I couldn't watch the Paradox stream, so I was wondering whether anyone got the feeling that the game in 769 is essentially the same as that in 1453, only with different (thankfully) legalism-inspired CA?

Reading the comments on the board I'm of a mind that other than factual errors or strange interpretations of history aside - which can largely be fixed - and aside from Charlemagne-oriented events, the gameplay is likely to be exactly the same. Same strcuture, same problems, same decisions.

Especially given that EU4 has a tech system that basically disallows certain things at certain points, I wonder whether the CK2 structure being stretched to breaking?

Basically, what I'm trying to say is this: did you get the feeling that there would be an evolution of social structures?

I agree that while the legalism thing is a step in the right direction, CK2's mechanics still look awfully static despite it being the PDS game that covers the longest time period (almost twice as long as EU4!).

You do get a feeling of progress if you start as a pagan and convert. Going from a raider whose kingdom falls into war every generation due to gavelkind to a christian ruler with stable borders is a big difference, but playing a catholic at 769 or at 1453 feels more similar I guess.
