So, after playing a game, singleplayer or multiplayer, the checksum version changes and me and my friends have to close and re-open the game to be able to join a match. Any idea why?

This is normal and by design. It also happens for you with CK2, EU4, Vic2 and HOI3. The idea is to force MP players who drop out to restart the whole game, which resets bad connections and aids MP stability.
