I'm playing as China. I managed to aid the Germans into securing Bitter Peace and since annexed the Soviets and released smaller states, while Germany released their Reichskommissariats in the former USSR.

It's 1954, and I'm at the border of the Russian Reichskommissariats. I've watched them grow into quite powerful realms, fielding specialised units despite the odds that their non-core territories bring.

The thing is, Germany is currently fielding over 500 divisions (more than my entire alliance, all of mainland East Asia) and I'm wondering what more help they could possibly need...

Do we really need these puppet "realms"? Why can it not be translated into direct German claims?

historical accuracy, and thats really it. But remember, puppets make their own armies, and have their own manpower. Germany might field a full 650 divs and over 70 armor divs, but with added allies that can go much higher. Not to mention that TC drops a lot from releasing puppets.

I like the idea of them more than in practice. I usually end up not releasing them and just using German divisions (renamed) to stand in for more realistic units.

If releasing the kommisariats eventually led to some kind of absorption into the Reich, then I'd do it. But, as it is just fields you some generic named and generic skinned infantry units.

The only thing they really do for Germany is to lower the used TC. AFAIK they don't get any cores on their territories so you may as well keep the land if you're Germany and use the (low) manpower yourself. It requires you to put some troops behind to stop rebels, but it might be worth it if you're running really low on manpower as Germany.

the AI will make good use of it, what with expeditionary forces and the like. Me, i dont do that, and if, rather than when, i tame the bear, i fortify the entire lenght of the line.

I'm playing a game (All In One Mod) now where Germany released all of the countries from the conquered Soviet Union and it resembles a modern day map, except Siberia is there instead of a Russia. I've never seen that before, not even in a Mod.

I've been reading about them and I feel like them being separate in-game puppet states (realms, colonies) isn't really realistic. If we're going to look at it this way then the British Empire should be a series of puppets representing each colony. In fact, it should surely be that way because Germany was looking to make these lands an integral part of Germany.

I understand Italian East Africa (though it is kind of a cheap way of ensuring that part of the empire isn't immediately crushed), but I can't see a reason for Germany having these puppet states with direct land connections, except TC but...that's part of the difficulty of what Germany was trying to undertake.

that is the way that it should realistically be. The issue is, as you can imagine, the incompetent AI that does wacky things; if left to their own devices and applying this system, the UK alone wouldnt be able to fight against germany, and the allied divs from the historical puppets would never arrive, thanks to the AI.

Well I'm a big fan of historical accuracy and I like it that way as it is now. I kinda don't like the idea of removing these puppet states as it would take the accuracy away and would also limit the player's possibility of doing whatever he wants with these lands in the east. But not only historical accuracy also the issue of just removing countries does bother me. I also tried to help out to bring the Principality of Pindos back to game :D. So to come to a compromise I would leave these RKs for human players and only write in an AI file to not release them if they are so probematic.

eeeex

The issue for me is that the RK's would be part of the Greater Reich...I don't see why they would be separate states.

I would actually like to see human controlled Germany allowed to release revised states like Russia, Ukraine, Denmark etc. And also maybe Dietsland.

Well, I think someone should mod the game so that when Hitler dies, the player will be able to release the states as well, not just the RKs. But then again, Hitler's death isn't even scripted into the game. Otherwise, it's hard to believe Germany under Hitler would release Russia or Ukraine.

Yea, I agree with trembling blue. It's more realistic without the RK as they make unrealistic divisions and they decrease the TC, which would have been (and was) a problem historically. They, as puppets, actually have more freedom than historically. Also, there are some other reasons against their accuracy and the manpower within them which we can't discussed.

Yes I will when I get home from the office. Can you refresh my memory on how to do this? Is it just Windows key+Print Screen key? I'm running Windows 8. Also, I was wrong about there being no Russia, it's there but pretty small. Siberia is huge.

As UNSC said, either PrtScreen and then paste it into paint, or the easier method is to hit f11.

Awesome, thank you! Why Spain is blue? Is it under occupation?

Yes I built up a super Argentina using some cheats (I like to think of it as mini-modding) and also using some of the economic and tech decisions that the All In One Mod offers. I then conquered all of South America, invaded Portugal, and swallowed up Spain. My military is more advanced than Germany but I still lack the IC and I'm running low on manpower so not really sure what to do next short of cheating myself more manpower, which is the one cheat I hate to use.

Planes. Lots and lots of planes.

I mean, most people don't bother with the airforce nowadays since it's not as blatantly OP as HoI2, but it's still a very powerful tool when you're low on manpower.

That or nukes.
