I started off as Great Britain, but moved my capital to the Azores, and then Mexico, once I had colonized lots of the Americas. However, I now notice that I can't add any European countries to my sphere of influence because they are too distant. Apparently, this is based on trade range. However, is it trade range from my capital, or from my nearest cored province? Also, how can I tell how far away a country is, and what my trade range is in comparison - ie. how can I tell how far off I am from getting that country within range?
