So I decided to reinstall this game and play it again in light of the recently announced Hearts of Iron IV.
I was playing as Canada and preparing an epic invasion of Italy with a massive amphibious invasion, paratroopers and everything, and then I realised something.
I completely forgot how to use paratroopers! I'm pretty I've done it before in DH and I can't seem to find any tech requirements I might be missing, but when I load em' up on the planes and even wait a while, I just don't have the option to do a drop.

What am I forgetting?

This is an explanation from Limith and I think it pretty much covers everything:

Paratroopers need to be at full org
TRA needs to be at full org
You need to research Airborne Assault for both the planes and the divisions.
Weather needs to be clear (not bad)
Needs to be in range of your transports
You can only launch attacks with it iirc, not shuttle troops around. You can just move the air units around to shuttle them iirc. I haven't used paras in ages, I usually disband them, along with TRA planes. Waste of a tech slot to keep up, waste of IC to upgrade the planes as well. Usually the starting range is terrible, and airports aren't always convenient. Naval transports at least have a tech that increases range. It's much cheaper and easier to strategic bomb UK into oblivion and then send 6xArmor units (sneak move to undefended scotland beaches while under Naval bomber air cover and using your starting fleet as fodder to tie up the british fleet in the English Channel, basically intentionally buy time with your fleet to let the covert transports land) to capture territory after their units starve to death.

And here's the actual thread:

I right, thanks. I should be able to figure it out now.
