SHrug, I've been enjoying it. Basically voters won't vote for an infant, but otherwise they (mostly) keep it among your sons. Hell, if you don't have a son you can even have 3-4 kingdom titles all handed to the same new heir. Otherwise they seem to vote for someone without any titles *but* has GREAT stats (strong, high diplo, etc).
The only real downside I've seen is my borders are screwed to hell. I'm in Britannia, I'm emperor of Scandinavia, and England is mostly occupied by (my vassals) the kings of Denmark and Lithuania. And of course England (not my vassal). If you like pretty borders, this is not the way to go about it.
