It's 922, I'm replaying a Karen campaign and all of a sudden, most of the mercenaries have disappeared from the game. There's a total of three mercenary groups available, and not even a year ago the mercenary tab was overflowing with possibilities.

Have they all been killed off or something?
 
Mercs are restricted by culture and religion - a lot of Mercs can change both.

For example, if the Alan Riders become Mongol (which can happen if their home province switches) then the Byzantines can't hire them.
