Settings and Game modes!

What is the difference between Exiled mode and Sandbox mode?
- Exiled mode is a story driven campaign with quests where you strife to defeat the United One (as well as some custom victory conditions). Sandbox mode is a free game where you decide what the victory conditions are, and the story mode has been cut.

Campaigns and Maps?
- Here you will be able to play content from the editor which is released on the 10th of April.

How do I play Multiplayer?
- You need a Paradox Account to play multiplayer. Please see the Paradox Account FAQ for more information: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?727868-Paradox-Accounts-FAQ-*UPDATED-20131015*

Victory Conditions
- Defeat the Great Mages: As the name states; defeat all Rival Mages in the game (you decide yourself how many they should be in the game)
- Defeat an Avatar: Once you reached as bad relations you can with a god an Avatar of said god will spawn somewhere and punish you. It will (most likely) not appear at once. But rest assured that if you have bottom rep with a god, this very powerful creature will appear sooner or later.
- Cast the Unity Spell: With this option you will be able to research the Unity Spell at some point in the game. Once researched it can be cast (long cast time), and once the cast is complete you win. Beware! Other mages may have counterspell available!
- Capture Holy Grounds: Throughout the worlds you can find Holy Grounds. Make sure all of these lay inside your boundaries to reach victory!
- Defeat the United One: In story mode, this is your main goal. Find your way to Ardania and defeat the United One!

Units and Perks

How does special resources work?
- By harvesting a special resource you can gain access to perks. Once the building is up you will be able to upgrade selected units for a cost. Each resource has a limited amount of charges (in difference from the first game) and units from the city where the resource is found is no longer automatically given that perk. (link to developer reply: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?763452-Perks-Question)

Support Units
- A unit can support neighboring units when they are attacked if they have the "support" perk. This means that when a unit in an adjacent hex is attacked, the support unit will help defend. The amount of other units that can be defended in one turn is stated in the tooltip (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?763469-battles-between-more-than-two-units)

Applying upgrades
- When a unit is eligible for an upgrade buttons will appear on the units portrait. An arrow pointing upwards for perks or a star if the next tier of said unit is available in your realm.

In this case these Minotaurs can be upgraded to Black Minotaurs as I now built the appropriate building for that. Note that the upkeep will change for the unit if you chose to upgrade it.
Other information on the screen: This unit has 55 hit points, 1 move left this turn, it is a melee unit, it does 22 damage of which most is melee and it is level 1 (XP bar next to the level)

Cities and City Building

What are the special cities?
- You have a city limit on you. If you go over the city limit, unrest will occur which may lead to gold loss, cities breaking free and turning into neutral cities and all other kinds of nasty stuff. To remedy this, you can turn your existing cities into special cities of various kinds. Do this by pressing the Special city button in your city view. Note that you can't transform cities you conquered for as long as they have the "plundered" trait, and you can not transform your capital. When turning it into a special city you will be presented with a choice, what kind of task this particular place should focus on. Liks this:

hL03BKD.png

You will not be able to produce units or build new buildings in special cities. It serves one purpose only!

How does population work?
- The big number next to a city name is the population (in thousands). The green indicates how much it grown on it's way to the next step. For each 1000 citizens, you are allowed to construct another building. The growth will slow down the bigger the city. If there is not enough food they will starve and lose population instead. You can boost population with certain buildings and spells.

What is the city cap?
- Your city cap is the amount of full cities you may have in your domain. This can be increased by spell research. Going over the cap will increase unrest in your cities.

What is unrest?
- Unrest is displayed in the top right corner of your screen by a status bar flanked by two faces. High unrest leads to lowered production and the possibility that a city may break free from your empire and go neutral.

How do I defend a city?
- A city will benefit from the terrain defense bonus (or penalty) of the tile on which it is placed. Bonus from terrain that is removed when you place the city does not help however (for example forests). When you place a unit inside a city it will share the damage afflicted, thus making the city also benefit from any defensive perks of the unit fortified in the city. In short: put a tough unit inside your cities to protect them!

How do I conquer enemy cities?
- You can attack a city in the same manner you attack another unit. When the cities HP is empty, any enemy unit moving into the city will capture it. A city also have an attack of it's own for as long as it has HP left. A ranged will, on the attack that takes away the last HP from a city, not capture it unless another unit already "killed" it. You also can't capture a city while there are enemy units placed inside it.

Spells and Spellbook!

How do I use the glyphs that I loot?
- The glyphs will appear in your spell book. You apply these to specific spells, giving the the extra perks of said stone. Each spell has an individual amount of free slots for these. They are the circles you can see under each spell.

To apply a glyph, simply click on the glyph and then click in the empty socket where you want to put it. Note that you can not take the gem back! You can destroy a glyph to replace it with another. But the old one will be lost for good.

Diplomacy

When an enemy Great Mage appears, why can't I negotiate?
- There is a 3 turn "grace period" before you can send any offers to another Great Mage. This also works as a refreshed cooldown if you send/receive an offer that is refused. You can then not negotiate for another 3 turns.

Resources

The game has 4 resources:

- Gold: This mainly pays for units and heroes.

- Food: Food is mainly paid for your armies (som races does not utilize food, like undead. They use mana instead). The food is global so you theoretically grow the food for your entire realm in one city. Individual food production does not affect population growth unless you go negative (globally) in which case your cities will stop growing and might even start to decline while unrest increase. Surplus in food will convert to gold instead. Please note that more food does not make your cities grow faster!

- Mana: Used to cast your spells and for upkeep of magical and undead units.

- Research: The more you have of this resource, the faster your research will progress.

Going negative in any resource will give you income penalties in the other resource types as well. Mousing over a unit or building, either built or in the construction menu, should clearly state if it increase or cost a certain resource in upkeep.
