So I made a merchant republic from the Tribal decision, but no other families has appeared. Ain't there suppose to be more families fighting to the position of patrician?

I found this playing as Gotland. Once I created a second holding in the county of Gotland the other families appeared. At the same time as that holding being made, I also had a trade post fully built, so I think the time they appear is when one of those two things happen.

Well I have built a couple of trade posts aready, so it most be the town then. I'll give it a go

When I setup Gotland as a merchant republic to serve as my vassal in my current game, the other families popped up on succesion of the republic

Happened to me with Isle of Mann and I got the new families once I conquered land in Wales i.e. when I got new holdings, though I still only had one in Gotland. So there must be something with only having one holding.

Came here to ask that exact question! I have one holding on the Isle of Mann. Glad to see new holdings will appear when I conquer a bit of Wales and Ireland

Hmm still the old republic bug is there it seems.

Strange they can never squash it.
If in Ironman you are a bit out of luck.

If in normal, go play somebody else, use console to refix the republic
By usually just removing the highest tier the duke title, and reapplying it again to that toon.
So that will fix the issue with the patricians not showing up.

What you got now is a one person republic, fun for a while.
But he those 4 patricians are a huge bonus later on the game once they start to get there act together.

So, how do you get the other families? I'm also playing Gotland - I just have two holdings on the island now.

Hmm, I see that my succession is still Elective Gavelkind and that I can switch to Patrician Elective in 10 years - will that bring the families in?

Try to build a castle or a temple and give it to someone (e.g. a kinsman). Then, other families appear. This is the only solution I know for now.

Switching to patrician elective will cause the other families to spawn, had the same issue when I made a republic. Also your character dying will auto switch you to patrician elective and cause the other families to spawn.
