I just purchased a copy of Sword of the Stars II and have seen multiple times that the game can be run, like many other paradox games, without steam running in the background.

I have copied the game folder out of the steam directory, and have attempted to start the game, but it insists on starting steam. Is there any way of stopping it from doing this, or do I have to have steam running to play the game? I am on patch 2.0.25005 if that helps.

Edit: this may want to be moved to the tech help sub-forum.

Usually to start PDX games without Steam, you go to the Steam folder -> Steamapps -> Common -> Game Folder and start an .exe from there. I'm unsure if extra measures is required for SotSII

TBH, I don't think you want those old builds... But if you don't know of this games history, I shalt not bring it to life :)

Short answer. Sorry, no! Not from us at least.

It should run with Steam in offline mode, but I believe as a result of the MP client changes it does require steam running in some form.
