It says a lot about metal that the best metal song ever, Iron Man by Black Sabbath, only barely qualifies as metal and is really just rock 'n' roll. Ditto for AC/DC. Most real metal is terrible.

I like Nightfall in Middle Earth by Blind Guardian.
That's a start. You should try other Blind Guardian stuff and Rhapsody of Fire, if you like fantasy-themed Symphonic Power Metal.
