Evil Incarnate
Heydrich was the Nazi archetype, a prime example, a living embodiment of Nazism. Tall, blonde and ruthless, he was appointed at the age of 28 to head the SD
(Sicherheitsdienst), the SS counterintelligence agency. Infamous within the party for his cunning and intelligence, he took part in orchestrating the
Night of the Long Knives and consolidating the Gestapo. However, one of the most notorious things he is known for, is organising the Wannsee Conference. During the said conference, it was also his plan that was adopted for solving the problem of "undesirables".
Rising upwards within the Party, he found himself with immense amount of influence and might. In mid-1941, Heydrich was appointed "Deputy Reich Protector" in modern day Czechia. Striving to "Germanize" the subject Czech, a wave of terror followed. With efficiency and brutality, nearly all resistance cells were crushed.
In May the 27th, 1942, two British agents attempted to assasinate Heydrich. Ambushing him on his daily commute, three bullets hit home. One in the arm, one in the leg, and one on his left chest, next to his heart. Heydrich was rushed to the emergency room, where the doctors managed to stabilise his condition.
Over the course of a month, Heydrich was hospitalised. Shocked by how close to death he was, shocked by his own mortality, a conviction grew inside him. The desire to see Germany triumphant, and a Europe cleansed of flith.
Mere days after the attempt, despite not knowing the perpetrators, Heydrich ordered punitive actions. Blood had to be spilled, and spilled it was as villages across the Czech countryside were burnt down.
In early July 1942, the Fuhrer ordered the
Abwehr purged, and had the SD take over its duties. The German military intelligence was consolidated under Heydrich. Strict routines were introduced, frustrating Allied attempts to read the German wire. With the entire apparatus of the German military intelligence under his control, Heydrichs power and ambition grew vastly.
During the 1942 offensive towards the Volga, the SD realized that the Enigma had been broken. Using this to the Reichs advantage, the SD fed the Allies false information. Enticed by what seemed to be an vulnerable flank, the remnant Soviet forces attacked. And were annihilated. In one of the worst military disasters ever recorded, the USSR had lost what amounted to a third of their armies. Stalin, enraged by this defeat, driven to insanity by his paranoia, ordered his generals purged. What followed was a bloodbath that kept escalating as the Soviet state collapsed.
By mid 1943, German forces had set up defences on the western banks of the Volga, now the de facto German-Soviet border. With war in the East seemingly won, and the West in a stalemate, old rivalries blossomed. On one side stood the Wehrmacht, symbolised by men such as Manstein and Rommel, who were increasingly wary of the Party who wanted them gone. On the other side stood the SS and the SD, led de facto by Heydrich. Even through Himmler was the head of the SS, and Heydrich was in theory subordinate to him, reality was very different.
During the later half of 1942 and the entire of 1943, Heydrich built a web of connections stretching all over across the Party. Charming and intimidating the likes of Goering, Goebbels and Himmler into submission.
With the Fuhrers health rapidly declining, Heydrich personally sprung into action, planting a bomb in the Eagle's Nest. The resulting explosion wiped out almost the entire OKW, decapitating the Wehrmacht. Over the course of the next several days, "Operation Valkyrie" went into overdrive, with basically the entire Wehrmacht officer corps liquidated.
On February the 7th 1944, the last of the high ranking generals within the Wehrmacht were executed. And thus, all resistance to the Party had been crushed. Every aspect of German society was now under Party control. The Party now reigns supreme, Heydrich reigns supreme. Woe to those who oppose him.
