So I'm playing as the Imperial Empire of Japan in For the Motherland 3.5.
I joined the Axis in ~July of 1937.
I conquered Shanxi, Communist China, Nationalist China, Xibei San Ma, Yunnan, Guangxi Clique and Siam by early 1938.
I puppeted Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Liberia, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Nationalist Spain, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Ireland (I also could've puppeted Yugoslavia and Greece, but decided to leave them for Italy and Germany, respectively).
The problem?
Germany keeps calling my puppets to arms without my permission.
This results in:
> Ireland waging a futile war against the UK well before they should be called to arms, guaranteeing that they are conquered (by not waiting for the UK to redirect its troops to North Africa before trying to take back Northern Ireland).
> Nationalist Spain pointlessly skirmishing across the French border (to no avail) while the British launch an invasion into Spain from Gibraltar (sometimes conquering them and Portugal before the Germans can defeat France and save them).
> Turkey starting an early invasion of North Africa, conquering Iraq, and often beating the Italians to the Suez Canal (Britain will sometimes invade Turkey while they do this, but only if they aren't already invading Spain).
> Liberia and South Africa begin to conquer the African continent, which is usually fairly successful as the British use their forces against Spain/Turkey or in North Africa and can't mount a proper counter-invasion.
> Much later down the track (during Barbarossa), the Germans call the Finnish to arms far too early, resulting in the USSR annexing Finland before the Germans reach Leningrad.
All in all, Germany calling my puppets to arms (and them accepting) has some disastrous outcomes, and the AI seems too stupid to realise that they do not have the forces to wage war against the Allies, and they are not in a position where the Germans (or anyone else) could help them.
I end up having to declare war against the Allies (which I don't want to do, as that also seems to drag me into war against the Soviets when Germany later attacks them) and save all of my puppets and conquer England (which I don't want to do... yet ).
There seem to me to be two major problems;
1. That Call to Arms can be accepted by puppets without the permission of the puppet master. That is, Germany should ask ME for permission for, say, Finland to join the fight against the Soviets (and me accepting should not drag me into war against the Soviets too!).
2. That Call to Arms should not carry across from one war to another. If the Germans ask for permission for Finland to join the fight against the Soviets and later declare war against, say, Bulgaria, the Finnish should not also be at war with Bulgaria! Germany would have to ask me for permission again if they wanted the Finnish to join the Bulgarian conflict.
With this in mind, are there any mods out there that remedy this?
Thanks,
~Caesar.
