ah wonderful, a socialist Belgium... But only konw I notice how horrible Pdox is at listing parties, Rex/vnv are both fascist, and Verdinaso is not really nazist...

Just over dinner, half an hour ago, I was thinking about a quick Netherlands or Belgium game to see what I could do.
Then I spot this, nice!

Communist Belgium, lol, I know who would be happy to hear that. I'm intrested in where this is going.

According to Wikipedia Verdinaso is fascist, so idk haha.

thank you :)

Subbed! Communist Belgium must survive. Though not with Pyrrhic victories like that!

Subbing...on top of an interesting premise, it also has some helpful tips on how to help a country like Belgium get off the ground and prepare for war.

Communist Belgium will live on no matter if Germany crushes us! Let the might of the Communists united crumble the Fascists!

btw, I'm actually fairly tempted to continue this game (after the inevitable defeat) as helping the Soviet Union by giving myself some land and manpower, but I don't know yet haha. Either that or I just start a BICE game for once.

Part VI: German Superiority

It appeared the Germans were much stronger than the Belgian forces. Luxembourg left an annoying hole in my lines, when Germany pushed me out of there.

The Germans were also trying to push through Bastogne.

If Bastogne falls, I will have to retreat behind the river (behind Dinant). This is not looking good for us.

I had to save it for as long as I could. I ordered my light armour to attack the Germans in Luxembourg. They hadn't fully recovered from their earlier defeat, so I wasn't very hopeful about this.

That organisation is not ideal.

Of course we lost that battle, but it did give me valuable time for France to keep sending its troops up to me.

I also attacked the Germans who had recently reached Turnhout. Anything to get me more time, I suppose. The Dutch army was not doing much - the French were the ones saving them.

As the Germans closed the gap, the French forces rapidly retreated. This is looking bad - the Netherlands has basically fallen and I'm about to face up against a huge attack through my north.

I also won that battle of Turnhout, but with serious casualties.

The French continued to retreat from the Netherlands.

You know, now that you are Communist your goals actually align with the Comintern. All you need to do is weaken and delay the Germans enough for the Soviets to win.
In fact, Western Europe falling after a long and bloody war that leaves Germany exhausted would be a dream come true for Stalin. (I think that's what he was hoping for in real life, actually)

Hm, that's an interesting point. I've definitely hurt German manpower more than it would have other been if I weren't playing Belgium, so I've weakened them a tiny bit :)

The Belgian Army must not fail! Burn the bridges! Do...anything!
The Germans will at least be much more weakened.

The fall of Belgium and Holland always does complicate matters in game (as it did IRL).

I've probably damaged them more than the French and British combined will :p

Why the French didn't prepare for the exact same strategy that Germany used in WWI is
well, it's embarrassing to say the least.

Exept, that TDM is leninist, not stalinist. And the entire commitern is stalinist. So, he has to coup the USSR!

In Soviet Russia, Stalin coups you! :p

Pretty fun AAR, I tried Switzerland and Austria myself a while ago and it was pretty interesting the terrain was a lot better though ;).
A small advice, when you play a minor in a defensive situation like that, don't forget about garrisons. They are lot cheaper than infantry both manpower and IC wise and can defend in good terrain just as well. You can put the garrison in the easiest places to defend and keep your good stuff for the weakest part of the front.

they both end with 'inist', so they're close enough :)

I'd laugh at this but considering the purge I'd have to say this is sort of true :p

Garrisons are useful, but I barely had enough manpower for anything. Switzerland, now that would be very interesting.

Well, you did put a dent into the German attack until now. But for how much longer can you survive now that the Netherlands is all but knocked down?
