INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my first real AAR. I say 'real' because my first AAR was a little more of a test and getting used to gimp. I will be playing as Ragusa, my favorite nation second only to East Frisia. Before we get started, let's lay out some rules.

GOALS
By 1500 unite the Balkans.
By 1525 liberate all Croation lands from Hungary and Venice.
By 1600 annex Hungary.
By 1650 take Greek lands.
(these may be modified along the way)

RULES
There WILL be save reloading. I only allow this because I am indeed in a very difficult position, and I suck in general at EU4.
There will be restarting if things turn sour (i.e. Serbia gets annexed by Ottoderps.
Finally, I will try not to load up the save when I'm drunk.

I have the strategy down because I've been practicing a bit. But who cares, Ragusa will blob!

Chapter 1: Subjugating the Balkans

Our starting position looks grim, but Ragusa will be glorious, I assure you.

It's imperative that Venice is neutral towards us, thankfully I didn't need to restart to make sure they are.

We'll want to immediately fabricate a claim on Hum, or Travunia, whichever. Might as well set some rivals to speed it up.

WE HAVE CASUS BELLI!

Our first battle goes well for us.

Now is where I get slightly gamey. I employ my strategy to make sure that Bosnia raises NO troops. It works flawlessly.

We also need to suck up to somebody, might as well suck up to our Slavic friends.

By now, Serbia should declare on Bosnia, which is a fantastic opportunity for us. Since the Ottomans warned me, I cannot declare war on Serbia. So we'll vassalize Bosnia and take over the war.

I've neglected to take some screenshots, but here's the few I did take.

Now we employ the same strategy we used on Bosnia.

To be continued...

Looks good so far, I would get mad at save reloading, but I do it in my own paradox games so I can't really judge :p

Hehe.

Great, I have a good feeling about this one.

I do too! In my practice run, I think I've had more fun in that game than I ever have.

Looks like you are off to a good start! :)

Indeed! :D

Impressive start. However you could have gone on to vassalize Athens and Byzantium and catholicised. The war threw a bone. Still you probably have your reasons for just taking Serbia.

I want to avoid the Ottomans as much as possible in Early game. I really would be throwing the Ottomans a boat if I vassalized Byzantium and Athens. Wallachia is next on the list! Hide yo kids!

Chapter 2: Sucking Up to the Local Neighborhood Bullies

Not much to report, I've just been sucking up Lake Superior.

They love me!

Our Slavic friends are now truly our Friends. Pole and Croat stronk!

Save Croat!

I'm going to take ideas that you would take if you were Serbia. (defensive, religious, etc)

Fellow Slav is not happy with us. This make Croat sad.

Then I sucked up to them. :D

Very nice! Ragusa is a difficult nation to start as, but you have defied expectations!
The Ottos hold Istanbul and Athens, but not Morea?

Thanks! I think the Byzantines annexed Athens, and I presume the Byzantines moved their capital to Morea.

You shall be the new shield of Christendom!

You'll have the Ottomans for neighbours soon enough. Ragusa is looking better. It's a bit of a surprise to see Naples there. If' it's independent, which happens some time, making it part of Ragusa would help. Hungary is your target, I would guess - after Wallachia.

You have inspired me to venture out of my normal comfort zone and start my own Ragussa campaign, and hopefully survive for as long as it did historically!

How long was that? Because at its base size it looks like it would survive a year...

until 1807 when it was incorporated into one of Napoleon's territories iirc.
