I am too lazy to search, so I'll ask - can anyone tell me what's the deal with this millionaire bishopric?

the Abbey of Cluny was Benedictine monastery consisting of several abbeys and churches as well as a series of priories across western Europe that had massive influence because of its strict following of the Rule of St. Benedict and its support for religious reform, it was the famed as the leader of western monasticism and famed for its legendary archives. The order was suppressed by the anticlerical fanatics of the French revolution in 1790 and the archives were deliberately burned in 1793 destroying countless priceless documents and the abbey destroyed then sold to be a quarry.
