Now, I haven't really tried this mechanism before mostly because the Norse don't really lack expansion mechanisms.

Anyway, I decided I wanted to see hordes of adventures flock to my banners so I tried starting as Haestain of Nantes. The results were unimpressive.

two years of waiting and I had 369 men to show for it.

Is it supposed to be so meager or am I missing something?

I probably should note that I am using 2.04. PC cant handle the later versions.

Anyway I found out how it works by running a few tests.

Delete all initial units Haestain has and launch a prepared invasion gave roughly 2.000 men over the two years. (and a couple of excellent generals to boot)

Keeping the initial units gave roughly 600 men

Deleting the initial units and raising a merc company of appx the same size gave roughly 600 men

Keeping the initial units and raising a merc company gave 0 men

So, it appears you are penalized for having any other type of unit standing.

Well, I had all the starting troops still present and I got about 1600 men.

I tried first grabbing some counties in Ireland and with around 30 holdings in realm got around 4k after 2 years. Had around 1k of the initial event troops left.
