Chapter 6: The Emperor and the Consul are Dead
Plague and War Kills the Titans

A new paranoia has gripped the people of the Republic. With many provinces in the Holy Roman Empire falling, as Imperial Limes were invaded, people
panicked. 60 years ago, with the fall of Rome, people thought they were doomed. The triumph of the Senate, and its pivitol role in the foundation of the
Holy Roman Empire were considered saviors of a doomed world. Now, people were convinced that the world was crumbling again, with the news of instability
in the East. This prompted Court Chaplain Marcellinus to demand that Cixilo Balti, last true claimant to the Vandalic Kingdom, sister of the Visigothic King,
and wife of Publius Basilius, be banished from the realm. And so, she was banished, and transported back to the Kingdom of the Visigoths.

Shortly After, a new decree was posted:

By the Degree of the Infinitely Wise and Powerful Senate,

As willed by the Senate, and in turn the people of Rome, all religions, that are not mainstream Catholicism are to be tolerated. Arian and Orthodox practitioners
shall be allowed to retain titles and land, but can be arrested and exiled any time, without trial. Roman citizenship is also denied to non-catholics.
In regard to pagans, as they are now a united enemy of the One True Faith, all shall be expelled from the realm, on punishment of death if returned.
The Senate would also like to chastise the Equites Caesaris for sheltering many infidels.

The Following Are Banished:

Africae gentes: (Those who believe in the horrid and barbaric faith of Western Africa)

Fahriya, a zealous pagan, quick to anger and quite paranoid. Capable of speaking Latin and can be identifiable by a clubfoot.

Tawzakt: This lawless woman is known for her cruel, deceitful, and arbitrary lifestyle. Known to be brave, she may be expected to attempt a return. Master of diplomacy, (Grey Eminence)

Geraud: Notable Burgher in Djerba, old, wealthy, and an acclaimed scholar. Many claim him to be a nice and content man, but his cynical, indulgent lifestyle is characteristic of the Africae gentes. Can speak Latin

Kulla: Domina of Tripoli, mother of 3 daughters, and well known schemer. Eques Annius shall have to find a new wife. Cannot speak Latin

Abnegator (those who deny the Schism)

Licinius Porticus, only known as an elusive shadow, this Roman was relocated to Dalmatia.

Veteres Pagani (Old State Religion of Rome)

Mariana Marcus, calm taking Sicilian, known for a deceitful nature

Giuseppa: scholar of history, and zealous pagan, also known for deceitful nature

Ambrosia: Known scholar and coward, will not likely return

Lucia: known for cruelty and deceitfulness, incredibly skilled at diplomacy

Onorio: A cruel man, formerly a rebel against Italy. For this, and continued service as Praetorian of Mahdia, he has been omitted

Daemonicola ( Practitioners of the foul faith of the Germans)

Bithild Deventer: Wife of the Court Chaplain of the Equites Caesaris, shall be omitted

Diocletian: His shame is only increased by the fact he is a Roman. Known coward

Julius: Former Senator residing in Gabes, he has been exposed and executed for daring to hold a Catholic position

Mustela: Has Great Pox, shall be avoided

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where the West crumbles, many states in the east are reaching their boundaries. The Welsh Empire managed to attain victory against Zhang-Zhung, finally
stopping its reign of terror. In the Welsh Empire itself, conversion is successful, with the Huns enthusiastically converting to the Insular Church.
The Three Hypsitarian states, Alania, Crimea, and the Tribe of Utigurs have been campaigning against the Antae with great success. The rebel state of Ruthenia
has also been successful with Kagan Mojmir capturing the last holdings of the Antae. The Antae, with their nation failing, launched a migration, and captured
to the Gulf of Varna. The Slavic lands back north have been recovering after the Syphilis outbreak known as the Divine Unfavorment which killed 6 in 8 out of
especially decimating Steppe Hordes. The plague has not entirely dissipated, and the current Scholar-King is dying of the dreaded disease.

The New King of the Slavs in the Koroldom of Baltiyskiy, Kagan Vladimir Vend the Lame, has blazed forth, leading his people into grand conquests in
Estonia and Ruthenia. Currently the Vistula acts as a border between the Germanic and Slavic Worlds.

Terrible news struck on April 15, 546, when the good Consul passed away, leading to the election of Marcellus Basilius.
3Ncs2dS.png

He immediately sent a survey to his realm, it was overall uneventful, and little was discovered. After a quick summer fair, a Grand Tournament was declared, in hopes
that a Roman may end up triumphant, and in the end, all Romans won.

In turn, a new proclamation was available in the forums

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
By the Degree of the Infinitely Wise and Powerful Senate,

As willed by the Senate, all practitioners of non-christian faiths are now agents of the Diabolus, and shall be punished by death

- Consul Marcellus Basilius
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Reports of the Consul catching Pneumonia were true, for in February, he passed away, leading to the Consulship of Caecina Basilius.
MhsWqNx.png

vSiWZu7.png

The people are in a state of panic, they fear that the lord has disfavored the Romans, and the Consul traveled throughout the realm hoping to calm the people.
Unfortunately, a trade galley sank, and a Sempronius sailor managed to salvage some wreckage. The paranoia is mounting. While in an Inn, he overheard a man
named Valerius criticizing the Republic, claiming it to be a detriment to the people. He was arrested and taken away for his vile spreading of lies.
The next day, a new message was available.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
By the Degree of the Infinitely Wise and Powerful Senate,

As willed by the Senate, it is illegal to speak negatively about the Catholic Church, the Senate, or the Res Publica.

- Consul Caecina Basilius
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Being a cynical man, Caecina did not believe a pilgrimage would help save his nation, but he felt it necessary to appease them. While travelling
through anarchic Macedonia, the Consul paid to build a bridge that had been since destroyed by Anti-Spartan riots. While in the even more chaotic
province of Pontus, the pilgrims were approached by riders, claiming to be from a noble order, the Scholae Palatinae. The men in the end robbed
Caecina, making him much more paranoid than before.

During the summer fair, mages and diviners came to the fair, under the advice of the Chaplain, they were quickly rounded up by the Equites Caesaris
and removed from the fair.

Long live the reign of Potitia...

Why do I feel like the Senate is going to go to hell

First: Please do not repost an entire long post

Second: I feel it too. Enlil, is there some mechanic in the game that tells the Romans to murder each other out of existance?

Third: As I have said many times: Attack the False Empire Enlil! Now! Grab Northern Italy and the Alps before they have a chance to recover!

Is your family going to end up dying out like last time? It certainly seems that way to me.

Nah, I don't think so, there are currently 69 members of the Most Prestigious and Benevolent Gens Basilius.

First: Please do not repost an entire long post

Second: I feel it too. Enlil, is there some mechanic in the game that tells the Romans to murder each other out of existence?

Third: As I have said many times: Attack the False Empire Enlil! Now! Grab Northern Italy and the Alps before they have a chance to recover!

Its simply bad luck. The First Consul died of old age, the second got pneumonia, and the third died in a grand tournament. All good things in good time, and do you see what I mean by both had everything to gain. Heraclius is the last male member of Potitia, and he would have never gotten a shot if the Marcius family wasn't trimmed. When he dies, if he doesn't have a son, the powerful and ancient Gens Potitius will die out in the Male line.

Chapter 7: The Crossing on the Eve
The Adventures of Galerius Basilius

Yet another Emperor died, days later when Porphyrios died of depression, leaving his son, Hippolytos in charge of the Empire.

The reign of Potitia lasted only a few days, as it seems that the title of Consul is quite a dangerous one.
LVPnZ39.png

The great nations to the east seem to be not a long lived as previously thought, for the Ruthenians and Alans quickly turned on the Utigurs, grabbing
as much tribal land as possible.

Gepidia was sundered when Hartug Botheric Angantyr the Conqueror captured the rich lands of Dolor for himself, and as quickly begun a secondary
invasion into Antae lands. In the Scholar State, independence activists shattered the great nation after the death of the beloved King Ariovast the Brave.
Already, the Welsh, Magyars, and Hepthalites are quickly reclaiming lost lands.
CxwLESR.png

As the Consul was preparing a pilgrimage to meet with the new Emperor of the East, his son, Publius, asked if he may accompany him to join the
Scholae Palatinae. Seeing this as an incredible opportunity to better his son, the Consul agreed.
3NHI0II.png

Not even the consul expected the improvement ushered in by the new Emperor, Macedonia had been completely purged of its robber bands and poachers,
and the the Emperor seemed competent and effective. Upon return, a new Grand tournament was declared, in hopes of destroying the fear caused by the
death of the consul in the last one. Tragically, Pompeius of Avezzano was killed by the second place winner, Ennodius of Ravello

After a few years of peace, Publius' condition degraded down to insanity, and his son returned from the Scholae Palatinae a more skilled commander
with some war scars. But still, the primary concern of the court is the insanity of the Consul, which must be covered at all costs.
TIi3iQu.png

A few days later, Emperor Geata II of the Holy Roman Empire passed away, maimed and crippled.

In the Slav lands, horrid events were transpiring. The remnants left behind be the collapse of the Scholar-State have begun to carve out their own, new
states, with Kamarticke Aram Taryaka conquering all the way to the North Atlantic and the Hunnic Sandikh Balamberid conquering Rostov. The last
independent Slavic state in the lands of Rus was Veliki Knyaz Domoslav od Yamsky Gorodok, a brave man who ruled the tribe of Belo Ozero. But the worst
of all was the birth of another new Pagan Empire. Led by Tsar Pozvizd Venedi, this new Empire threatened to dis-balance the power of the world, re-centering it across the Danzig.
rExYtG1.png

Unfortunatly, as hard as the Senate tried, they could not stop the Consul from passing a law banning the wearing of pants, it is not expected to be enforced though. At the same time, the Eastern Empire declared war against the Hepthalites, as the Imperial Limes snaked into the heart of the Steppes.

Later, the consul claimed that Satan was possessing him, and spoke through him at times.
lLaxYoJ.png

After many years of conflict, the wretched Sievert, killer of an Emperor, sevrant of Diabolus was brought to justice. As a final punishment, his only
descendent, his daughter Telse would be raised a Catholic Roman.

Terrifying news came to the Senate on Christmas Eve, the Slavs crossed the Vistula, and captured the historically Slavic region of
Sieradzko-Leczyekie. His epic speech was later delivered to the Senate:
UmawzKs.png

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pozvizd addresses the people - The Eve Crossing, 556

Slavs, Huns, Bolghars, Bosporans, Finns, Estonians hear your Tsar!

Today we stand not only accross the bank of the Vistula of the Vistula, but we have crossed the greater river than the divide between Germans and Slavs.
We have crossed the boundary of worlds! We have crossed into the world of Tomorrow! Allow me to tell you what goes on accross the Vistula....

Unthinkable Horrors! The Germans have named their days to the name of sacrifice! The people who we engaged at the riverbanks were the Lombards.
We saw King Imerius Lando II fight among his men, leading his infantry in a wall. He seemed brave did he not? A true soldier? Perhaps his nearness to
the Vistula has inspired his men. But they were caught of guard! Many of his men are Christians, and this is the Eve of the birth of their God!

Back in Kujawy, from the inpenatrable fortress of Inowroclaw, scouts have discovered that there are greater foes than the Lombards. There is a Holy Roman Empire, led by
fools and madmen, defeated easily by our friends in Sweden, and none of us should have forgotten when the wretched Herulians tried to capture out blessed state!

But the Holy Romans and Herulians were repulsed, we subjugated the Herulians, and we brought the defenders of the Vistula to their knees. The foul Christians
apparently devour the blood and body of their own savior! They claim this "Rome" is the greatest city, but we shall show them that the Gods rule from
Turov.

If you are Hun, I shall be your Atilla, are you Finnic? I am Väinämöinen! I shall be the Sky Father, the Most High God! I was crowned Yarilo at the
festival! The world is ours!

We have already made our plans! We shall set new rivers as our goal, with our borders to expand to the Danube and Elbe, we shall build a new world.
A world that does not include the Lombards, Herulians, or the Romans.

All hail Yarilo, son of Perun!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WhuYE9m.png

Everyone thought that the the Consuls hard work was caused by his fear of the Slavs, but it was truly piety that kept him moving. Of course the Consul
also started demanding expensive items and elaborate thrones, but this was simply regarded to his madness.

rddAye1.png

After marrying and living in Scotland for many years, Publius "returned" from the Scholae Palatinae, with his son now on the throne of Scotland. Publius
refuses to speak of his adventures, and has been acting quite moody lately.

In the Thuringian invasion of Alamannia, the Roman Legions engaged the full might of the pagan armies, with a Lombard, Mauri, Gepid, Cantabrian mix
composing this army of the League of Old Rites. This also was the first time since the wars against Odoacer since the legions faced an equal opponent.
Antonius, Praetorian of the Equites Caesaris took the center, leading his men in an volley offensive Legatus Augusti Nerva Marcius led his cavalry in
a Volley harass while Praefectus Urbanus Trajan of Syrte closed in with infantry. With the Gepid King himself leading the armies, the barbarian
hordes closed in on the Romans. That is, until the Melee, when the Barbarians were butchered on the field, with roughly 6300 barbarians dying in
Calw.
Q30muJp.png

The Alamannians themselves didn't stand a chance. The King of Belgica, descendent of Meroverch, died on the fields in the next battle.
uxuxNMT.png

The Thuringians were one the move again.

In the Eastern Empire, the Cilicians managed to attain the province of Pontus through diplomatic marriages, hopefully ending the generations of poor rulers.
j20KSsy.png

With the triumph of the Empire, the Frankish king of the Kuninkrek of Germania Inferior, Kuning Maurifi Meroving the Godless allowed Bishop Fabius of Beja
to attempt conversion. The Senate then ruled to help the Holy Roman Empire in another war against the Lombards. At the same time, Faustus Basilius,
illegitimate child of Decius II became Honchmeister of the Teutonic Order. It was obvious early on in the war that Republican aid would not be needed.
It was incredible though, to see Thuringian warlords fighting alongside Teutonic Knights, Roman Legionaries, and the Imposing Gold-Masked soldiers from the Welsh Empire.
6QHnCRi.png

The Consul descending deeper into madness.
CXiq2Ef.png

4cN6t9N.png

After a few years, the Consul erected a monument to his kinsman Saturinus Basilus, who had been imprisoned and bailed over 32 times, he had been to Deep Africa, and even the Slavic Empire in missionary work, converting Agryll and quite a few courtiers before getting removed.

Asia, thought to be a brave colleague in Catholicism, shocked the world when he declared his right to appoint bishops and tax them. This was no doubt inspired by his close connection with Orthodoxy and was not as loyal to the Pope as previously thought.
WqWfE4W.png

In hopes of continuing to gain conversions, Caesar Basilius was sent to Cimrii to attempt a conversion of the Jutes.
NW21YA0.png

After years of cooporation, the glorious consul could not have been happier to hear the news, the barbarians have turned on themselves. The Gepid Horde, feared and respected for their might were no more. Kagan Premysl Slalv the Farmer a member of the Antae ruling family, managed to usurp Dacia from the Gepids, ending their supremacy. Already, the Slavic usurpers were on the move again, invading the Franl Kuninkrek of Moesia Inferior. This large Arian state has been in power for years, and the Eastern Emperor is eyeing Dacia and Moesiaas possible targets for conquests. In order to gain better information on this newly evolving Slav lands, Galerius Basilius, a relative of the Consul was sent to across the Danube.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the writings of Galerius Basilius

I first stopped in Dalmatia, where I was eagerly welcomed by Rex Ovida III. The Dalmatians had not forgotten the kindness showed by the Senate, and I of course was sad. The Eastern Empire's distant contects are visible here, for the Rex is married to a Khwarezmian Zoroastrian! This would be the last time for quite a while that I would visit the bathhouse, and recline in the Triclinium and dine with the noble Dalmnatian families, the Crassi, Sinni, Brianii. I was not eager to trade those names with Gepidii, Dacii, Venedi.

I steeled myself upon my entrence to Gepid capital, Krizevci. No longer was it a a mysterious place deep in the Carpathian basin, but it was moved to
a sad outpost across the Danube. The foolish Þiudi Borani "the Brave" lost his men in useless war against the Imperium Thuringi, and found himself unable to stop to hordes of migrating slavs. The Eastern Empire is trying to fortify the Limes, preparing for the very worse. That is, if the Empire could accomplish anything internally! Angels do not tread in the Eastern Empire, for they would find themselves relieved of all wealth and wing. I would even prefer traveling through Belgica, and I had been prisoner there for 16 years!

I was treated coldly when I crossed the Danube. The native Gepid population proved no less welcoming than the Slavic rulers. Though I could
understand both languages, the insults thrown against me were quite foreign. But, the telltale signs of Slavic rule were everywhere, and I feared that already half of the Tsar's prophecy had come true, the slavs' boundary is at the Danube. There are still some outposts of Dacians in this large land, perhaps the true rulers of Dacia, but they have been beaten down by the Gepids long ago. I was even more shocked with the appearance of an Ostrogoth, reduced to little more
than migrant merchants. I feared this the fate of Romans if we do not take action.

It seems though Slavic control in Dacia is slim, with the Slavs only controlling the capital of Csanad. He was surrounded by 4 great Gepid tribes, Rosia, Napoca, Apullum, and Sarmuzegusta Regia. Now I barely managed to gain entrance to the Kagan's court, and there was palpable fear. The King feared war, both from the Slavic Empire, and the Gepid tribes. Warrior were already moving into Moesia Inferior, and I had no intention of meeting with a hereticalchild king.
YGbSddq.png

I stopped at a Gepid at the foot of a great mountain range which has been keeping the Slavic Empire at bay, Faura-manileis Brandila was very kind, though it seems that life has been getting to him and his subjects noted him to be quite moody recently.

After crossing the mountains, I had no intention of staying in Galich or Peremyshl, for I personally do not want to get sacrificed by those wretched Herulians, and I soon found myself in Turov. It was not a spectacular city, situated on the corssing of the Dnieper and Pripyat. I asked if I could have a meeting with the Tsar, as an ambassador of Rome. Unfortunately, I found that the Tsar, and his family were all fighting in a place called Vestfold. Realzing my brother was in Jutland converting, he would have a good shot at reaching him. So, a courier was dispatched at once to Cimrii. His response was disappointing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Galerius, beloved brother,

I sincerely apologize, but currently Cimrii and the Slavic Empire are fighting for control of Norway. Though I sincerely would like to help you, I am honestly
too afraid to endanger myself to go near a man who has spoken so, negatively, against Christianity. Perhaps you could find another noble who could help
you. The majority of his counselors are training and researching up in Latgale, so I advise heading north.

Your Beloved Brother,
Caesar Basilius
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so, I head north. Most of the land is undeveloped wilderness, and many nobles lay claim to the various lands. I cannot make any sense of the divisions here, and I only knew that the region of Latgale was across the Daugava. I apparently got lost, when I made it to a densely urbanized region identifiable as the former land of the Tribe of Pruss. There were many cities nearby, and I made a unique discovery. The land the Empire resides is not truly its homeland. I met various people here, quite different than the Slavs, identified as the Balts. Their religion and culture is quite different from the Slavs, as evidences by the large degree of urbanization in the region I have decided to name Prussia. I met with a noble known as Knyaz Auctune iš Ragnit, one of the Old Prus. He practices a very different religion and different language, so I had trouble understanding him, but he claimed that his family has ruled Salovia for over a hundred years. He guided me northwards, and I depart with good hopes. I arrive in Latgale, home to another Balt group known as the Lettigallians. The people of Latgale also practice this Baltic religion, and this is the secondary capital of the Empire. Meeting with his counselors, I discovered that the the King is not expected to return anytime soon, and there is palpable hostility towards the Romans and Thuringians.
6ODwbmY.png

pZ2uRNA.png

I also visited a Balt holy site in Riga, and a Finn one on the Island of Saaremaa. These pagans are much less violent than the Germanics, and I advise to work on good relations with these Balts. I then traveled to a minor port of Novgorod, where I crossed into the neighboring nation, and was surprised to the land ruled by Tocharians. Mänt'li-Shácar, one of the greatest successors to the Scholar State, formed its own great nation in the land of the Finns. The former slavic rulers if Belo Ozero were shattered, and retained little land. I also found that Huns still survived, ruling land in Rostov. I have little to say about Ruthenia, other than it is the oldest of the Slav Kaganates, ruling since its founder, Premysl I rebelled against the Hunnic Empire.

After a harsh treatment in the Tocharian courts, I began the trek back homeward. May the glorious Senate take this into account and hopefully it will aid Inter-Vistula diplomacy later. Praise Caesar!

Well, I must say that the world seem to be settling quite nicely. I like that the ERE is actually exapniding east (at the expence of Moesia but still). Perhaps they aim to restore Alexander´s Empire? But if the Isaurians haven´t been deposed yet Im going to be so mad! But I really like that Scandinavia is looking relatively modern in terms of borders. And correct me if Im wrong, but is the east actually stabilizing? I know the west looks pancake x100 but from what I can see, the east looks relatively nice.

Finally, what is that Beige state down in the south? Have the Indians made it to Arabia or the other way around?

The beige state is the Most Prestigious and Ancient Azd'Uman, origin of all arab tribes, and conqueror of the Himyarites and Dravidians. If Sultan Uways ibn Zeyd Azd'Uman the Mighty converts to Islam, things'll get crazy.

Huh, curious - for the ruler of Dacia, I assume the 'the Farmer' nickname has to do with the gardener lifestyle? Or is it, perhaps, a peasant revolt leader?

Well, I already wanted to mention the similarity with 'Premysl the Ploughman', the legendary ancestor of the Přemyslid dynasty of Bohemia.

Chapter 8: A Mockery of Saints
The African Wars

The Consul took the news of Galerius very seriously, and began preparing for the worse. A new order was create, the Saturn League, named after the
great Missionary-Explorer Saturnius Basilius, and the Equites Caesaris was renamed to the Order of Saint Leontius, after the legendary missionary who converted the
Seven Provinces and the Thuringian Empire.
b8EeqpJ.png

People began noticing that the Consul had stopped taking any interest in women, but it was believed to be caused by the death of his wife.
7ZCU7vw.png

The Senate, and the Consul agreed that the Holy Roman Empire was no longer fit to protect its Roman subjects, and so, war was declared, intending to
add huge swaths of Thuringian land back to the Republic.

The Empire proved to weakened after the wars against the Lombards and Burgundians put up a defense, for the Legions stormed the fortresses with
ease.

By the time a major Holy Roman army was able to arrive, the war was already completed. Ravenna was personally retained as a secondary capital by the consul
himself. But the Res Publica was not finished, it was intent on also adding the Alpes, currently owned by Maxima Sequanorum to the Republic, and a
holy war was declared. Luckily, the Burgundian King was not as defiant as the Emperor. The province was not set up as a Proconsulship, but instead
a Praetorship, so the Legaus Augusti could focus on Fortresses instead of cities, which is the main priority of this Alpine province. Another bonus was
now the Republic had a connection to its ally in the Septem Provincae.

In the East, the Sassanids had another loss as Maichean rebels created the massive Bampurid Satrapy. This development was favored by the Gangeyids, who preferred the weaker and disorganized Manicheans, to the dangerous Zoroastrians.
k80CNPu.png

None though expected the news from the distant land of Azd'Uman, where inspired by Zoroastrianism and Monophytism, the Sultan Faruk reformed his
primitive religion, and declared a new age for the people of his land. With a high priest similar to a Patriarch, the reformists have been put at odds with the
traditionalists. The reformists had made their seat of power was in the old Kingdom of the Himyarites, which was used to organized Judaism. In India though, the reform
was poorly taken, with the majority continuing as if nothing had changed.

Written by High Priest Mirza, Grand Vizier of Azd'Uman

Introductions:

On this day, we gather to announce the unity, and joining of the Semitic faith, into one, unified organization.

Like the Nicenes, and now Orthodoxes who now dominate the north, we shall establish a pentarchy, each subservient to the High Priest in Medina.

Mecca: High Shaman Zeyd shall continue to work to expell the foul blasphem of Manicheanism from the City

Adana: High Shaman Hayu is currently no in communion, and is as dangerous of a threat as the large Jewish population of former Himyar.

Muscat: High Shaman Khalil shall bring the provincial people of Muscat back into communion with the church.

Al Hasa: The former sacred land of Dilmun is dominated by the corrupted followers of Mani.

Tigris: The land of Babylon must be a long term goal for us.

In time, we hope to see new holy sites emerge, and bring more to our faith.

I would like to also thank the noble Emir Harith of Qualnisiyah for his joining of the church.

Decrees:

1. As with the great god Hubal, the High Priest must have his right hand removed.

2. The sacrifice of children to Manāt is now forbidden

3. The High Priest shall be elected in an open gathering, unlike the Christians, whose priests are elected by the elites.

4. The African Kingdoms of Alodia and Adal, are allies, and will hopefully convert to the True Faith.

5. Christians and Zoroastrians are enemies of the True Faith, and shall not be tolerated.

6. All idols and relics not associated with our faith shall be removed from the Kabaa.

7. We shall not rest until the Gheyr-alatesalat in India are brought back into communion.

8. Temples may be presided by men or women

(the Book of Hubal continues for many more decrees, then heading into creation myths and proper rituals)

The Consul screamed and laughed as he burned these papers, then, demanding that all books that even
mention Arabia be burned. Of course this was forgotten when he was caught howling on the roof.

With the danger in the Brittish Isles, King Maurifi granted the Teutonic Order the Clydesdale to better control the Isles. Faustus Basilius placed Commander Scyld on there, a hard working Thuringian. It is hoped th

People were relieved at last when Publius passed away, giving control to his son, Publius II. Also was the fortunate passing of Publius II's son, granting the kingdom of Caledonia to proper, Roman hands at last.

After a while, the new Consul decided to take a pilgrimmage to Jerusalem. Unfortunately, the current Eastern Emperor's
gaze is set to restoring Alexander's Empire, and Macdeonia has fallen back into chaos. In Cilicia though,.has deriven out the robber bands in
Pontus. Little happened on the Pilgrimmage though, and Publius made a quick journey home.

But he returned home a changed man.

Immediately, the Consul demanded blood, and a grand tournament was held. Unfortunately, it was dominated by barbarian fighters, who easily defeated
the Romans.

Later, the mighty King of the Seven Provinces granted Carrik to the Teutons, for the Isles were only descending deeper into chaos. Rugiland has worked ceaselessly to carve out their new home in the Isles, and the Kents were driven out of Kentland Proper when the Armoricans invaded, claiming to be liberators of a the Briton people.

Even worse came when the Consul appointed his horse to a high government position, greatly reminiscent of Caligula. It seems Publius II is even more
insane than his father.

To distract the people from his madness, war was made against Cimrii along with the Holy Roman Emperor.

The war was difficult for the Romans, who were not used to fighting in Scandinavia, but, they managed, making considerable gains in the Jutish peninsula.

Of course the Consul had to celebrate such a victory.

In the East, the Sassanids finally managed to reverse their luck, when the regent-lord, Mehrab Naveedzade Safavid managed to lead the Sassanid armies in
defeating the Bamburids, leaving them to be consumed by the Gangeyids. There are already rumors that perhaps Mehrab should become the new
Shahanshah of the Empire.

After leading the Empire in many military victory, the great Emperor Bedwig Cloppenberg the Rough gathered all the lords of his realm. At swordpoint,
they gave up most of their rights and liberties, now acknowledging the Holy Roman Emperor, as an true ruler in the west. The Senate still does not
acknowledge the legitimacy of this "Empire", and does not intend to stop reclaiming Roman land.

Even more upsetting was the news that the King of the restored nation of Mauretania was reforged in an Arian mold. This was intolerable, and war
was declared. Unfortunately, as it was discovered too late, was that the kingdom war preparing to invade the Holy Roman Empire, and act that had drawn
thousands of Arians, whose kingdoms had since been destroyed, to flock to the banner of the devil-king in Africa.

His armied matched that of the Romans, even with the forces of the Order of Saint Leontius. This was combined with an Arian revolt on the Island
of Malta, and army no doubt in league with the Mauretanians. Even worse, the Afri Orthodoxis rose up in hopes of creating an independent Kingdom
of Africa.

Only a few days later, the Valentinians revolted under a man named Pompeius. The Senate held an emergency meeting, sending gold and treasure to the
Holy Roman Empire and Burgundians, to dissuade them from trying to reclaim lost lands. A small band of 500 men were assembled in Caithness,
as a last ditch if the Picts decide to get rebellious.

----------------Emergency Senate Meeting - May 4, 576 ------------------------------------------

Princeps Senatus, Publius Basilius: "Senators! I need ideas! plans! action!

Urban Prefect Amalfred of Sarno: Sir, I am heading out to command the main army in Bizerte, I will leave Praefectus Fabianus of Sidi Bou Zid to speak for me.

Praefectus Fabianus: Agreed.

Publius Basilius: I need my Marshal! Where is Urbanus?

Fabianus: Leading troops in Bizerte too, great consul.

Grandmaster Probus Basilius: As commander of Malta, I shall order my commander, Antoninus to hold off as long a possible. These Arian heretics lack ships,
so even if they butcher the entire Order, they'll be trapped their until we decide to engage them on our own terms. I will lead the forces against the Valentinians though,
along with the Berber Company.

Fabianus: How can we trust Josselin Randid? He is a zealous Valentinian! He may defect to the enemy.

Caesar Basilius: We simply cannot trust Heretics in this war! We should send him out of Italia, to fight the Liberation Rebels! They are Orthodox!

Liberius Basilius: Unfortunately that wouldn't work, Josselin is a berber too.

Publius: We don't have a choice, the Brothers Witta and Wod no longer fight for us, and the only company of similar strength is the Tuaregs, who are pagan!

Arsames Almazan: If I may, great Consul, but I would focus your attention on more prudent matters, I'm sure this Josselin is more zealous towards money than faith.
eVdKBO3.png

Fabianus: The Hepthalite is right, the Berber Company fought against the Valentinians in the uprising in Mauretania 60 years ago. I advise Arsames as a commander
in Bizerte, he is a master of nomadic combat, and former liberation fighter himself.

Arsames: very well...

Publius: I demand I see Trajan! He is orthodox! He is responsible! God demands he be arrested! GOD WILLS IT!

Fabianus: err, I would, but he is busy fighting for the Republic in Bizerte. But on military matters, we'll move the armyy from Bizerte to Constantine.
There we can grab a chokehold, preventing them from reaching Tunis. If the chose to march on Tangiers, then we'll grant Sabinianus of Charkia independence,
his 74 men cannot hold off an African horde.

Grandmaster Probus: Then we are in agreement?

Fabianus: Indeed!

Publius: Then the meeting is adjourned, long live the republic!

Arasmes Almazan: Long live Rahadhiraja Vonones!

----------------End of Emergency Senate Meeting - May 4, 576 ------------------------------------------

The Orthodox Thuringian Meinhard von Templin was elected commander of the defense of Malta, his knowledge of siege tactics and strategy made him perfect for the job.
Already, notable patrician of the Gens Marcii, Aemilian was murdered after the fall of Abu Hadi to the Liberation Rebels. The Mauretanians had to be defeated quickly, or else these rebels would attack the Romans from the behind.

The Valentinians and Romans met in the battle of Capua, with the Berber Company striking from the hills. Proconsul Leontios used a volley attack to scatter the flank of
Paulus, while Romanus, the designated heir of the Gens Marcia led a Roman shield-wall against the enemy. The Berber performed feints to distract the enemy from the center, and their flank was led by Geraud, the heir apparent to the Berber Company. In the battle, one of the enemy sub-flank leaders, Vespasian was killed. The Proconsuls volley tactics proved incredible, for soon the Left flank was sent into retreat.
p8ZI3cX.png

The shield wall shattered the center just in time to save the failing Berbers.

At the same time, the Mauretanians engaged the Romans in the battle of Bujima. All 3 Roman flanks went into a shielded, while the Mauretanians used
Feints and harasses in the desert sands. With the Valentinians shattered, the surviving Romans were quickly loaded onto a ship to relieve the Romans in
Mauretania. Unfortunately, Tournament champion Deocilunon MaqqCrup of Lochore was killed in battle.
TsAqkWw.png

Back in Mauretania, the Left flanks, led by Praefectus Urbanus Amalfred was shattered. The relief did not come quick enough. So, the Senate woefully surrendered 2800 gold to the Mauretanians for peace. The Romans feared now for the Holy Roman Empire, when the foul Mauretanians decide to Invade. The soldiers were then sent to at least to defeat the rebels in Africa. The Romans would allow the rebels to claim everything up to Tripolitana, then they would make their stand.
HKpYhb0.png

What the Romans were not expecting was the rebels to drop their sieges and head straight for them. This war had changed Publius, for he smiled less, and demanded more and harsher punishments for crimes. People feared to be the rebels when they were captured.
diVE04H.png

And so the Romans fought, and lost in the battle of Midoun, for the Order refused to fight followers of the Orthodox faith. What men who could be saved were, and Africa was abandoned.
xt8LAY2.png

The Valentinians were not showed mercy in the battle of San Angelo, the Maltans were also not spared, as Meinhard managed to hold of the rebels until help could arrive.

The armies regrouped, and the Tuareg company was hired. The Romans felt ready to attack the wretches in Africa on last time. They charged into battle, ready to fight to the end.

And so fell Africa.

Reactions:
It is no serious matter. Carthage shall burn again, along with anyone who thinks an empire based there can withstand Rome.

No, no, no, NO! This is not what I want to hear right now! Sacrifice North Africa to gain half of Northern Italy? At this rate, Rome will fall into other hands when Pannonia is reconquered! Please Enlil, get rid of the Dynasty of Madness and go sort things out.

Yeah, Publius the First was just crazy, but Publius II's madness was caused by the Post Traumatic Stress he recieved serving in the Scholae Palatinae. Meh it could be worse, Horatius Sempronius' son decided to remain in Greece while serving in the Excubitors.

Can't believe I missed this until now Enlil. You're having more success than I thought the old fat squabbles were capable. Bad luck with Africa though.

I can't wait for your mod to be finished :)

Dalmatia is really crazy at this time. Rex Ovida III is married to a Kwharezmian Zoroastrian, and their son and heir, Ovida IIII looks pretty foreign. Also he has some pretty bad stats, so we can only hope his brother, Prince Ovida will succeed as Rex Ovida V.
Currently the Kings list looks like this:

Julius Nepos,
succeded by his general
Rex Ovida the Cruel
succeeded by his son
Rex Ovida the Great
succeeded by his grandson
Rex Ovida the Mighty

(What happened to Ovida the Great's original heir, Ovida? Well, Ovida, decided one day he'd join the knights Hospitaller, but he died in the battle of Mecklenberg along with the Holy Roman Emperor Basin Cloppenburg against the Germanic rebel Sivert. The Rex Ovida had to kill his uncle, Ovida. For reasons unknown, Emperor Geata Cloppenburg the Schismatic is not on the emperor's list.

Is it just me or do you guys see some kind of pattern here?

Yeah, I have to say I am incredibly proud of a ruler ingame called Duke Caecilius Vacantrix. This Romano-Gaul is one of the original vassals of Syagrius, and the ruler of Cenabum, which now consists of one county. He retained his faith and culture, in the throes of holy war between Burgundy, Armorica, Septem Provincae, and Alamannia. Once there were two other Romano-Gallic lords in a similar position, but Adalbert Aggripatix II's family switched religion and culture, first becoming a Germanic Frank pagan, then becoming a Celtic Armorican when they took over. Then Maugannius Filicix remained Romano-Gallic, but converted to Celtic Paganism. So good job Caecilius!
