Since HoI2, there is this 'codeless design feature' that allows the player to build the previous obsolete model of a ship type, like building a 1939 BB when you have researched the 1941 BB model. Generally it has a lower build time and cost, but has weaker stats. Has anyone actually ever used this feature? And is it recorded that the AI can/has used it?
I have personally never used it, and its use seems only somewhat interesting for carriers since their firepower+defense comes from CAGs and escort so who cares about their stats. For the rest of the navy ships, this can only be a situational thing, as even for transports why have an obsolete ship with less range?
This isnt a dish or rant against this feature, just a poll/inquiry, because it would actually be interesting to expand it to aircrafts and maybe armored vehicles? Interesting to keep building previous models when you are still a ways ahead the enemy's research, or if you are a medium nation that cant afford the tech cutting edge. If only the AI can fully follow this feature's design though...
