Hi Guys,

In my game as Essex I have conquered most of south-eastern England. Next, I am ready to take on Wessex.

But I don't understand why Mercia has a claim (the current King Ecgfrith and his heir) to Canterbury in Kent. As far as I know Mercia has had this claim since the game start:

Is there some historical reason for this, as Canterbury is the seat of the English church? When I look at Ecgfrith's claims, he has none for Kent.

Does this claim on Canterbury mean he will attack me at some point?

Thanks! :)

Oh, thanks! How can I "dispose of" this vassal? :)

You declare war on the top liege, Mercia in this case, with the "County claim on Canterbury" CB. This is the standard CB for counts and their lieges when a holding in their county belongs to a different realm.

You could also find a claimant to Canterbury and press their claim in theory, but that's not normally possible with bishoprics, because bishops do not generally have children to inherit claims and even if they do, the children will only get a weak claim.

Watching Blackadder may give you some ideas. You could try yelling "who will rid me of this troublesome priest?" and hope someone hears you.
