I wish to do for the time being. The added production requirements for Escort Fighters will add to this problem but none of our troops are starving and they can have extra supplies almost on demand.

Manpower has stabalised and is constant for now with not much needed for repairs. More months like September where ground combat losses were fairly small should improve the situation further. I still have some forces I can disband if needed but I hope not to have to do so.

Reinforcements look high but are for ships and aircraft mostly and our entire upgrade cost is down to Interceptor squadrons as the Dive bombers were completed in early September. These upgrades will take several months to complete and will likely be further delayed when we conclude the next Dive bomber research."

"I would like half of my Interceptors ungraded before you move on to the next Dive bomber upgrade as they run out of fuel almost as soon as they take off until they can be completely upgraded." said Jun.

"I can do that if you wish certainly. Unless there are any other requests I think that is all from me." concluded Ginjiro.

"Thank you Gentlemen. I will take your advice and not plan a vacation in Tahiti just yet. Keep up the good work." stated the Emperor as he stood and left the meeting.

Tahiti? Well, better than Endor, methinks...

:D

Good tech overview. You certainly are pressed for time when it comes to research and I am glad you know what you are going to prioritize after the completion of current projects. I would say prioritize agriculture and computers if you think the game will last long enough for them to pay off. :p

You mentioned naval doctrines. Does Japan have a second naval research team after Yamamoto, or are you going to have to use Tojo or Yamashita? I havent played Japan in about a year so I have forgotten about a lot of the research teams they have. :eek:o

1) install HOI2
2) choose 1944 Scenario
3) Choose Japan
4) Profit

The ministers appear quite confident. I hope their optimism is well-founded.

Nice monthly update.

Clared alot of my questions, but are the new aircraft productions going to delay shipbuilding?

robou, Kurt_Steiner, Murmurandus - He is happy that he has a little island to visit once the War is concluded :)

Thurak - Thank you. I am sort of deliberately making myself wait for the bombers as it gives the AI more time to advance before those new bombers can sway the fighting in China.

germanpeon - Thanks. I don't think I have gone over tech plans for a while so it was needed. I have zero Naval tech teams so those Techs will all be conducted by Ship teams as they at least can do one part of the research decently.

stnylan - They have fair reason to be confident. Six months into a War with a Country that outnumbers them 4 to 1 on the ground and nothing much has been lost so far. The USN is still making little progress and the Pacific remains safe, well sort of.

Maj. von Mauser - Thank you. Monthly updates are there to try and answer as many questions as possible :) Ship building will not be effected by the aircraft production in any way.

OneArmed - Your welcome :)

gooy - The main advantage of advancing through India and Persia is the total lack of partisans which is always a nice bonus to have.

Delex - Slowly but surely it is yes. The Soviet AI seems to have done some thinking and has noticed a trap I set for it unfortunately.

Update to follow ...

0000 October 1st 1946.
Industry Offices. Tokyo, Japan.

Ginjiro made the necessary changes to production that had been discussed during the monthly meeting when he returned to his office.

oct1460000gr.jpg

A total of thirty two Escort Fighter wings were placed in the production queue for Japan's Industry to produce.

2200 October 1st 1946.
BB Division 1 Flagship. IJN Yamashiro, Colombo.

Ozawa had just arrived in Colombo when he received a report from Japanese Naval bombers that had moved back to Pearl Harbour to hunt American Carriers.

oct1462200gr.jpg

The enemy Carrier fleet was steaming back towards the United States which would allow both Japanese Carrier Groups to safely leave Pearl Harbour.

oct1462200gr1.jpg

Both fleets set sail and would take nearly two weeks to arrive in the Japanese capital where they could begin the repair process.

1900 October 2nd 1946.
North China Army Headquarters. Lanzhou, China.

The Red Army had made no real move towards Japanese defences in China since the previous tactical withdraw made by Higashikuni. This allowed him to concentrate on one area of his responsibilities that had been slightly neglected of late.

oct2461900gr1.jpg

General Ueda had arrived in Lahore from the north in plenty of time to halt the Allied advance towards the province. Japanese Tactical bombers were able to operate without interference for the time being and the enemy troops were suffering as a result.

1900 October 2nd 1946.
BB Division 1 Flagship. IJN Yamashiro, Colombo.

Ozawa's fleet had remained in Colombo overnight to resupply the various ships. BB Division 1 sailed on October 2nd.

oct2461900gr2.jpg

Ozawa headed towards Gwatar Bay to try and intercept any Allied reinforcements heading towards India by sea.

oct2462100gr1.jpg

At 2100 hours he received another report from Ichimaru who was operating to the north east of Hawaii. He too had bombed Admiral Stark's large Carrier fleet and had managed to inflict moderate damage to the USS Hornet. The attack had not been one sided and his bombers had also suffered. Both Naval bomber wings were grounded for repairs as the Carriers were heading away from Hawaii.

oct3461500gr1.jpg

In the southern Pacific the Americans continued to invade the Elices Islands and captured Arorae on October 3rd to regain full control of the island chain. They clearly wished to keep these islands and Ozawa was in no particular hurry to try and take them again.

0000 October 4th 1946.
Diplomatic Offices. Tokyo, Japan.

Mamoru had decided to try another trade with his favourite South American country. The Venezuelan Ambassador was accomodating as always.

oct4460000gr1.jpg

More Energy and Oil would arrive in Japan as more supplies made the journey in the opposite direction.

0800 October 7th 1946.
North China Army Headquarters. Lanzhou, China.

All of the Japanese forces that had been withdrawing in India had completed those moves by October 7th which allowed Higashikuni to switch from defence to attack.

oct7460800gr3.jpg

General Abe led the assualt on Multan which was supported by Japanese bombers. The entire Allied force in the province were of Canadian origin which meant that the British themselves were not committing many troops to the region. The defences were quickly overpowered which would allow the bombers to spend the next few days destroying the retreating enemy divisions.

0300 October 8th 1946.
Kwantung Army Headquarters. Muken, Manchukuo.

Terauchi was slightly concerned by his enemies lack of forward movement. He had taken a lot of time trying to make his opponent advance into Xinjing in force where Japanese Dive bombers could attack in open terrain. The Soviets were up to something but it clearly did not include Xinjing for the moment.

oct8460300gr1.jpg

A Headquarters division had moved north from Andong and captured Xinjing without any opposition and no counter attack had been forthcoming. The only Soviet response was to try and bomb Chongyin province where Fukui and his Interceptors caught the enemy bomber wing during its run. The results were spectactularly one sided as the more modern Interceptors tore the bombers to pieces.

1600 October 8th 1946.
BB Division 1 Flagship. IJN Yamashiro, Gwatar Bay.

The arrival of Ozawa in Gwatar Bay was clearly a surprise for the Allies as he made two interceptions over the his first two days on station.

oct8461600gr1.jpg

The first battle on the 18th involved two British Light Cruisers which were hopelessly outgunned by the Battleships in BB Division 1. The older HMS Dido was sunk during the first hour by IJN Yamato's massive guns with the more modern HMS Edinburgh sinking to IJN Yamashiro. A British Transport fleet would also be sunk by IJN Yamashiro on the 19th.

0000 October 9th 1946.
Kwantung Army Headquarters. Mukden, Manchukuo.

Terauchi had a chance to attack Bayan Tumen again on October 9th as more Soviet troops entered the province.

oct9460000gr1.jpg

He would choose not to do so as the Dive bombers in Beiping were currently idle and needed something to bomb. At least some of the divisions in Bayan Tumen were heading south towards Erenhot where the bombers could reach them.

0500 October 11th 1946.
North China Army Headquarters. Lanzhou, China.

The Red Army was using its large manpower pool to reduce dissent amongst the local population as it advanced, something Higashikuni had never had the luxury of being able to do.

oct11460500gr1.jpg

His bomber wing operating over Mongolia made sure that the Red Army would need to send another garrison division to Ulan Bator.

oct12461100gr1.jpg

India was still going very much Japan's way as the bombers finished destroying the retreating forces from Multan and switched targets to the five enemy divisions in Karachi.

oct13462000gr1.jpg

Two of the Militia completed their advance into Hyderabad and were promptly attacked by an initial four divisions which were reinforced by the two Cavalry divisions in Ahmadabhad an hour later. The enemy Militia would not need to march all the way back to Karachi as the bombers chose them as their next target. The Allied forces were crumbling fairly quickly to the latest onslaught and Higashikuni was fairly confident that India would be secure again in the near future if the enemy Naval bombers stayed away.

oct15461300gr1.jpg

An attempt to land more troops in Karachi on October 15th failed as IJN Yamashiro destroyed the Brazilian Transport fleet carrying the troops.

awesome update....

allways fun to get home drunk and read a new update be4 going to sleep =)

Air domination continues...Those Red bombers took a hurtin'.

do you really need all those escorts? As far as i know, you have >20 Tacticals and 4 Navals. Why do you need that many escorts?
